····· 10361107844

Detection mechanism of reducing gases and influence of water on tin dioxide based gas sensors

für 45.80€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
One of the main problems of undoped SnO2 based sensors in real life applications is their lack of selectivity and the most encountered cross interference comes from the water vapor. Its effect is twofold: it decreases the sensor resistance and its presence in various concentration changes the response magnitude under exposure to identical target gas concentrations. It is also known that the addition of small quantities of noble metals has a considerable impact on the gas sensing with SnO2 based sensors among others, it also influences the effect of water vapor on sensing. The impact of the presence of different concentrations of water vapor on the CO sensing is very different for the undoped and doped materials. For the undoped one, the sensor signal is extremely decreased, whereas the doped materials exhibit higher sensor responses in the presence of humidity. In order to understand the -obviously - different reaction mechanism on the different gas sensors, measurements with different test gases (H2O, D2O, H2, D2, CO) and in different atmospheres (N2 and air) were performed. The application of an operando set up (combined measurements in real life conditions) enabled the combination of phenomenological (DC resistance) and spectroscopic measurement techniques (DRIFTS) and the correlation of electrical effects with changes on the surface of the working sensor. In this way it was possible to identify the reaction partners of the test gases on the different surfaces and explain the - one enhancing once diminishing - interfering effect of water vapor on the CO sensing. ····· 10361107799

It gives me immense pleasure in introducing my first book named as `High-Pressure ElectroChemistry and Applications` based on my PhD works. This book explained on newly self-developed high-pressure instruments combined with available Electro- analyzers. This deals with electrochemical aspects of the development and applications of HP-EQCM. The discussion of these aspects develops through the fundamentals of electrochemical experiments (CV, EQCM) separately or simultaneously in HP-system via the interaction of electrochemical behaviors to finally include the interfacing of the high-pressure chemistry world. The final focus is investigated on the construction and applications by HP- EQCM from 14.7 (~1 atm) to 25000 PSi. I worked consistently for almost four years to accomplish this work under the proper guidance of my respective PhD supervisor. I hope that this work would further enhance the electrochemistry, especially in bringing new entrants into the high-pressure electrochemistry fields and help scientists to pick-up/forward and develop their own field of specialization. The dynamics of nanometer sized water droplets have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years. The model system for such studies is water-in-oil (w/o) microemulsion, comprising of water droplets in a non-polar fluid and stabilized by the surfactant. One of the aspects in current research on microemulsion concerns the high solubilization of additives and green synthesis in microemulsion media. The effect of solubilized additives on the microemulsion varies according to the structures of the components. Such changes, however, are often greater than those found in aqueous solutions. Therefore, due care must be exercised in evaluating the effects of even small additions on the aggregation characteristics of surfactants in aqueous solvents. This book is a comprehensive reference that describes microemulsion as a media for solubilization and synthesis. The information is important for better understanding of chemistry and mechanics of organic catalysis, as a probe for studying the mechanistic aspects of many reactions, and as a route to improve yields in reactions of academic interest. ····· 10361102800

The research investigated the permeability in polymer membranes for direct alcohol fuel cell. A description of fuel cell operating principles, types of fuel cell, applications and advantages of fuel cells. The properties of proton exchange membrane such as porosity, water and aqueous alcoholic solution uptake, and ion exchange capacity were determined. The permeability of various alcohols through nafion-115 and nafion-1135 was determined using cyclic voltammetry technique. Nafion membrane porosity decreases with increase in membrane thickness. Nafion 115 has lower membrane porosity than Nafion-1135 in water, 1M Methanol, 1M Ethanol and 1M isopropyl alcohol solutions. Nafion- 115 with higher thickness, lower permeability, and lesser porosity is suggested as a better polymer electrolyte membrane for direct alcohol fuel cells. ····· 10361102692

Computer Simulations of Partially Confined Water

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Liquids in narrowly confined spaces have properties that are very different from those of the bulk. In this thesis three different systems have been studied using computer simulations. The first is a molecular dynamics study of liquid water between parallel plates subjected to an external electric field. The second study is a Monte Carlo simulation of water inside a carbon nanotube. We study the electric field dependence of the equilibrium between the empty and filled states of the nanotube. We also investigate the electric field dependence of the equilibrium between the two states of the filled tube that correspond to two orientations of the total dipole moment of the water chain along the tube axis. By studying the temperature dependence of the free energy of occupancy, we evaluate the energy and entropy of the water inside the tube relative to bulk water. Finally, these Monte Carlo methods are applied to water in hydrophobic protein cavities. The filling of nonpolar cavities with water is found to be thermodynamically favorable under conditions which are critically dependent on the cavity size and the interactions with the cavity walls. ····· 10361102504

Entrapment of Anti-TB Drugs in Microemulsion Assemblies

The thrust for finding newer drug delivery systems for existing therapeutic molecules has opened a wide window for colloidal systems. Among many successful colloidal drug delivery systems, the microemulsions have been widely explored. Due to the presence of different domains of variable polarity in the microemulsions, they show a huge potential to be used as drug delivery vehicles for a variety of drugs. To thoroughly understand the drug delivery potential of microemulsion, it is necessary to know the possible phase transitions occurring in the system and the influence of drug on its microstructure. Recent years have witnessed the use of different microemulsions in developing a new generation of more effective drug delivery vehicles. The new methods are being developed to formulate formulations out of a seemingly endless number of combinations of surfactants and cosurfactants. This work is an extension in this direction wherein Tween-based microemulsion has been thoroughly characterized. It appears beneficial for the delivery of anti-TB drugs in terms of easy preparation, low cost, controlled release and improved stability without precipitation of drugs. ····· 10361102379

Electrochemical behavior of Paracetamol in aqueous media has been studied by three electroanalytical techniques namely CV, SWV & DPV with GCE. Many Voltammetric parameters have been optimized and their influence in peak current and peak potential were studied. A quasi-reversible reaction with the transfer of two electrons per molecule of Paracetamol was observed. As the pH increases the anodic peak potential drastically shifts to the negative potential, which indicates that hydrogen ion takes part in the electrochemical oxidation of Paracetamol.24 The maximum peak current was observed at pH 7. The effect of concentration and scan rate on anodic peak current has been studied. In conclusion the Voltammetric study of Paracetamol requires no purification or extraction steps. Electroanalytical techniques have a major advantage in time and economy in the study. ····· 10361102095

Kinetics of phosphate release in tropical soils

The rate at which phosphate (P) is desorbed from the soil surface into soil solution is a key factor that regulates the continuous supply of P to crops. understanding the kinetics of P desorption is paramount for effective P management in order to boost agricultural production and to minimize environmental degradation and pollution. Several kinetic models were compared for describing P desorption rates in savanna soils of varying lithogenic origins, and the effect of soil properties on P release rate was determined. Phosphate desorption rates were best described by three empirical kinetic models: Elovich equation, the parabolic diffusion equation and the fractional power equation. The rate coefficients varied widely among soils from the same parent materials and between parent materials due probably to variations in the properties of the soils. This work is intended to give an inner understanding of P behavior and management strategies especially in tropical soils with variable charge properties and high preponderance of Fe and Al oxides, most especially to researchers and graduate students that are interested in chemical kinetics and phosphorus chemistry. ····· 10361102039

Modelling Molecular Self-Organisation

The study of self-organising chemical systems merges together concepts and techniques from different fields. This book focuses on those in use in soft matter and complexity science, which are introduced after a short review of the current nanotechnological applications of molecular self-assembly and the main problems encountered in modelling the self-organised behaviour of chemical systems. The attention is on Monte Carlo (MC) based methods. The MC method is first applied to two systems of experimental interest, showing that simplified models are able to reproduce the experimental observations, and predict phase diagrams and bonding motif. Follows the description of our new Agent Based (AB) algorithm for the study of molecular self-organisation. The AB algorithm, which can include elements of artificial intelligence and is traditionally used for the study of complex systems, is capable of driving the system towards a lowest energy con guration with respect to traditional MC methods. Finally, it is shown how the AB algorithm can be used as a part of the protocol to calculate the phase diagram of a rigid organic molecule with less computational effort than standard techniques. ····· 10361101958

Combustion nanoparticles from aviation and shipping

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The main motivation of this work is possible climate change caused by transport emissions. Soot particles emitted by an aircraft engine can act as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and cause contrail/cirrus clouds formation leading to radiative forcing. Ship emission residuals into relatively clean boundary layer can also act as CCN for ship track formation and thus change reflective properties of marine layer clouds. The understanding of the potential environmental effect of the transport emission is still poor mainly because of the lack in the experimental characterization of the particulate emissions. The main attention of the present work is attributed to the physico-chemical properties in particular to interaction with water. Hygroscopicity is one of the key parameters which are related to CCN activity and to the environmental effect. The experimental results show that some of the aviation and shipping emitted nanoparticle can act as CCN in the atmosphere. ····· 10361101649

Etching of wide-bandgap chemically resistant semiconductors

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) are believed to be ideal materials for the fabrication of electronic devices that can operate at high power levels, temperatures, and frequencies, because they exhibit a larger bandgap, higher breakdown electric field and higher saturated drift velocity than Si. SiC is also an attractive substrate for group III nitride-based optoelectronic devices such as blue light-emitting diodes and diode lasers. In addition, because of its exemplary chemical and mechanical properties SiC, in combination with Si, is finding wider application in sensors and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS). Furthermore, GaN and SiC can be used as a photocathode for water splitting. For device fabrication, etching is an essential step. Dry etching techniques (i.e. reactive ion, electron cyclotron and inductively coupled plasma) are mostly used. The main disadvantages of these techniques are the high costs and the possibility of creating damage in the wafer. In many applications, wet-chemical etching is an attractive alternative. However, the stability of SiC and GaN poses a problem for open-circuit etching. Electrochemical etching offers a solution. ····· 10361101527

The book describes fluidized bed gasification of biomass to generate hydrogen rich medium calorific value gas using steam as gasifying medium. Basic studies on steam biomass gasification process have been carried out in a laboratory scale bubbling fluidized bed gasifier and the endothermic heat is supplied by electrical heating. A mathematical model based on thermodynamic equilibrium has been developed to predict the behaviour of thermo-chemical fluidized bed biomass gasification. The subsequent chapters of the work has been devoted to develop a self-sustaining dual fluidized bed gasifier capable of producing medium calorific value gas. The dual bed system has two chambers bubbling bed gasifier and fast bed combustor. A part of carbon from the gasifier is combusted in the adjoining combustor and the hot bed material from the combustor is circulated back to the gasifier for supplying necessary endothermic heat. The hydrodynamic design of the dual bed system has been carried out through cold model investigation. Based on cold model data, a pilot scale hot dual fluidized bed gasifier has been designed and developed and experiments have been conducted to generate data. ····· 10361101264

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are important chemical species in combustion processes, energy, environment, health and industry. In this work, the recombination of the azulene, acenaphthene, anthracene, and pyrene PAHs ions with electrons is studied with the FlaPI (Flowing Afterglow with Photo Ions) method. The ionic species in the flowing afterglow are spatially characterized by a MS and the electron concentration is measured by means of a movable Langmuir probe. A new method L2DI (laser desorption / laser ionization) combined with the FlaPI methods developed for studying the recombination kinetics of much larger PAHs. The PAH ions concentration decay in time in function of the presence of electrons is measured. Different methods for recovering the recombination rate coefficient are assessed. A CRESU reactor is used to produce nanoparticles of PAH molecules at low temperature, which are deposited onto chosen surfaces. The samples were then analyzed ex-situ by AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) in tapping mode. This method of characterization was tested previously by analyzing small soot particles generated by a diffusion flame and deposited onto mica surfaces. ····· 10361101230

A recent approach taken to improve the efficiency of sonochemical processes and ultrasound reactors is to combine multiple transducers, operating at either the same or at different fundamental frequencies. This book investigates several different dual-frequency systems, looking at their potential advantages and limitations in ultrasonic processes, and the nature of the interaction between the different sound fields. This is ascertained through analysis of sonoluminescence and acoustic emissions, high-speed photographic imaging, cavitation bubble dynamics and interactions, and of the comparative reaction rates of selected sonochemical reactions. The influence of various parameters on the relative efficiency of the dual-frequency system is also examined. Additionally, this work sheds light on various peripheral, nevertheless highly important, issues such as the interactions between gas bubbles in the presence of electroyltes and other solutes. ····· 10361100874
