Andrographis paniculata (AP) has selected to be developed as an anti-diabetic herbal extract. However, the adverse effect of AP on male reproductive function is still unknown. The present study aims to look at the effects of 50% AP ethanolic extract (APE) on the male Sprague Dawley rats reproductive functions and to see whether it has anti-fertility effects. Four important endpoints were observed i.e. male reproductive performance (MRP), male sexual behavior (MSB), histological toxicity evaluation of male reproductive organs and hormonal level. Sixty adult male rats aged 8-10 weeks were used in this study. Five groups were administered with APE at doses of 0.5, 1.0, 10, 100 and 1000 mg/kg for not less than 77 days by oral gavaging. MRP remained unaffected and no toxicity effects were observed. The treatment of APE of up to 1000mg/kg neither induce any significant changes in sexual behavioral parameters nor changes of body, reproductive organs and other internal organs weights. APE treatment effect showed no anti-fertility or toxic effects to male reproductive functions. APE seems, therefore, to be safe for rats. ····· 1036125750

Plant extracts as Anti-Cancer agents

····· lezzter Preis 61.20€ ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The present study investigates the anti-cancer and multi drug resistance (MDR) reversal potential of hydroalcoholic Allium cepa, Allium sativum, Boerhavia diffusa and Eclipta alba extracts through in vitro as well as in vivo experiments. Plant Extracts were able to induce apoptosis in both cell lines and cancer induced animals, promising result was given by EAE and ASE. RT-PCR analysis revealed that the mRNA expression of NF B was markedly decreased in vitro and in vivo upon treated with the PE, preferably by EAE. Our data suggest the presence of bioactive compounds in PE, capable of augmenting liver carcinoma cells by lowering the level of MMP, ROS, induction of apoptosis, altered NF B signaling and reversing MDR but among all extracts EAE shown the superlative result. These results suggest that EAE is a novel anti-cancer and potent MDR reversal agent and may be a potential adjunctive agent for tumor chemotherapy. ····· 1036125724

Genetic Engineering of Oil Palm

Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is considered to be the first strategic food crop in Egypt. Wheat is the most important grain crop for bread flour and straw crop for livestock feed in Egypt. Nitrogen (N), an essential element of the biochemical processes that drives crop production. Ammonium sulphate with Sakha94. Increases in response to ammonium sulfate in the SPN, leaf area and dry-matter at anthesis were higher than those in response to urea in four cultivars. However, there was no difference in responses of the SPN to plant-absorbed N between the two fertilizers in any of the cultivars. The SPN and straw weight at anthesis per applied and absorbed N in Sakha94 and Sakha93 were the highest among the four cultivars, respectively. The results indicated that higher applied nitrogen lead to significantly increase in WUE in both cultivars under irrigated and desiccated conditions. In addition to WUE was significantly higher under desiccated conditions than irrigated conditions in both cultivars. Observed that drought was imposed after anthesis, the primary cause of increased WUE was decreased leaf chlorophyll concentration, photosynthesis rate and stomatal conductance (gs). ····· 1036125566

Bacterial Amylases

····· lezzter Preis 44.10€ ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
As one of the earths most abundant sources of energy, the starch industries world-wide have experienced exceptional growth in the past decades. This has been coupled with the increased use of amylases, a class of enzymes that break down starchy foods into simple sugars like glucose, maltose and limit dextrins. Amylases have found numerous applications ranging from leavening of breads, brewing, preparation of digestive aids and syrups, desizing of textiles, modification of coated paper to generation of fuels, manufacture of gypsum board for dry wall construction and as an additive in laundry detergents. Certain bacteria have the inherent property of synthesizing amylases to break down starch into readily utilizable products. These products are used by these bacteria for their sustenance and growth. This property of bacteria has been exploited for the industrial production of amylases where large scale economical production of enzymes is essential. ····· 1036125413

History and Disribution Patterns of African Mammals

····· lezzter Preis 44.10€ ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Summary Biogeography is the study of the distribution patterns of organisms. The biogeographical patterns associated with the radiation of individual clad during the Early Palaeozoic reflect a complex combination of plate distribution, tectonic activity, sedimentary environment, sea-level rise and climatic gradient. Geographical distributions of terrestrial or aquatic taxa that are broken up by oceans can be explained by either oceanic dispersal or vicariance in the form of fragmentation of a previously contiguous landmass. The present mammals evolution and distribution patterns are largely a result of shifting landmasses by continental drift, dispersal or vicariance, climatic factors and extinction. Distribution of animals is limited by various environmental conditions which the most restrictive barriers are the separation of the land by water, high mountain ranges and deserts. The marsupial and placental mammals originated at a time when the pattern of geographical barriers (oceans, shallow seas and mountains) was very different from that of today, and climates were warmer. The sequence of changes in these barriers, and their effects on the dispersal of the mammal families and o ····· 1036125396

Glutathione and hormones

This study provides insights into the role of hormonal treatment with testosterone, dexamethasone and corticosterone in relation to oxidative stress and the resulting adaptive modulations in the activities of antioxidant enzymes in the circulation, hepatic and renal tissues. Accordingly, the main glutathione metabolizing enzymes as well as the blood and tissue lipid profile were assessed. The results suggested that steroid hormones mobilize fatty acids into the liver and kidneys where they are confronted by the glutathione system. As a consequence several intonations in the activities of antioxidant enzymes were observed. The hepatic tissue was more efficient in curbing the levels of lipid peroxides whereas the renal tissue was not as successful and the levels of peroxides were maintained at high levels. The oxidative effects of dexamethasone were generally more prominent than those of testosterone. It is concluded that steroid hormones modulate the activities of important antioxidant enzymes and consequently the availability of glutathione, the major free radical scavenger and the protector against oxidative stress. The possible underlying mechanisms beyond these effects were discussed. ····· 1036125336

The tubers of cassava (Manihot esculenta), a high-carbohydrate, staple food in many tropical countries, contain high levels of cyanogenic glycosides which release the well-known poisonous gas hydrogen cyanide (Gershenzon, 2002). Cases of acute poisoning from ingestion of cassava are occasionally reported (Hanlon, 1981) meaning that the traditional detoxification methods employed to remove cynogenic glycosides from cassava are not completely effective (Gershenzon, 2002). This manuscript attempts to redress the problem by providing some effective traditional processing techniques used by some Ugandan communities to detoxify cassava root tubers to levels suitable for human consumption and it is useful to any person who consumes cassava. ····· 1036125188

PCR analysis of T1 plants from the independent calli revealed the presence of katE and nptII genes. ····· 1036125052

Phycochemistry & Bioacivity of Different Seaweeds from Karachi

····· lezzter Preis 71.10€ ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The knowledge about algal chemistry is gradually becoming more significant. Recently a new term, phycochemistry has been proposed by Shameel (1990). Phycochemistry is the study of natural products and chemical constituents occurring in algae, from a biological point of view. As a new branch of phycology it has emerged as a result of huge and amassed knowledge about secondary metabolites occurring in algal phyla (divisions). It distinguishes itself very clearly from phytochemistry in general on one hand and algal biochemistry on the other. It differs from the main objectives of algal chemotaxonomy and should therefore, be dealt with as an independent branch of phycology. The present study was undertaken to investigate the predominant species of blue-green, green, brown and red seaweeds and to bring about a comparison of the composition of their saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and sterols as well as their bioactivities. The idea was to develop a better understanding about their phycochemistry. ····· 1036125016

Genomics-based approach to develop submergence tolerance in rice

····· lezzter Preis 44.10€ ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Rice is emerging as a model cereal for molecular biological studies. The main reasons for this is complete genome has been sequenced. As it is the staple food for more than one-third of the world s population and is grown under a wide range of agro-climatic conditions in which it is subjected to diverse biotic and abiotic stresses. Various abiotic stresses limit rice production in rainfed environments, which comprise about 45% of the global rice area. The rainfed lowland rice ecosystem is affected by not only water deficit but also excess water. Even where rice response to stress is superior to other crops, however, many rice-growing environments demand still greater tolerance, which is found in most improved germplasm. Efforts are in progress on developing rice varieties carrying the submergence tolerant gene by introgression may substantially improve and stabilize rice production in flood-prone environments. The strategy of marker assisted selection(MAS)is relatively more efficient than selection by phenotype alone. Microsatellite markers are highly suitable for MAS in rice and have been used effectively to identify tolerant genes for integression into susceptible rice cultivars. ····· 1036124890
