The skeleton measures 10 metres (33ft) long and its skull alone weighs more than 1 tonne (2,204lbs). The remains are considered the largest and most complete of an ichthyosaur ever unearthed in the UK. The prehistoric reptile is informally known as a ?sea dragon? because of its large eyes and teeth. The discovery was made in February 2021 during routine draining of a lagoon island at the reservoir in the East Midlands.
