Two of the Covid-19 cases were identified as being caused by the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the virus. Tianjin is about 112km (70 miles) from Beijing, which is set to host the Winter Olympics in February. City officials said they have secured a stable supply of food and daily necessities, following a national directive to safeguard essential goods supplies ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday and Winter Games.
