Biochemical alterations in taro plants infected by the P. colocasiae were studied and changes in peroxidase, -1,3-glucanase, L-phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, total phenol and total sugar were evaluated. We employed suppressive subtractive hybridization, high through put DNA sequencing and bioinformatics to identify the defense related genes in taro induced by P. colocasiae infection. Two putative resistance genes and a transcription factor were identified among the upregulated sequences. The edible filamentous cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis, along with the unicellular Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, a model organism widely used in genetic, physiological and morphological studies were employed in this study to assess the bioaccumulation of Pb and Cd and their effects on growth, morphology and pigment contents. At higher concentrations (30, 50 and 100 ppm), the growth and the pigment contents of the species were found to be severely affected by both the metals. Though morphological abnormalities in S. platensis were not specific, alterations in the ultrastructure became evident in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 even at low concentration (8 ppm) of metals. Low nitrogen level 90 mg/l, with different phosphorus and potassium combination levels, is not suitable for cucumber plants allover the season medium nitrogen level is, however, suitable till the second week after harvest. Here, the same methodology was adopted in improving the physiology of cotton plants by transforming it with Phy B gene to enhance photosynthetic rate. The results have been promosing in view that they show increased expression of Phy B protein as well as Phy B mRNA untilmately boosting photosynthetic rate stomatal conductance, Relative growth rate, Net assimilation rate, relative leaf growth rate, higher number of smaller but thicker leaves, increased boll size and cotton yield. We studied the expression of 1-syntrophin (SNTA1) protein in histologically confirmed esophageal, stomach, lung, colon, rectal and breast cancerous human tissue samples. Our results suggest a significant decrease in the expression level of SNTA1 protein in both esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) compared with their respective controls while a significant increase in expression of SNTA1 protein compared with the normal tissue was observed in breast carcinoma samples.
