The tool used is Simscape, an object oriented tool which supports the engineer in analysing systems behaviour by representing physical systems in virtual models. The model is a development of a complex non-real time model built in LMS Amesim. A process of simplification and validation in order to reach high reliability, stability and real-time simulation capabilities has been applied. The process starts with the validation of single components and ends with the modelling of the whole system. Particular attention and time have been spent on the creation and the validation of the servovalves, which were designed from very complex Amesim component models only available as non accessible `black-boxes`. The purpose of the work is to develop a model running with the specified time-characteristic in order to be implemented in a test platform, where the whole Landing Gear system can be tested. The book is suitable for engineers who are involved in the development of real-time systems or in working out the inside structure of non-accessible models. ····· 10361134276

Supply chains are complex and subject to variables of forecast, supply, process, and transportation which can lead to problems such as the bull whip effect, product lateness, damaged goods and stock outs. A key issue is how to monitor and control performance across the chain and meet customer s needs. In this work an order fulfillment model using Design for six sigma, which focuses on customer requirements from design onset and fuzzy logic, which accounts for the variable supply chain environment, is presented. By applying the model in a case study, a representation of detailed activities of order fulfillment processes is demonstrated providing key internal and external performance indicators. A theoretical transfer function for predicting the performance of the perfect order incorporating fuzzy set theory provides a way of monitoring supply chain performance. This is an effective way to monitor and control order fulfillment variables, optimise the order fulfillment process, meet customer requirements and make incremental step towards supply chain integration. ····· 10361134200

Analysis of the data on chilled cast iron show that the cooling rate has a marked effect on eutectic cell size, dendrite spacing and grain size. It is observed that, the number of eutectic cells as an index of graphite nucleation and the effect of these on structure and properties, since the eutectic cells are developed on the graphite nuclei during solidification. The review suggest that some of the graphite in the structure of cast iron form more readily as a result of the decomposition of carbides during and after solidification process rather than being an outcome of the direct growth of the graphite form the liquid. It was found that microstructure, DAS, ECC and GS are highly dependent on the location of the casting from where the test samples were taken (chill end) and also on the chilling rate. ····· 10361133902

The act of simulating something first requires that a model be developed this model represents the key characteristics, behaviors and functions of the selected physical or abstract system or process. The model represents the system itself, whereas the simulation represents the operation of the system over time. Simulation is used in many contexts, such as simulation of technology for performance optimization, safety engineering, testing, training, education, and video games. Often, computer experiments are used to study simulation models. Simulation is also used with scientific modeling of natural systems or human systems to gain insight into their functioning, as in economics. Simulation can be used to show the eventual real effects of alternative conditions and courses of action. Simulation is also used when the real system cannot be engaged, because it may not be accessible, or it may be dangerous or unacceptable to engage, or it is being designed but not yet built, or it may simply not exist. ····· 10361133897

Although the process is capable of achieving high throughputs, current machine tool controllers are not equipped with appropriate trajectory functions that can take full advantage of the achievable laser drilling speeds. While the problem of contour following has received previous attention in time-optimal trajectory generation literature, on-the-fly laser drilling presents different technological requirements, needing a different kind of trajectory optimization solution, which has not been studied prior to this book. Trajectories for individual hole clusters are optimized by minimizing the integral square of the 4th time derivative, and by adjusting the velocity and acceleration conditions at the hole locations to enable the maximum time compression (i.e., highest laser pulsing frequency). Axis constraints are also considered. Individually optimized clusters are stitched together using time-optimal segments with nonzero velocity boundary conditions. ····· 10361133563

It is critical, but often difficult, to select applicable cutting conditions to achieve high productivity while maintaining high quality of parts. It is essential to optimize the feedrate to improve the machining efficiency. Conservative constant feedrate values have been mostly used up to now because of lack of physical models and optimization tools. Commonly used CAM programs are based on the geometric and volumetric analysis, but they do not concern the physics of the free-form machining process. The new approach introduced in this book is based on the mechanics of the process. The cutting force based models in which feedrate is set to values which keep either average or instantaneous machining forces to prescribed values. In this book, both feedrate scheduling strategies are compared theoretically and experimentally for ball-end milling of free-form surfaces. A new mathematical model is also introduced for predicting the form errors which affect the surface quality and productivity in free form machining with ball-end milling. ····· 10361133531

These subjects are explained with two practical application case studies. One is a spatial motion simulator, and the other is an inertially stabilized system (ISS) for tracking radar. Both two applications have many similar and opposite aspects in the point of kinematics, dynamics, and control. For kinematics, motion simulator is a parallel kinematic structure and a non real time problem, but the ISS is a serial and requires a real time computation to compensate the rigid body base motion. The dynamics of motion simulator is nonlinear, and it is derived by Lagrangian equation. But flexible dynamics of ISS can be approximated by Newtonian mechanics. In the control of motion simulator, a robust PID controller is designed, and tuning law and the performance limitations are described. The robust controller of ISS is used to cope with the flexibility uncertainty and to stabilize the line of sight of radar antenna. In addition, performance enhancement method is presented by using disturbance observers to compensate the actuator nonlinearities. ····· 10361133403

Hoop, Axial and Radial stress are calculated for the stiffened panel subjected to internal pressure. Secondly, crack growth characteristics of the integrally stiffened panel and conventional stiffened panel based on fracture mechanics and FE analysis are investigated. A fourteen-stringer stiffened panel is analyzed for a central skin crack propagating towards the adjacent stringers. Stress intensity factors and fatigue crack propagation rates of both types of the stiffened panels are then compared. The analyses result show that integral stiffening cause higher stress intensity factor than conventional stiffened panel as the crack tip passes through the stringer and the integral stiffened panel has less damage tolerance capability than the riveted stiffened panel. Finally, the FE analysis of repaired integrally stiffened aluminum alloy panel with a circumferential crack has performed in ANSYS. As part of normal operating activities they are repeatedly visited by heavy vessels. This makes the rig vulnerable to collisions from these vessels. Estimating the possible ship collision damage is important in the safety and integrity assessment of a platform and also for its repair and maintenance. This book deals with the structural behaviour of tubular members of offshore structures subjected to ship collision. It covers both quasi-static and dynamic impact loadings and considers different approaches such as closed form analytical solutions. A relatively sophisticated dynamic experimental modelling and numerical simulation of the impact have also been employed to address the problem. The interaction of the existing axial load in the tubular member and the lateral impact has been thoroughly reviewed. Response of large-scale tubular frames to lateral impacts and the phenomenon of `dynamic shakedown and response adaptation` have also been addressed. Excessive floor vibration has become a great problem as new rhythmic activities, such as aerobics, generators, air conditioners and long-span floor structures have become more common. The current push towards stronger concrete materials and the use of prestressing results in increasing fineness and dynamism of long-span concrete floors in buildings. Although concrete floors have a good vibration serviceability track record, this trend may lead to an increasing number of floors fails from vibration serviceability. There is a current trend towards even more slender concrete floor structures, which results in more frequent problems with their vibration serviceability. Predictive methods for vibration serviceability must consider not only the structures themselves, but also the non-structural elements which are attached to them, as these may have a significant effect on the dynamic characteristics of the floor structural system. ····· 10361132922· 1 · ::::: · 13 ·· 14 ·· 15 ·· 16 ·· 17 ·· 18 ·· 19 · ::::: · 83 ·
