It provides quantitative evidence that IAP has significant health impacts comparable to smoking. Based on analysis of IAP impacts on spirometry indicators, the evidence suggests that IAP has major impacts on restrictive lung disease rather than obstructive lung disease. These results explain why certain diseases are more highly associated with IAP exposure. Considering that traditional biomass will likely continue to be the most popular cooking fuel in rural areas of India in the near future, and that households can achieve considerable welfare gains from improvement in stoves and kitchen ventilation, the analysis suggests that the Indian government should consider reviving the improved stove program with a new advanced stove strategy coupled with conducting advocacy campaigns on how to improve kitchen ventilation. ····· 10361101358

However, this overlooks the cost of distributing products or accessing facilities. In this volume, urban water supply is taken as a case study to assess the importance of such spatial costs, using evidence from Britain and the USA. It finds that water distribution costs are strongly influenced by the spatial form of urban settlements, with lower density raising costs substantially. It concludes that density may be as important as market size in determining whether or not there are economies of scale in water supply - a conclusion that it is suggested may well extend to other urban infrastructure and services. These findings and the supporting analysis will be of interest to urban planners, urban economists, developers, water and other utility companies, competition authorities and regulators. ····· 10361101319

Evidence is provided that the progressive relaxations in the UK`s petroleum fiscal regime in 1983, 1987-88 and 1993 were: largely unnecessary to stimulate the development of new, smaller, marginal` fields misguided in their assumption that such fields were more costly to develop than earlier counterparts or larger contemporary fields and impotent compared with the effects of oil price movements. The paper concludes with a conceptualisation which illuminates why these failures of policy were not just random: they emerged from the UK`s non-proprietorial` stance with respect to the country`s oil and gas resources, a stance which assumes responsibility for oil company profitability and vainly tries to counter market forces at the expense of government revenues. ····· 10361101296

Its rich flora and fauna are intricately related to the lives and traditions of the people of Arunachal. However, in recent year, along with economic development, government sponsored urbanization technological development and the penetration of market have led to the growing depletion of common property resources which have far reaching consequences upon rural poverty and environmental degradation. This study attempts to quantify the importance of common property resources in the economy of Arunachal Pradesh and its impact to rural poverty and environmental degradation. The study also focuses on the participatory approach to resource management which is found to have the potentialities to provide sufficient incentive to the community members to use the resource base optimally and to reduce the problems of free-ridership and opportunism for its conservation. The econometric analysis was employed to exploit the theory of cointegration, given the obvious non- stationarity of the time series. The study used Engle-Granger two step procedures. Three measures of exchange rate volatilities were used and produced mixed results. The mean adjusted relative change (V) as a measure of exchange rate volatility indicated positive and insignificant impact on real exports of Namibia. The moving average standard deviation (MASD) as a measure of exchange rate volatility produced a negative insignificant impact of exchange rate volatility on real exports of Namibia. The last measure of exchange rate volatility was the general autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (GARCH), which indicated a positive and significant impact of exchange rate volatility on Namibia`s real exports. These results suggest that Namibia should start exploring possibility of macro-economic policy independence and be involved in the determination of exchange rate within the CMA framework. ····· 10361101095

This book , therefore provides an important rationale for cooperation between several interested parties in utilizing the high production capacities of white leg shrimp. The rationale is that an increase in the cooperation level leads to an increase, not only in the stocking densities, but also in several other related factors of white leg shrimp production. Some measures are also proposed to improve the aquaculture area. An empirical investigation of the efficiency of a white leg shrimp farmer was demonstrated. One of the most striking features of Latin America during this period was the very limited extent of banking development. Perhaps the most common explanation for some Latin American countries is that restrictive bank laws established high barriers to entry and discouraged the formation of banks and the provision of banking services. In this book, however, I show that liberal bank laws did not necessarily lead to highly developed banking systems, and that a low demand for banking services was a significant cause for the stunted development of the banking sector in most of Latin America during this era. Using annual data for seven Latin American countries for this period, I find that the long-run supply of banking services largely responded to changes in the demand for banking services. Country-case studies for Argentina and Peru strongly support these findings. In these two countries, the banking sector responded to the demand for banking sector by opening bank offices and providing banking services in response to positive demand shocks. ····· 10361100822

Clearly it is imperative that the value of freshwater inflows into estuaries be determined and these values incorporated into catchment management decision making. South African estuaries have in the past mainly been managed on a piecemeal basis-sometimes in the interest of fishermen, sometimes property development owners and sometimes other local interest groups. This situation changed with the National Water Act of 1998. One of its objectives was to address the mismanagement and inadequate research about water inflow impacts on estuaries (Allanson and Baird, 1999). Given the overwhelming evidence available on the significance of freshwater inflow to estuary functionality, it is clear that an important component of catchment management is the allocation of river water into estuaries. Economic guidance comes in the form of comparisons of value. There are seven estuaries for which values were generated, the Heuningnes, Kleinmond, Klein, Palmiet, Cefane, Kwelera and Haga-Haga. ····· 10361100781

Covenants are agreements that give the creditors more guarantees about the reliability of their loan: when they are breached, they allow the lenders to take certain actions, as the early repayment of the loan or the change of the debt`s terms, in order to protect them against a potential borrower`s default. Covenants are therefore useful for creditors` protection but they also restrict the business policies of borrowers. These clauses may be included both in public and in private debt. The goal of this work is to provide a theoretical model that analyses the impact of a covenant on both types of debt. In order to guarantee the efficiency of the instrument, there are some necessary conditions to satisfy, otherwise it does not collect the desired result. To define the conditions for the covenant efficiency, we proceed by steps, analyzing firstly the financing decision of a firm without the covenant and then examining how a covenant either on the public or on the private debt, can impact on the firm`s choice. ····· 10361100766

Performance reporting is more difficult in nonprofit organizations than in for-profit organizations since no profitability information can be communicated. Nonprofits tend to focus on other concepts to define performance mainly efficiency, effectiveness and social value. The main theory on nonprofit performance is described in the Organizational Effectiveness literature. Impact assessment has been suggested as a way to measure nonprofit organizational performance. This concept is related to the effectiveness concept of goal attainment, but goes one step further and focuses on impact rather than mere outcomes. In this research a first attempt is made to measure the impact of a specific Dutch nonprofit organization, the Netherlands Heart Foundation. Investors and financial managers are always worried of potential and existing risk in the financial markets and for this reason, there is always a huge demand for new risk management strategies and modern financial instruments for hedging and risk mitigation purposes. Furthermore, when the borrower has intertemporal consumption preference rather than aggregate consumption preference, the potential investment distortion problem is weakly exacerbated. The change of the borrower`s risk preference from constant absolute risk aversion to decreasing absolute risk aversion lowers the occurrence of the potential investment distortion as his personal wealth increases. This is because households are stacked at consuming both inferior and advanced fuels with the progress in their income. Hence, there must be other dictating factors which interplay to determine fuel choice of households. So, this study attempted to test the two hypotheses for rural households of Ethiopia. The study should therefore provide crucial insights for interested researchers on the subject matter. ····· 10361100649
