As a result, the disease is commonly diagnosed at late stages leading to a poor outcome with high mortality rates. The study showed a high level of knowledge deficit about the disease, which was evident from the poor appreciation of the risk factors and signs of the disease and high level of misconceptions and misinformation. Attitudes towards the disease were those of fear, superstitions, fatalism and stigma, which impact negatively on the outcome of the disease in Ghana. To improve breast cancer care in Ghana, the study makes two broad recommendations which include vigorous breast awareness and educational programmes, to teach and encourage Ghanaian women to adopt breast self-examination practices and to encourage health professionals to use every opportunity to examine their female patients as part of the overall clinical assessments. The second recommendation is the provision adequate facilities for diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer to patients at an affordable cost. ····· 10361610

A total of 166729 new cancer cases were registered by the Iraqi Ministry of Health during the period from 1991 to 2007. Little is known about the pattern of cancer in Iraq. The need for comprehensive knowledge about cancer forms in Iraq is mandatory to plan and establish control programs for the common cancer which may be amenable to prevention, early detection and cure. This book is providing the most comprehensive information about the pattern of cancer in Iraq. The medico-legal autopsy aims at deciding whether the death was attributed purely to the height or other factors. It also helps in ruling out the various contributing factors like drugs, alcohol and co-existing natural disease. The study of pattern of external and internal injury may together indicate the primary site of impact and height from which the fall has occurred. The determination of actual or probable anatomical site of primary impact may be useful in reconstruction of the events. Presence of multiple blunt force injuries makes it hard to differentiate between fall induced injuries and those that have been inflicted before the fall. Thus a careful study of total injury pattern is of vital importance in every case. In the difficult scenario of assessing the manner of death, meticulous autopsy in combination with visit to the scene of occurrence that includes observation of ground nature and presence of any intervening object will be of extreme help. ····· 10361353

During a fractionated course of radiotherapy, variations in patient position and in the alignment of beams will occur both intra- and inter-fractionally, and a margin for set-up error must be incorporated into the CTV-PTV margin. Errors maybe systematic or random. Systematic errors may result from incorrect data transfer from planning to dose delivery, or inaccurate placing of devices such as compensators, shields, etc. Such systematic errors can be corrected. Their etiology remains mostly undetermined: so far, only exposure to high dose therapeutic radiation has been firmly established as a risk factor, but other plausible causes include genetic syndromes, familial aggregation, and genetic polymorphisms. The clinical performance status and patient age at diagnosis are definite features associated with outcome, but recent evidences suggest that tumor s molecular traits are also major determinants of prognosis. This book aims to review and discuss how molecular determinants may affect glioma risk and patient outcome, with a very special emphasis in glioblastoma multiforme, the most common and malignant glioma subtype. To do so, Part I presents a general introduction that summarizes the classification, epidemiology, and treatment of gliomas, while devoting particular attention to potential etiological factors and molecular alterations of these tumors. Part II presents original research studies emphasizing the relevance of particular biomarkers of glioma, particularly at the levels of glioma risk and patient prognosis. ····· 10361183

Intrauterine insemination, in which laboratory-prepared sperm are inserted into the uterine cavity through a cervical catheter, is indicated in mild-moderate male factor infertility along with a number of other diagnoses. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an ART in which sperm and oocytes are retrieved and combined outside of the body where fertilization occurs, the embryos are then transferred to the uterus. Initially developed for tubal factor infertility, IVF is now indicated in a broad range of situations and is very successful. Multiple techniques are used to enable and improve ARTs including: intracytoplasmic sperm injection, gamete intrafallopian transfer, tubal embryo transfer, embryo cryopreservation, assisted hatching, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. IBD is thought to result from the interaction between genetic and environmental factors that influence the normal intestinal commensal flora to trigger an inappropriate mucosal immune response. Colonoscopy remains the gold stander for diagnosis of IBD. Wireless capsule endoscope and balloon enteroscopy show many advances in diagnosis of IBD. CT and MRI help to detect extent of disease and assess complications. Serological and fecal markers alone can not establish diagnosis of IBD but they have only a prognostic value. 5-ASA agents are the mainstay in the treatment of both CD and UC. Steroids continue to be the first choice to treat active disease. 6-mercaptopurine and azathioprine are steroid-sparing immunomodulators effective in the maintenance of remission of both CD and UC while methotrexate may be used in both induction and maintenance of CD. A community-based cross sectional study was conducted in the woreda from March 1-30, 2011. The study included 1 urban and 8 rural kebeles with a total sample size of 773 respondents and 40 discussants for four FGDs. The study revealed that the proportion of women who received ANC was 55.6%. Only 16.4% mothers delivered at health institution and only 15 % of total delivery was attended by skilled birth attendants.
