Yesim, a flower seller, said. \n\nKokina is composed of red berries hand-tied to green thorns. Greeks in Istanbul have started the tradition of using kokina in the holiday season decorations - the word means 'red' in Greek.\n\n---\n\nSOT, Yesim, Flower seller (Turkish): "These (Kokina flowers) are for the new year. These are lucky, their wishes are granted. (If people buy Kokina) They will buy a house, make up with lovers, whatever they wish comes true."\n\nSOT, Yasemin, Flower seller (Turkish): "Every buyer says that I bought it last year, I wanted a house, it became my house. The other one says I wanted a car, they bought a car. One says I was separated from my husband, I reconciled. It is a flower that brings luck, but everyone says so."\n\nSOT, Kubra Derin, Istanbul resident (Turkish): "Kokina is believed to bring good luck on new year's eve, in new year. I usually get Kokina for new year's eve. Now I'm going to visit a friend and I wanted to buy as a gift."\n\nSOT, Yasemin, Flower seller (Turkish): "First we collect the red berries. Our hands are injured when picking from thorny trees. We spend one month to collect these. Then for a second month, we collect these (green leaves) from another place."\n\nSOT, Yasemin, Flower seller (Turkish): "After collecting them, we bring them home. We spend at least ten thousands lira for expenses of these, transportation and so on. After bringing home, we cut these, then you tie up the berries and the leaves to each other one by one. It is a very difficult job."\n\n#Turkey #Istanbul #RomaFlowerVendors\n\n Video ID: 20211224-062\n\n Video on Demand: https://ruptly.tv/videos/20211224-062\n Contact: cd@ruptly.tv \n\n Twitter: http://twitter.com/Ruptly\n Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Ruptly
