Antimicrobial Activity of Endodontic Sealers

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Endodontic sealers should have a wide antimicrobial spectrum and action time to eliminate microorganisms and to prevent future infection. The objectives of this study were to evaluate and to compare the antimicrobial properties of endodontic sealers. Agar diffusion test (ADT) was used to assess the antimicrobial properties of NanoSeal , AH26 , Tubli-Seal , Sealapex and Roeko-Seal ® against Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus and Escherichia coli in three incubation periods of 24 hours, 48 hours and 7 days. Data were analysed by using Kruskal-Wallis test and P value 0.05 was considered statistically significant of difference. All the tested endodontic sealers exhibited antimicrobial inhibitory activity towards the microorganisms extended to 7 days after manipulation but in descending fashion except for Roeko-Seal® which exhibited no antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial inhibitory activity of the new experimental sealer NanoSeal was comparable to AH26 and as good as other sealers, except for Roeko-Seal®. ····· 1036188491

Evidence based dentistry, based on the concepts developed at Mac Master University, presents guidelines to determine the validity of study results and whether they can be applied to clinical practice. The foundation for evidence-based practice was laid by David Sackett who has defined it as integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research . The evidence-based approach is a straightforward systematic process, which helps the clinician and researcher evaluate the relevant information regarding diagnostic, treatment, prognosis and experimental decisions5. Applying evidence-based process to the dental literature will improve the overall outcome of the oral care. ····· 1036188352

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Developmental defects of Enamel (DDE) are common dental problems that are commonly encountered by the dentist during routine dental practice. DDE result from the effects of genetic, environmental and nutritional factors that affects the enamel during its formation or development period. The effects may be on the laying of the enamel matrix or on the maturation of the enamel. The total result is an effect on on the patient of either the function, aesthetics or both. Many dentists experience difficulties in distinguishing one type of DDE from the other, hence the importance of writing this book. In this book, four types of DDE have been described and a suggestion made on the management regimes of each condition. It is hoped that the book will help many of these dentist to adequately understand and deal with DDE when they encounter them during their routine practice. ····· 1036188245

Acetic acid was evaluated for its effectiveness to be used as an intracanal medicament. Four studies were conducted to confirm the usefulness of acetic acid in medicating the root canals. Study 1: Bacteriology Acetic acid (in different concentrations) and other intracanal medicaments were examined bacteriologically. The weakest concentration of acetic acid that induced a good antimicrobial action was found to be 2 % when it was in direct contact with the microorganisms. The vapor s antimicrobial action of acetic acid was clear in concentrations from 30 % and above. Tricresol formalin, and formocresol exerted an antimicrobial activity that inhibited all the microorganisms on the culture media. CMCP induced a milder antimicrobial action while calcium hydroxide showed a low antimicrobial action only in direct contact. Study 2: Histopathology Twenty albino rabbits were used in this study. Different intracanal medicaments were inoculated in the tibia of the rabbits and the tissue reaction was examined histopathologically after different time intervals. Two percent of acetic acid showed a mild reaction that subsided after 14 days. ····· 1036188151

This study aims at evaluating the effect on dental caries of acidulated phosphate fluoride gel applied topically with different concentrations (1.23% versus 0.4%), frequencies (once a year versus twice a year versus four times a year), and times of application (4 minutes versus 1 minute) and investigates the scope of topical APF gel effect on initial carious lesions as well as on newly erupted teeth. A sample of (340) school children (177 males and 163 females) initially in the fourth grade (aged 9-11 years) were collected from (4) primary schools in Mosul City Centre. The children were allocated randomly to five experimental groups and one control group. The dental examinations were done using DMFT and DMFS indices: one before fluoride application and the other after one year. The results reveal that the use of such a fluoride therapy as a school-based programme is advised for all children with evidence of dental caries, and is recommended to be planned to match the pattern of eruption of teeth. ····· 1036187977

Hepatitis B Virus in Chronic Carriers

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Hepatitis B virus is a serious public health problem worldwide and major cause of acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It was estimated that approximately 30% of the world`s population, or about 2 billion people have serological evidence of past or present HBV infection. It was reported that 15-40% of HBV infected patients would develop cirrhosis, liver failure or HCC and 500,000 to 1.2 million people die of HBV infection annually. The high resistance of HBV to inactivation and its high concentration in blood and other body fluids such as saliva, semen, vaginal secretion, breast milk and tears accounts for its high infectivity. Health care workers, haemophiliacs and other persons who have received regular transfusions of blood and blood products are at increased risk of infection. The overall aim of this book is to investigate the infectivity of saliva of HBV chronic carriers through detection of HBV antigens and their corresponding antibodies and HBV DNA. ····· 1036187945

The effect of different concentrations of hydrogel of sodium ascorbate on bond strength of bleached enamel for varying periods of time and the mode of failure was evaluated.Seventy enamel surfaces were obtained from 35 human extracted premolars. Specimens were divided into four groups: no bleaching (control), bleaching with carbamide peroxide gel, bleaching and application of 10% / 20% sodium ascorbate hydrogel for 30, 60, 120 min. Surfaces were bonded with a total etch bonding system and composite resin. Specimens were tested for shear bond strength. Mode of failure was determined by stereomicroscope. Data were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance, and Scheffe`s post hoc test. Sodium ascorbate hydrogel application following bleaching increased the resin-enamel bond strength and was directly proportional to its duration of application. However, there was no difference in bond strength with an increase in the concentration of sodium ascorbate hydrogel. Immediate bonding of composite resin to bleached enamel is possible after treatment with antioxidant sodium ascorbate hydrogel. ····· 1036187484

Scientists have identified the Mesenchymal type of stem cell inside dental pulp. This particular type of stem cell has the future potential to differentiate into a variety of other cell types. The general objective of the study is to assess the proliferation rate of the DPSCs and SHED with and without GranuMas® scaffold. This study also aimed to isolate and characterize DPSCs and SHED, assessed their proliferation and detection the expression level of two proliferative markers. DPSCs and SHED were addressed to the characterization by CD105 and CD166, which are mesenchymal stem cells markers and found to be strongly positive to these markers by flow cytometry and by immunocytochemistry. Both DPSCs and SHED expressed the proliferating cycling cells markers (Ki-67 and PCNA) by flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry. From our finding it showed that SHED has faster proliferation rate than DPSCs according to Alamar Blue® assay result, and the proliferation rate of DPSCs and SHED on GranuMas® is lower. ····· 1036187315

One of the important goals of periodontal therapy is the restoration of the lost periodontium and conversion of the periodontitis affected root surface into a substrate, which is biologically hospitable for epithelial and connective tissue cell adherence and attachment. An objective of periodontal treatment is the predictable regeneration of the periodontium in areas previously affected by periodontal disease. Periodontitis affected root surfaces show many changes and the root is commonly referred to as pathologically exposed . The traditional treatment of pathologically altered root surfaces has relied on mechanical removal of plaque and calculus, root bound toxins and contaminated cementum. It is not possible to decontaminate a periodontitis affected root surface completely by mechanical means alone. The instrumented surface will inevitably be covered by a smear layer which is usually comprised of remnants of dental calculus, necrosed root cementum, flecks of hydroxyapatite crystals, microorganisms and their products. The root surface serves as a wound margin during regeneration so it is necessary to rehabilitate the root surface for cell attachment and fiber insertion. ····· 1036186662

····· 1036173712

Traumatic Injuries of permanent teeth and their management

····· lezzter Preis 61.20€ ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Traumatic dental injuries present difficult problems for both patients and their dentists. Current evidence allows the dental health care provider to manage situations that, in the past, often resulted in crippled dentition and unsightly appearance. Appropriate treatment can turn what at first glance looks like a hopeless situation into a very satisfactory outcome for patients. Most dental injuries involve damage to one or two teeth. However, often multiple teeth are injured and injuries are associated with soft tissue and alveolar fractures. In these cases, treatment must be prioritized and preference given to injuries for which time is important in determining long-term prognosis. Dental traumatology has progressed in recent years to improve the understanding of the biological considerations involved in both diagnosis and treatment principles. Through public awareness efforts, people now are more knowledgeable about dental trauma (e.g. knowing to put an avulsed tooth in milk). Research explores new approaches (e.g. laser doppler flowmeter for pulpal evaluation) and materials (e.g. Emdogains). The future has promise for even more successful management of traumatic dental injuries. ····· 1036125975
