Shared leadership has been identified as a key governance base for the future of government and Catholic schools in Queensland, Australia, the state`s two largest providers of school education. Shared leadership values the contributions that many individuals can make through collaboration and teamwork. It claims to improve organisational performance and reduce the increasing pressures faced by principals. However despite these positive features, shared leadership is generally not well understood, not well accepted and not valued by those who practice or study leadership. A collective case study method was chosen, incorporating a series of semi-structured interviews with principals and the use of official school documents. The study has explored the current understanding and practice of shared leadership in four Queensland schools and investigated its potential for use. This book presents the lessons learned about shared leadership, from an exploration of theory and practice, for anyone interested in leadership. ····· 10361102287

In most schools students learn English with their eyes: they read textbooks, memorise words and study grammar rules. Visually impaired students, however, are in a little bit different situation: they cannot learn English with their eyes, they have to rely on their other senses. This book allows teachers to take their students into the world of hearing, touch, smell and taste: they listen to the waves crashing against the shore and create their own poem about a seashell lying on the shore they become famous storytellers and invent their own stories as they are touching objects in the paper bag they smell butter, onion, lemon, chocolate candle and express their personal feelings they touch saucepan, bowl, pot... and speak about their favourite recipes.... This book offers a wide variety of speaking activities which are based either on students` own personal experience or on imaginative situations. It is intended for teachers of VIL, nevertheless, it may be easily used by all teachers who are not afraid of changing their traditional way of teaching, who want to take their students into the world of imagination and who want to make their lessons more creative, lively and exciting. ····· 10361102250

This research study provides a holistic understanding of the many elements that must be aligned correctly in order for the inclusive pactices in our nation`s public schools to function effectively. The data from this study supports the need for a review of the inclusive practices of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) policy. Also, teachers must acquire new pedagogical approaches to enhance their performances in the classroom. Inclusion is the prefered way of instruction delivery under the NCLB mandate. All students are taught together in the same classroom with their peers. This practice includes students with varying learning exceptionalities and behaviors. Some teachers perceive that they are not fully prepared with the knowledge of how to provide effective instruction that meets the needs of all the students equally. Interrogating Colonial Discourse in Kiribati Secondary Education

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
This study interrogates the ways both the people and the nation of Kiribati in the Central Pacific have been officially represented by various socially dominant groups, that is, by colonising agents such as missionaries and administrators and more recently by I-Kiribati authorities. The interrogation of representations in a range of official `texts` exposes five key discourses that have sought to legitimise practices of governance generally, and more specifically, educational practice in Kiribati. These discourses follow one another in a loose chronology but also, to a degree, overlap and most importantly, inform contemporary governance and education. The discourses include constructions of the I-Kiribati body, cultural authenticity, contradictory liberalism, economic development and universalisation. The analysis of each discourse not only demonstrates the interestedness of the dominant social presence but helps explain differential privilege in contemporary governance and educational practice along lines of gender, location and class. The study aims to challenge the dominant discourses and suggests possibilities for talking about educational alternatives in Kiribati. ····· 10361102148

EDUCATION AMONG THE AKAMBA PEOPLE 1895-1970

This book looks at the Africa Inland Mission (AIM),a faith based evangelical mission organization in the development of education in Ukamba region of south-eastern part of Kenya from 1895-1970. Africa Inland Mission pioneered the introduction of Western form of education to the Akamba community amidst many challenges. AIM`s founder, Peter Cameroon Scott introduced education in Nzaui Mission station in 1896 before his death. Scott`s vision was to spread the gospel of Christ Jesus by establishing a chain of mission stations from the east coast of Africa to the west. He died a year later in 1896, after opening mission stations at Sakai, Kilungu and Kangundo. After his death, God raised Charles E.Hurlburt, as his successor who gave the organization a new structure and made Scott`s vision a reality in Africa. Hurlburt supported and encouraged the use of education as a strategy for evangelism in AIM from 1906 till his resignation in 1925. The Akamba people resisted this modern education in favor of their traditional methods of training but after 1920s they changed their attitude and demanded AIM must improve their educational curriculum in Ukamba region. ····· 10361102129

A Journey from Learning to Teach to Teaching to Learn across Cultures

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The purpose of this in-depth case study was to document the tensions experienced by a non-native speaker (NNS), Peiling (pseudonym) during her one and a half years of study in a Master`s language education program in the United States (US) and in her subsequent teaching practices upon returning to teach English as a foreign language (EFL) in an elementary school in Taiwan. Grounded in theories of postmodernism, the study employed narrative inquiry mediated by Peiling`s voices and lived experiences to capture the complexities of identity construction relating to language teaching and learning. The findings demonstrate that much needs to be learned by both teacher educators and NNSs to foresee, examine, interrogate reconfigurate, rearticulate, seek meaning, and reflect upon the journey from learning to teach and to teaching to learn across cultures. A collaborative model was proposed to call for seeking passage through co- journeying between teacher educators and NNSs. This model urges that language teacher education programs reconceptualize the competing and contradictory systems of knowledge about language pedagogy and curriculum. ····· 10361102120

Factors Shaping Pre-Service Teacher Identities in an HIV/AIDS Context

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Emerging educational literature suggests that the teacher identity invoked as pre-service teachers (PSTs) greatly contributes to how roles and responsibilities are viewed and prioritized in the teaching field. This book aims to explore factors that shape PST identities, specifically in response to the government prescribed teaching roles and responsibilities in the context of South Africa`s HIV/AIDS epidemic. Findings from this study indicate that PSTs bring an array of their own experiences, knowledge and perceptions to the teacher-training program which ultimately shape their teacher identity. The contribution of this study lies in its innovative approach to teacher training: it moves beyond looking at the knowledge PSTs require to equip them in their teaching capacity, to a deeper exploration of how PST training can unearth aspects of their lives that will preclude or encourage them to teach effectively. Based on evidence from the study, this book argues that the PST`s experience, knowledge and perceptions should be considered when developing teacher-training programs in order to promote a comprehensive and effective educational response to HIV/AIDS and other societal concerns. ····· 10361102055

ICT (Information Communication Technologies) in mathematics education

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Traditional approaches in teaching geometry are pedagogically authoritative in nature and thus, students are not encouraged to question the validity or construction of geometrical entities. The use of technological resources with a variety of learning activities is usually limited. This book, therefore, describes a research project that studies the use of a Dynamic Geometry Software (DGS) tool in geometry learning and its implications for students` learning experiences. The dynamic and interactive medium of DGS provides students with an opportunity to share and discuss visually emergent geometrical phenomena. Apart from its implication for students` cognitive development, a DGS tool may have an effect on students` learning experiences in geometry classes from different aspects. The research analysis should help in picturing the effects of the use of a DGS tool with the presence of other factors, such as group work and the use of worksheets on certain changes in students` learning experiences of geometrical concepts. Therefore, this book should be especially useful to math teachers, educators or anyone else who may be interested in the use of computer technology in math education. ····· 10361102044

MITIGATING STRATEGIES IN THE PRAGMATIC INTERLANGUAGE OF PRE- SERVICE TEACHERS OF ENGLISH

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
This book addresses two areas of linguistics: mitigation as a pragmatic strategy, and formulaic language as a linguistic device. It examines to what extent mitigation is part of the pragmatic interlanguage of a population of English teachers in training, in a foreign language setting, with regard to recognition and production of formulaic mitigating devices. In most of the literature, mitigation is treated as part of politeness phenomenon. The view taken in this work is that mitigation is a distinct and cohesive strategy adopted to reduce severity of perlocutionary effects of oppositional speech acts. Moreover, the mitigating function of formulae deserves a place in the growing body of literature on formulaic language. Thus, this study is an attempt to consolidate the research on mitigation with three purposes: firstly, to focus specifically on mitigation as distinct from other reasons for indirectness secondly, to situate formulaic language as instantiation of mitigating strategies and thirdly, to apply the resulting constructs to an examination of the pragmatic interlanguage of a specific group of learners in asymmetrical interactions in a tertiary setting. ····· 10361101905

Modelling Learning

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Based on the author`s empirically based research on children`s literacy development at home and school, Joan Travers Simon (Ph.D.) postulates and critically reviews a model of learning, informed by cultural psychology and sociocultural theory. The transdisciplinary approach, complemented by diachronic and synchronic data analysis, brings to light potential variations between long-term and short-term development. It also stresses the importance of time as a complex variable in developmental issues in conjunction with the proactive, dialogic nature of social agents negotiating environmental cues at varying levels of consciousness. In an insightful manner, appealing to the various stakeholders in children`s development, and particularly to practising and future teachers, the author convincingly argues for a reassessment of central notions regarding children`s learning and how we as adults may best support such learning processes. ····· 10361101890
