Research suggests that they are vulnerable to negative stress-related effects, including burnout. We provide evidence to show that life satisfaction, positive affect and negative affect need to be considered to fully understand the complex construct of well-being. This book also reports on an experimental intervention based on the transactional model of stress and coping. The group that implemented the strategies learned in the workshop significantly reduced their negative affect and dysfunctional attitudes. Personality traits did not factor into the relationships among the variables. Counsellors need to pay more attention to assisting participants with enhancing and maintaining post-training effects. ····· 10361132612

The main aim of parenting is to control the behaviour of the child, but as the child matures the approach is more of monitoring and supervision rather than control. The aim of this study is to establish the prevalence of parental psychological control during the phase of emerging adulthood and this will be associated with the anti-social behaviour of emerging adults. A quantitative methodological approach was used to conduct the study. A sample of 382 participants aged 18 to 25 years participated in the study. The Parental Psychological Control (Barber, 1996) and the Anti-Social Behaviour (Achenbach and Edelbrock, 1987) questionnaires were used to collect the data. Furthermore, antisocial behaviour is also positively predicted by both mother and father psychological control, with mothers being significantly more psychologically controlling than fathers. When comparing males and females, males engaged significantly more in antisocial activities than females males also found fathers to be more psychologically controlling. ····· 10361132545

Of the various agents identified as having provided non-supportive reactions, three categories of non-supportive confidants emerged: family members, professional persons, and community members. Hierarchical cluster analysis of disclosure variables identified two broad homogenous clusters of cases of non-supportive disclosure ( Incestuous Abuse Disclosed Within the Family , and Extra-familial Abuse Disclosed Outside of the Family ). Binary logistic regression analysis indicated that cluster membership was meaningfully predicted by the three measure of consanguinity included in the analysis, but not significantly related to other abuse related variables. The implications of the findings for secondary prevention and for future research are discussed in detail in this article. ····· 10361132351

Poorly managed conflict is often a source of attrition. This study examines the relationship between personality, conflict styles, and membership duration of people who attend or have attended churches (primarily Protestant churches), the most common form of voluntary association in America. Most of the Big 5 personality traits significantly predict conflict styles and/or membership duration. For example, people who are extraverted, agreeable, and conscientious are more likely to use a collaborative conflict style than those who are not. People who are high in both agreeableness and conscientiousness are less likely to quit an organization when conflict arises than those who are medium to low in either of these traits. The relationships between conflict styles and membership duration vary according to gender. For example, men who often use a competitive conflict style are more likely to stay in an organization than are women who tend to use this style. ····· 10361132286

This, combined with the social-support funding demands of an ageing population, makes the subject of retirement savings one of crucial importance to most countries worldwide. An obvious approach to improving the quality of life in retirement and to alleviating the forecast social-support burden is to induce people to save in a more effective manner. However, it is generally regarded that a good deal needs to be done to motivate people to save more and to invest more efficiently for their retirement needs. Using the framework of the theory of planned behaviour, the present research explored an extended range of psychological determinants in order to explain retirement savings behaviours within an Australian context and to test the sufficiency of the standard theoretical model for this purpose. The intent of the research was to identify the relative importance of key behavioural determinants and to relate these to intervention possibilities applied to the individual, the workplace and the general public. ····· 10361132227

In this book, we describe a progressive five-stage research project conducted to address this issue, beginning with the formulation of a novel multidimensional integrative model of body image and the subsequent development and validation of a quantitative scale to assess body image satisfaction in older adulthood. The newly developed Body Image Scale for Older Adults (BIS-OA) provides a tool to further the understanding of older adults body image and its relationship with other variables related to one s quality of life. This, in turn, can inform policy-makers and professionals working with older adults to assist in the formulation of preventative as well as therapeutic interventions to help older adults develop a positive body image and enhance their quality of life. ····· 10361132094

Body image and self-esteem have been proposed as constructs that have an effect on adolescents` participation in reckless behavior. Self-esteem, however, has been garnering criticism in recent years for promoting narcissism and downward social comparison with others. Self-compassion is an alternative to self- esteem that focuses on accepting oneself and having feelings of common humanity. This report examines the literature to build a foundation for studies that would measure reckless behavior in adolescents, and look at the effects of self-compassion, self- esteem, and body image. ····· 10361119778

They accounted for 47% of a representative sample of this population. Pure dual disorder (SUD+MMD without APD) differed from triple disorder, and may not increase the risk of homicide more than MMD alone. Prevention of severe violence among persons with schizophrenia necessitates that effective therapies should be developed for persons with triple disorder. It was possible to estimate quantitatively the risk for becoming violent offender among a nationally comprehensive population of children and parents of homicide recidivists. An increased risk of crime compared to controls was transmitted across three generations, but violent crime only from homicide recidivists to their children. Support for families of violent offenders since early pregnancy with e.g. substance abuse treatments, contact persons and safe environments, may improve the life of several generations. ····· 10361119706

Mediating factors such as whether the child developed post traumatic stress disorder, dysfunctional attitudes, other intervening life-events, and social support are also considered. Women whose children had been involved in the disaster presented with more symptomatology and social adjustment problems than the women who had suffered no major negative life event. However, they presented with less problems than the widows. This effect was greater in the subgroup whose children had developed traumatic stress disorder after the disaster. The results also showed that dysfunctional attitudes, previous psychopathology and intervening life-events may increase the risk of psychological and social adjustment problems. Risk appears to be decreased if the child does not develop PTSD and social support is present. The final chapter summarises the results of the study and discusses possible implications for future research. ····· 10361119518

In his book, Kelvin Barichievy examines some of the major changes confronting municipalities, in particular, his research focuses on participatory governance, and the impact the democratic requirements have on the efficiency of the decision-making processes. He explores the significance of these reforms through case studies of four municipalities. The research has produced sufficient proof to confirm the existence of tension between achieving greater democracy and maintaining a level of efficiency in municipal decision-making. The research also identifies two spaces in which democratic processes unfold, that is, internal and external. A key outcome of the research is the interdependency between external and internal democratic local governance. Community influence in decision-making is therefore more likely to succeed in those municipalities which take decisions in inclusive and transparent ways. ····· 10361119461

Adolescents who are counseled are better adjusted to growth and development than those groups who are not fortunate enough to receive counseling. The book proposes, observance of some guidance practices given to the adolescents in the traditional social setup, church leaders need to look into issues such as establishing a good rapport with adolescents, training lay church workers on the needs of the youth, creating ample time and space for adolescents` needs and utilizing the seclusion camp model suggested so as to guide and counsel adolescents in a more relevant manner. Being in nature, meditating, or simply going through the day`s activities may be associated with a sudden shift in awareness that brings a joyous feeling of connection and truth. These experiences have been reported since the earliest times, and throughout the world, by people with all spiritual beliefs, as well as those who have none. This book describes the history, philosophy, exploration, and possible meanings of these moments of expansion. It also presents the results of a research study conducted by the author suggesting that those having this experience have an increased compassion for self and others, a greater sense of connection with all life, and a fervent desire to bring back into the world the insights gained during the experience. It is suggested that states of expanded perspective are a normal aspect of human development, and may be one indication of a paradigm shift as human consciousness evolves. The book should be of interest to scholars, practitioners, and anyone interested in the discovery of maximum human potential. ····· 10361119280· 1 · ::::: · 14 ·· 15 ·· 16 ·· 17 ·· 18 ·· 19 ·· 20 · ::::: · 49 ·
