Dumping and burning of coffee residue brought a serious environmental problem. A study was conducted to evaluate decomposition and mineralization of N from coffee residue in a pot, and its effect on soil physicochemical properties, crop yield, and apparent nutrient balance in the field. Decomposition rate (KD) was controlled by lignin (L) and nitrogen (N) contents, and L/N ratio (R2 = 0.975 , n = 36). Immobilization of soil N persisted for the entire 120 days, and release of N was controlled by lignin and cellulose contents, residue N and L/N ratio (R2 = 0.982 ). In the field, water use efficiency (WUE) increased significantly by 78% for maize. Soil amended with coffee residue showed increase in moisture content, total N (TN) and OC content. The residue increased the physicochemical properties of the soil such as moisture (38%), TN (7.6%), and OC (8%) compared to the control. Therefore, utilization of coffee residue would provide not only as an alternative source of plant nutrients but also alleviates soil fertility and reduce environmental pollution problems. ····· 1036118336

····· 103614745

Plant Productivity Versus Metal Pollution

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Biodiversity and life on earth is completely linked with environment. Large industrial establishment, intensive agriculture and fuel production in the recent era have resulted in the significant increase in the contaminants that enter in our environment. Among these toxic elements, heavy metals are the most dangerous. The situation is more disastrous in developing countries, where waste water is extensively used for irrigation purposes. Metal pollution is a worldwide problem and serious disturbance to the soil and environment. It is a major constraint to food, feed and industrial raw material production because it severely causes the reduction in yield of many important crops. In many areas of the world, good soils which were previously under cultivation have now become unfit due to metal pollution. Pollution of the biosphere by heavy metals has caught our attention in finding new ways to maintain, restore and manage the environment. Different approaches have been devised to fight against the problem caused by heavy metals. Keeping in consideration, the present manuscript is organized to determine the distribution and affect of metal pollution on the plant efficiency. ····· 103613871

Callus Induction and Evaluation of Somaclones in Potato

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The technology of plant tissue culture is recognized worldwide as a creative, promising and feasible option for propagation and genetic manipulation of plant, particularly those with special demands. The most popular application of tissue culture method is in the genetic transformation system. As a tool of genetic engineering of plant, plant regeneration using tissue culture system is taken a crucial part. Another important use of tissue culture system is propagation of plant, which is an alternative method to vegetative plant multiplication. While using conventional propagation methods, one cutting produces one plant. In sexual propagation, one seed produces one plant. In contrast, one explant (a piece of stem, leaf, bud, root, anther, etc.) can produce an infinity number of plants using tissue culture system within a relatively short period. Somaclonal variation can occur when plant regeneration and multiplication involves tissue culture, particularly when there is a callus phase. Today, somaclonal variation tends to be viewed as a source of undesirable variants that need to be screened out of breeding programmes that involve plant regeneration. ····· 103613858

Different sugar types were evaluated on microtuberization efficiencies of potato and sucrose was considered to be the best sugar type and 8% sucrose in media was optimized. The media with 5 uM Jasmonic acid resulted the highest number and maximum yield of microtubers than the other growth regulators used and high nitrate content media increased microtuber size. Application of 2 mg/L AgNO3 and propionic acid added media favored the in vitro microtubers formation. Microtuberization in liquid media followed by incubation at 8 h photoperiod promoted the number and fresh weight of microtubers than the other physical supports (agar based, liquid plus cotton and liquid plus sponge) and incubation (0, 8 and 16 h). The larger microtubers (0.5-0.6 cm diameter) showed significantly higher survival capacity than smaller ones (0.3-0.4 cm dia). The dormancy termination and sprouting efficiencies of microtubers were noted best in media with GA3 (100 ppm) treatment, large size of microtubers and dark incubation. The media with 5 uM Jasmonic acid showed maximum accumulation of total sugar, reducing sugar and starch. The vitamin C content of microtubers decreased with the extended storage periods. ····· 103613700
