He was a Chinese communist revolutionary and the founding father of the People's Republic of China (PRC) which was established in 1949 and controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He was also known as Chairman Mao and ruled as the chairman of the CCP from 1949 until his death in 1976. He was strongly influenced by the writings of Karl Marx and Wladimir Iljitsch Lenin. Soon, he adopted Marxism-Leninism and his political policies, military strategies, and theories are widely known as Maoism. He was able to solidify his control through the "Campaign to Suppress Counterrevolutionaries", the "Chinese Land Reform" against landlords, the "Three-anti and Five-anti Campaigns", and through a psychological victory in the Korean War. With his launch of the "Great Leap Forward", he aimed to rapidly transform the agrarian Chinese economy to industrial. However, this led to the deadliest famine in history between 1958 and 1962. In 1966, he initiated the "Cultural Revolution" with which he wanted to remove "counter-revolutionary" elements in Chinese society. This revolution lasted ten years and was marked by violent class struggle, a widespread destruction of cultural artifacts, and a great elevation of Mao's cult of personality. Mao is blamed for a total of up to 40 to 80 million deaths throughout his term. The expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia after World War II was part of a series of evacuations and deportations of Germans from Central and Eastern Europe. In the months following the end of the war, "wild" expulsions happened from May until August 1945. Roughly 1.6 million ethnic Germans were deported to the American zone (West Germany), and an estimated 800,000 were deported to the Soviet zone (East Germany). The expulsions ended in 1948, but not all Germans were expelled. This is why you see dozens if not hundreds of Wehrmacht vehicles, equipment and also refugees from the East. As is known, the Vogtland did not remain in the American zone, but came to the SBZ/GDR, like all of Saxony.\nMost if not all of the footage is not shot in Czechoslovakia or even Sudentenland, but in Tannenbergsthal and Jägersgrün in Vogtland/Saxony. Tannenbergsthal would soon become part of the soviet zone and later of the GDR.\nThe deep forest surrounding Jägersgrün and Rautenkranz was also home to some alleged Werwolf activity around the time of the total surrender, albeit some argue, that it was just Nazi-lumberjacks and their hunting rifles. Although the Nuremberg Flying School was relocated with the bombing raids in 1943, the Fuerth Flying School was already being used again for flight exercises by the end of December 1943. \nThree of the most important generals of this battle have gathered here. George S. Patton, Omar Bradley and Bernard Montgomery. Omar Bradley, at this point in time, was a Lieutenant General, as indicated by the 3 stars on his uniform. However, in 1950 he would be promoted to the rank of General of the Army, a 5 star general, which is a rank only 4 other American generals achieved before him. Bernard Montgomery held the title of a 5 star general as well, but in the British Army there already had been more than a hundred men who have been granted this title. George S. Patton was a Lieutenant General as well, just like Bradley, and he also did get a promotion, but only to a 4 star general.

It is the ?Victory in Europe Day? or V-E Day for short. This day marks the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany, bringing an end to the long and brutal war in Europe. Other countries, for example Russia, Serbia or Israel, celebrate on the 9th of May.
\nAfter Hitler committed suicide on the 30th of April in his Führerbunker, Grand Admiral Karl Dönitz became Hitlers successor as the head of state, according to his last will and testament. Karl Dönitz first signed an early version of the ?German Instrument of Surrender? on the 7th of May, and a definitive version was later signed in Berlin on the 8th of May, by the representatives of the ?Oberkommando der Wehrmacht? and the allied forces, as well as the High Command of the Soviet Red Army.
\nHarry Truman, here seen standing in the middle, the newly elected president of the United States held speeches to further inform his citizens about the end of the war in Europe.
\nThis shot was taken on the Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington D.C. and in the background, you can see the United States Capitol or Capitol Building.
\nAfter the end of the war in Europe, the Allied Forces could concentrate on Japan, which was the last remaining enemy in this war. The first call for unconditional surrender was rejected by the Japanese Government, as they believed more favorable surrender terms would be achievable. In an attempt to finally end WW2, Truman ordered, that the two atomic bombs ?Little Boy? and ?Fat Man? should be dropped on the cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On the 15th of August the Japanese finally surrendered, marking this day as the official ?Victory over Japan Day? in the UK. The signing of the surrender document then happened on the 2nd of August, officially ending WW2 and marking this day as the V-J Day in the US.
