The course of psychological dissociation was examined in a three-year follow-up study. Dissociation was measured with the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES) and its subscale for pathological dissociation, the Dissociative Experiences Scale Taxon (DES-T), and with the Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ-20). Participants in the study (n = 3004) were derived from a random sample of general population adults (25-64 years old) in eastern Finland. The data were gathered by postal questionnaires in 1998, 1999 and 2001. The response rate was 68% at baseline, and 75% of the baseline respondents returned the questionnaire on three-year follow-up in 2001. ····· 10361147319

The experiences of individuals, with and without a diagnosis of AS, will be compared and contrasted. The levels of evidence for each cognitive theory of AS will be explored. These cognitive theories are: Theory of Mind (ToM) Weak Central Coherence theory (WCC) Executive Functioning Theory (EF) and Enhanced Perceptual Functioning Theory (EPF). It is argued in this thesis, via a process of falsification (for example, all swans are white is proven to be false when we find a black swan) that AS is a particular cognitive difference associated with the use of single attention. Whereas typical individuals have a brain configuration allowing the use of divided attention and associated connectivity with the sensory system allowing a diverse interest system, autistic individuals use single attention with less connectivity to a sensory system leading to less related multiple interests. ····· 10361147301

Even here, consideration of pathological aspects of the disorder proves useful. One, it enables the surgeon to understand the mechanism of production of symptoms and signs of the disorder. Second and more important, it enables the surgeon to understand physiological derangements that may result from surgery. This knowledge would help the surgeon in long-term postoperative management of the patient. Perusal of this book is expected to result in clearer thinking and sound clinical care of the surgical patients. The study showed that both hypertensives and controls had mean lipid and lipoprotein levels at the lower level of the generally accepted cut-off point. Hypertensives also had higher Body Mass Index Waist to Hip Ratio Total Cholesterol (TC) and Triglyceride (TG) than the controls. These findings are to assist health practitioners especially primary care physicians, the first point of call for most hypertensive patients whose conditions are often diagnosed during routine clinical contact for other conditions especially in a low resource country like Nigeria. It is not clear, what is the effect of pre-exercise rehydration to central fatigue under conditions of hyperthermia. The main purpose of the study was to establish the impact of hyperthermia and dehydration on the skeletal muscle fatigue of men and women both actively engaged and not engaged in sports when performing physical exercises of high intensity. I also aimed to analyze the impact of pre-exercise rehydration on central fatigue under the conditions of hyperthermia performing isometric exercises of maximum intensity. The most important results from experimental-clinical research, obtained from my doctoral dissertation, are described and analyzed in this book. However, there is a shortage of methodological guidance to adjust cost-effectiveness results from one to another country setting. This research is to compare the cost-effectiveness of a new hospital-based health technology of a low-middle-income country with a high-income country, to find the factors which systematically determine the difference in cost-effectiveness between high- and low-middle-income countries. A combination of primary data methods from population-based registration, administration, hospital-based, patient level data and secondary data methods from academic and grey literature for the research in multiple fields of demography, epidemiology, clinical practice, patient characteristics, health services and health finance was all applied in this research to find the answer for the hypothesis of the cost-effectiveness of a new health technology in low-middle income countries is lower than that of high-income countries. ····· 10361147053

It is a pathological condition in which the oxygen carrying capacity of red blood cells is insufficient to meet the body s needs. Nutritional anemia is the most important cause of maternal anemia. Anemia during pregnancy has been reported to increase the risk of small-for-gestational-age birth and low birth weight infants. Strong evidence also exists for an association between maternal anemia and preterm birth and premature rupture of membranes. Moreover, women who suffer from anemia during pregnancy are more liable to have heavy bleeding at the time of birth. Severe anemia may weaken uterine muscle, contributing to postpartum hemorrhage and subsequent maternal mortality. Appropriate preconception evaluation and antenatal follow up, together with iron supplementation programs should be implemented to minimize the prevalence of anemia and its adverse maternal and fetal effects. ····· 10361146597

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray The frequency of platelet-specific antibodies in multitransfused patients and their implication in platelet transfusion refractoriness has been a matter of controversy for years. The main reasons are the difficulties encountered in differentiating between HLA- and platelet-specific antibodies and, within platelet-specific antibodies, between auto- or alloantibodies, using the available platelet antiglobulin test. In the recent years, capture assays were developed, using immobilized platelet membrane glycoprotein (GP) carrying the antigens under investigation to avoid using whole platelets. These assays overcome the difficulties in differentiating platelet-reactive antibody mixtures and allow determination of antibody specificity. For the group of highly HLA-immunized patients in need for HLA-matched single donor platelets, however, there are only as many as 25% will have additional platelet-specific alloantibodies. These platelet-specific alloantibodies will prohibit satisfactory transfusion results if HLA-matched but HPA-incompatible platelets are transfused. ····· 10361146501

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)is an X-linked recessive disorder that affects 1:3500 males and is caused by mutation in the dystrophin gene which is responsible for the maintenance of mechanical stability at the muscle cell membrane. Symptoms are seldom noted until the child is between 2-5 years old. The disease affects male only and is inherited in the female line. The major characteristics of the disease are muscle wasting, weakness and concurrent hypertrophy. Usually between the age of 8 to 12, severe contractures and muscle weakness are apparant and most children are unable to ambulate. There has been a debate for many years on whether muscular training is beneficial or harmful for patients with myopathic disorders. So we have tried to evaluate the effect of a well-designed isokinetic rehabilitation program on patients with DMD and clarify whether muscle strength training exercises cause improvement or further deterioration in those patients. ····· 10361146462

Immunisation is an important component of preventive health care intervention and its cost-effectiveness analyses are useful in prioritising the choices. This book describes economic evaluation of two immunisation interventions in Australia: influenza and hepatitis B. We have analysed cost-effectiveness of reducing universal influenza vaccination age threshold to 50 from the current 65 using a decision tree model and cost-effectiveness of various hepatitis B infant vaccination strategies using a micro-simulation model. Here we describe the strength of the evidence to reduce universal influenza vaccination age threshold.
