Phylogenetic Diversity: Applications and Challenges in Biodiversity Science

für 108.86€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
`Biodiversity` refers to the variety of life. It is now agreed that there is a `biodiversity crisis`, corresponding to extinction rates of species that may be 1000 times what is thought to be `normal`. Biodiversity science has a higher profile than ever, with the new Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services involving more than 120 countries and 1000s of scientists. At the same time, the discipline is re-evaluating its foundations - including its philosophy and even core definitions. The value of biodiversity is being debated. In this context, the tree of life (`phylogeny`) is emerging as an important way to look at biodiversity, with relevance cutting across current areas of concern - from the question of resilience within ecosystems, to conservation priorities for globally threatened species - while capturing the values of biodiversity that have been hard to quantify, including resilience and maintaining options for future generations. This increased appreciation of the importance of conserving `phylogenetic diversity`, from microbial communities in the human gut to global threatened species, has inevitably resulted in an explosion of new indices, methods, and case studies. This book recognizes and responds to the timely opportunity for synthesis and sharing experiences in practical applications. The book recognizes that the challenge of finding a synthesis, and building shared concepts and a shared toolbox, requires both an appreciation of the past and a look into the future. Thus, the book is organized as a flow from history, concepts and philosophy, through to methods and tools, and followed by selected case studies. A positive vision and plan of action emerges from these chapters, that includes coping with inevitable uncertainties, effectively communicating the importance of this `evolutionary heritage` to the public and to policy-makers, and ultimately contributing to biodiversity conservation policy from local to global scales. ····· 101763077

Behavioural Ecology of Siberian and European Roe Deer (Chapman & Hall Wildlife Ecology and Behaviour Series, Band 2)

für 85.54€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
This book, the second in Chapman & Hall`s Wildlife, Ecology and Behaviour Series, focuses on studies of both European and Siberian roe deer to provide an authoritative insight into the taxonomy, ecology, feeding patterns, social behaviour and population dynamics. It uses this information to tackle the fascinating question of what environmental factors underly ranging patterns and trigger migratory behaviour in some populations but not in others, adding new perspectives and depths to our understanding of general issues in behavioural ecology. ····· 101762408

Borderology: Cross-disciplinary Insights from the Border Zone: Along the Green Belt (Springer Geography)

für 56.43€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
This book provides a unique and multifaceted view on and understanding of borders and their manifestations: physical and mental, cultural and geographical, and as a question of life and death. It highlights the Green Belt along the Iron Curtain, which offered a haven for rare species for many decades and, after the Cold War, became a veritable treasure trove for a European network of researchers. A geographical border is something that can be seen, but other borders sometimes have to be crossed to be discovered. The border zone is an arena for development that is not found in any other places. This book focuses on borderology, which became the name of a cross-border study and research program that explores the border zone from multiple perspectives. This cross-disciplinary book will appeal to interested researchers and students from many fields, from philosophy and diplomacy to ecology and geography. ····· 1017674043

Study of Khardanda beach, Mumbai, India: Physico -Chemical parameters, Biodiversity and Environmental Impact Assessment

für 39.65€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
This book consists of study of Physico-Chemical parameters of shore waters and biodiversity of Khardanda beach of Mumbai, India. Khardanda beach is located on the west coast of Mumbai city. It is unique among Mumbai beaches for the presence of Mangroves and rocky substratum. The Physico- chemical parameters included pH, temperature, DO, BOD, COD, Ammonical nitrogen, Nitrite Nitrogen, Nitrate Nitrogen, Phosphate Phosphorus. The biodiversity of the beach was represented by Algae ( 5 species of Chlorophyta and 5 species of Rhodophyta) , Mangroves (3 species), crabs (8 species), Gastropods (52 species from 24 families), Pelecypods (16 species of 11 families), fish (15 species), Birds (14 species). Environmental impact of Anthropological activities in the nearshore environment was also analysed using Questionnaire, construction of Simple matrix and Interactive matrix. Comparison of present work on Physico-Chemical parameters of shore waters and biodiversity with the previous published works was also done and presented in the book. ····· 1017673827

····· 1017631354
