Taking a cue from the present strategies to control iron and zinc deficiencies, this study was undertaken to establish the severity of antagonistic interactions between iron and zinc and their post absorptive effects. These studies also indicate that the risk of oxidative damage during oral iron repletion is greatly reduced in the presence of zinc. However, optimal dosage of iron and zinc to improve body status and to ward off peroxidative damage risk to the intestine during supplementation should be considered. However, such studies are essential in clinical situations to recommend the levels of iron and zinc to be used for correcting the deficiencies.
