Selon une enquête publiée par le site d’information Axios, environ 57 % des Américains estimeraient que des tels événements sont susceptibles de se reproduire dans les années à venir, seulement 55 % penseraient que Joe Biden est le vainqueur légitime de la dernière élection. Et dans une autre étude menée par la chaîne CBS News, un tiers des Américains considéreraient aujourd'hui que l’usage de la force peut parfois servir à défendre les idées démocratiques. Alors en cette journée de commémoration, pour le président des Etats-Unis le temps est à l’avertissement : "Nous devons décider aujourd’hui quelle nation nous allons être. Allons-nous être une nation qui accepte que la violence politique devienne la norme ? Allons-nous être une nation qui autorise des responsables officiels partisans à renverser la volonté exprimée légalement par le peuple ? Allons-nous être une nation qui ne vit pas dans la lumière de la vérité mais à l’ombre du mensonge ?" entend mettre en garde Joe Biden, selon un extrait du discours qu’il doit prononcer, ce jeudi 6 janvier. Le président des Etats-Unis a également décidé d’évoquer publiquement la "responsabilité particulière" de Donald Trump dans ce "chaos" et va "dénoncer avec force le mensonge que propage l’ancien président, qui clame contre toute évidence avoir remporté le scrutin", a expliqué mercredi sa porte-parole. Parallèlement, en marge des préparatifs, le ministre américain de la Justice a assuré que l’administration Biden poursuivra tous les participants à l’assaut contre le Congrès, "quel que soit leur statut". "Nous suivrons les faits où qu’ils mènent", a-t-il poursuivi. Pour faire la lumière sur les événements et les responsabilités de l’attaque du Capitole, une commission d'enquête spéciale du Congrès a été mise en place en juillet 2021 et elle poursuit ses travaux. Il ressort des auditions que l'assaut était "planifié et coordonné", a fait savoir le chef de la commission, le sénateur démocrate Bennie Thompson. Mais Donald Trump a demandé à la Cour suprême de bloquer le transfert de documents à la commission. Il s'agit notamment des listes de personnes lui ayant rendu visite ou l'ayant appelé le 6 janvier 2021. Un an après, l'ancien président n'en démord pas. Il estime que la victoire lui a été volée. C'est d'ailleurs parce qu'il a maintenu cette position que son compte Twitter et son compte Facebook ont été suspendus. Mais pour palier à cela, il entend désormais lancer son propre réseau social "Truth social" et appelle ses supporters à quitter Twitter et Facebook. D’autre part, s’il a finalement renoncé à s’exprimer en cette journée anniversaire, redoutant sans doute que la conférence de presse qu’il voulait donner depuis sa luxueuse résidence de Floride soit la provocation de trop. Donald Trump a donné rendez-vous à ses fans pour un meeting dans l'Arizona, le 15 janvier. Et d’ici là il n’entend pas modérer son verbe. Lui qui multiplie depuis novembre les déclarations a encore qualifié mardi de "crime du siècle" la fraude qui a, selon lui, entaché l’élection présidentielle de 2020. Dans le camp républicain, rares sont ceux qui osent critiquer à voix haute Donald Trump. Très populaire auprès de l'électorat républicain, il est craint par de nombreux élus républicains qui ont tous dans le viseur les élections de mi-mandat en novembre prochain. So Donald Trump has decided that it's probably best if he doesn't give a press conference today, the anniversary of the Capital riot. He had been planning it for a couple weeks and then suddenly, just two days ago says I'm not doing it, which honestly is probably the best thing the Republican party could have hoped for. But not all Republicans are celebrating. Oh no, there's a couple that are super that Donald Trump decided to cancel this event and nobody is angrier right now than Steve Bannon. Steve Bannon of course used his platform this week to say this. We are never going to back off it and that's why president Trump tomorrow should step in front of the microphones at Mar-a-Lago. When Lindsey Graham is giving you advice, run the other way. That guy is wrong on everything. He's part of the problem, not part of the solution. Donald J. Trump should walk up tomorrow at Mar-a-Lago and the whole world would be there. He's got command of the narrative. Nobody's got the facts better than Donald Trump. Nobody can give a press conference better than Donald Trump. If they're telling you not to do something, do the exact opposite, he says. First of all, there was already talk among the networks of not carrying Donald Trump's speech and honestly, I feel like that's probably what weighed more on his decision than Republicans like Lindsey Graham, allegedly telling him, hey, this is a really bad idea. We, we know for a fact that throughout his administration, many people told him a lot of the things he did was a really bad idea, but he did it anyway. I think he was worried that the media wasn't going to cover this, except of course the Trump friendly media outlets, Fox news, Newsmax, One America. And beyond that nobody was gonna pay attention. He would be barking in the dark, which is exactly what should have happened if he had given this speech. Everybody who's been watching this knows that I had already pledged I wasn't gonna watch it. I wasn't gonna cover it. And I encouraged everybody else to do the same. Now that's not an issue because it's not a thing that's going to happen today. And again, the Republican party gets to benefit from that because Donald Trump would have gone out there and spread more lies. He would've gone out there and defended the people that stormed the Capitol at a time when most Americans are already getting off that these people aren't being sentenced harshly enough. More on that coming up on a, in a segment later. But either way, Steve Bannon is 100% wrong here. Everything he said in his statement is wrong. Trump does not have command of the narrative. The public understands what happened that day. Sure. There's plenty of Republicans who think, oh, no, it was totally peaceful protest. But the public at large understands that this was an atrocious event that needs to be investigated. They support, a majority of Americans support the work of the January 6th select committee. So Steve Bannon, I, I know you're supposed to be this kind of brilliant strategist, but really, if you can't see how damaging this would've been for Donald Trump, then you're clearly not as smart as you like to think that you are. Certainly not as smart as Republicans give you credit for being. This would've been a horrible move by the Republican party. They would've had to go and play cleanup for the next couple of weeks. ····· 1110675
