····· 103611986

Cactus in Southern Tigray

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Throughout history human migrations have been accompanied by the movement of plant and animal population from one region to another. This is especially true to cactus because Prickly pear cactus are the most widely spread out of their original ranges. The cactus pear (Opuntia ficus indica) is expanding throughout Southern Tigray, Northern Ethiopia. Its current status, use, potentials and threats were investigated at Tabia Kara Adi-shabo of Raya Azebo Wereda, using socio-economic survey and environmental analysis. Knowledge and perception of farmers on the cactus pear was gathered through use of questionnaires and discussions with elders. The study showed that, although the fertile Raya plain get more and more infested with cactus, no coordinated controlling attempt has so far been made. It is concluded that the expansion of the cactus pear needs to be checked. Nevertheless, it should be noted, that in the absence of reliable irrigation schemes to use the area, and under prevailing condition of insufficient and unreliable rain and recurrent drought, the benefit of cactus pear as food for humans and feed for livestock are tied to survival. ····· 10361100017

The principles to regionalise the Ordovician confacies and tectonic structures in the East Baltic area are defined. The three confacies belts and four tectonics structures have been distinguished in the East Baltic Ordovician Basin. The 44 graptolites, including 19 dendroid and 25 graptoloid species and subspecies, have been palaeontologically investigated. The nematophorous genus of Rhabdinopora by E. Eichwald (1855) is rehabilitated. A new subgenus Rhabdinopora (Dictyograptus) is investigated. The zonal graptolites scale is improved. The stratigraphy of the East Baltic Ordovician basin is based on the research done on graptolite, conodont and ostracod zones, as well the other fauna groups based on lithostratigraphical and ecoctratigraphical studies. ····· 10361115809

Tsunami is a catastrophic event caused severe damage to the south and southeast countries with huge population loss of more than 3 lakh people. Micropaleontology is a fascinating discipline, particularly Foraminifera and Ostrcoda are very vital by which we can identify the paleotsunami sediments. The data base generated from the present study of 2004 tsunami sediments using these microfauna will be a very useful tool and proxy to record the paleotsunami events. ····· 10361133526

Bolivinitids of the Niger Delta, Nigeria

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Reyment (1959) studied borehole samples from West Africa that yielded the genus Bolivina amongst others, proposing seven new species. His study confirmed that the bolivinids were useful stratigraphical markers. He assigned an overall age range of Maastrichtian to Eocene for the genus. Petters (1982) presented a preliminary documentation of the Bolivinitidae of the Niger Delta basin, and identified 15 species. He proposed an Altistoma scalaris Zone for the mid - late Oligocene to Early Miocene interval. He did not establish the precise limits between Bolivina and Brizalina. In a regional analysis of the Cenozoic Bolivinitidae from west coastal African basins (Cote d` Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Gabon, Congo, Angola), Brun et al. (1984) identified 35 species of Bolivina and Brizalina. Five morphological groups were identified that characterized different biotopes from shelf to bathyal. They noted that variations within the groups tended to have evolutionary significance. TARGET GROUPS:This work will be useful to biostratigraphers working in the oil industry, commercial micropaleontological laboratory, Paleontological Institutes and Universities. ····· 10361114697

Littoral Foraminiferal Fauna of the Surface Sediments

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Littoral sands constitute excellent ancient reservoirs and are thus oil exploration targets in the oil field. Investigation of modern littoral environments sands and microfaunas is essential to understand such ancient reservoirs. Very little attention has hitherto been paid to the investigation of the littoral environments. This work will fill this gap and enhance oil exploration activities in Nigeria and other parts of the world. This work was aimed at determining the distribution, composition, diversity pattern, and defining the biotopes/biofacies of foraminiferal fauna. Eighty-three foraminiferal species were recorded belonging to sub-orders Rotaliina, Miliolina and Textulariina. Rotaliina dominated the inner and middle continental assemblages. Textulariina and Miliolina occur in the inner continental shelf as rare species. There is increase in Planktic/Benthic ratio of the foraminiferal species from the shoreline to the middle shelf in the study area. The diversity indices generally increase away from the shore. This work will be of use to palaeontologist, geologist in the oil industries and also serve as a guide for final year student in the universities and colleges. ····· 10361133193

Crocodile Predation and Hominin Evolution

····· lezzter Preis 71.10€ ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Over the last five decades, paleoanthropologists have attempted to reconstruct the environmental context of a plethora of stone artifact and vertebrate assemblages at Olduvai Gorge. This site, located in northern Tanzania, was made famous by Drs. Louis and Mary Leakey, through discoveries of important Plio-Pleistocene hominin fossils. Traditionally, these paleoanthropological occurrences were thought to represent early hominin living floors (campsites). However, this view has been questioned because these assemblages occurred near paleo-wetland settings. Theoretically, wetland settings, which afforded hominins resources, also posed predation risk, mainly from large crocodiles. This book investigates the ecological and taphonomic contexts of crocodiles and provides archaeological predictions for Oldowan hominin land use on a basin-wide scale. The analysis of vertebrate and hominin fossils indicates that many of the Oldowan assemblages were situated near settings occupied by crocodiles. This interdisciplinary work integrates neotaphonomy, landscape archaeology and paleoecology in paleoanthropological research. ····· 1036125080

Monsoon variability record from the Indian ocean

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The benthic foraminiferal population from Recent sediments of the Indian Ocean can be divided into two faunal provinces Province A and B, based on their relation with the water mass properties. Province A occupies northwestern Indian Ocean (northwestern Arabian Sea)and is dominated by foraminifera characteristic of low oxygen and high organic food flux. Province B covers southern, southeastern and eastern parts of the Indian Ocean and suggests well-oxygenated, cold deep water with low (oligotrophic) and pulsed food supply. Benthic foraminiferal diversity at Hole 716A is low during intervals of sustained flux of organic carbon with low oxygen levels (during intervals of intense SW monsoon) and vice versa. Higher populations of planktic foraminifer Globigerina bulloides (a well known SW monsoon proxy) are observed during intervals of intense SW monsoon. The surface and deep water conditions at Hole 716A are coupled probably due to the shallow water depth (533 m) of this hole. Spectral analysis show prominent peaks around 40, 30, 24, 20, 6, 1, 0.8 and 0.7 Kyr, thus signifying suborbital and orbital (precession-linked) forcing of the summer monsoon. ····· 10361101459

TAXONOMY, DISTRIBUTION OF EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN BENTHIC FORAMINIFERA

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The present study aims to investigate the foraminiferal assemblages of the recent samples of the Gulf of skenderun in terms of abundance and diversity, to determine their bathymetrical and the geographical distributions. In this manner, foraminiferal fauna of the 34 grab samples collected from the infralittoral to lower circalittoral zone of the Gulf of skenderun has been taxonomically identified and quantitatively analyzed. Based on the quantitative data, the benthic foraminiferal diversity and the abundance of species have been determined for each sample. The geographical and bathymetrical distributions of the relative abundances of the dominant species have been mapped. These distribution patterns of benthic foraminifers have been compared with the distribution patterns from the Aegean Sea, Marmara Sea, western Mediterranean, other parts of the eastern Mediterranean and Red Sea. In this study, the applied statistical analyses reveal that depth is not one of the main controlling factors of the distribution of the assemblages. Indeed, no correlation was recognized between the diversity of the species and the corresponding depth of the samples. ····· 10361102561

····· 10361116408
