On the contrary, engaged teachers feel strong and vigorous at work, are enthusiastic and optimistic about the work they do and are very often immersed in that work. Using Utrecht (2003) Work Engagement Model and the Maslach and Leiter (1997) Model of Burnout, the study explored the effect of teacher counselor burnout on their work engagement, using a cross sectional survey of teacher counsellors. The study generated empirical evidence on the effect of burnout on the work engagement of teacher counselors within Kenyan secondary schools. There was a strong significant inverse correlation between work engagement and burnout. The regression model suggests that burnout is a significant predictor of work engagement among teacher counselors and explains 25.8% of the variation in work engagement. The findings could benefit school counselors, policymakers as well as teacher counselors and also make recommendations for future research. ····· 1036188126

The purpose of the study was about understanding interracial couples and their experiences, giving the couples perspective on their experiences, and challenging families and society to re-evaluate their attitudes towards interracial marriages. Specifically I wanted to explore marital issues such as, shared identity, how the couples handled marital conflicts, how the couples cultivated their marriage, beliefs and values the couples brought to the relationship, coping strategies, gender differentials i.e., who intermarried frequently men versus women, change in society attitudes towards these unions, therapeutic issues, and availability of support systems. The study was conducted in Botswana, Southern Africa. Nine couples participated in my study. Data was collected through the use of a theme-focused genogram, eco-map, and interview questions. Eight themes emerged from the data. Results had clinical, social and theoretical implications. ····· 1036188093

As the understanding of these concepts evolved in the scientific literature, scholars have been cautious to separate what is meant when defining both terms. Years ago, `masculine identity` was assumed to be a stable and universal set of characteristics. However, drawing on multidisciplinary research, recent theorists have been astute to reject the notion of a `masculine identity` due to its lack of scientific support and problems with prejudicial overtones. Instead, modern researchers have gravitated toward the Social Constructionism model, holding that what it means to be a `man` depends on who, where, and when you ask. As such, the studies of identity and masculinity have been divorced to some degree and progressed on separate empirical tracks. In the current study, key concepts from the current masculinity literature were explored along side new developments in the field of identity. Results show a connection between how men make decisions about their identity and their use of masculinity concepts. This research builds a case for revisiting masculinity and identity in modern social science. ····· 1036188077

There is a growing consensus in academia that personal qualities beyond academic ability might be more helpful in predicting student success, particularly in programmes that seek to prepare individuals to work in professions that recognise the importance of relationships and interactions. The business world has advocated the use of measures of emotional intelligence to aid with recruitment and selection and educators and health professionals are beginning to recognise the potential benefits of introducing similar models when selecting suitable undergraduate students. This study applied a measure of emotional intelligence to discover whether there is indeed a significant predictive relationship between emotional intelligence, attrition and attainment in nursing and midwifery education. ····· 1036187992

The overarching theme of the book is posttraumatic growth (PTG), which is defined as positive psychological changes that occur during the aftermath of traumatic events. The literature review examines the findings from longitudinal studies and explores associations between PTG and various demographic, personality, religious, cognitive, emotional, social and behavioural factors. The empirical study investigates the relationship between PTG and resilience in a sample of student paramedics. Student paramedics appear able to experience PTG, however further analysis suggested a relationship the between PTG and resilience is unlikely. The reflective account focuses on the research journey. Throughout this chapter, certain aspects of the investigation are reflected upon and the impact the completion of the project had on the main author is also considered. ····· 1036187616

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray The high incidence of rape in Western society has been vastly attributed to the prevalence of rape myth acceptance. Rape myths, as first described by Martha Burt in 1980, are prejudicial stereotyped or false beliefs about rape, rape victims, and rapists that create a climate hostile to rape victims. By blaming the victim and exonerating the perpetrator, rape myth acceptance results in denying or reducing the severity of the crime and blaming the victims for their own victimization, which works to justify certain types of rape and maintain the high rates of rape. After an examination of the existing literature on rape myth acceptance, this work shows the lack of research investigating the role of personality in rape myth acceptance and presents an original study exploring the correlates between the Big Five of personality, rape myth acceptance and victim-blaming attitudes. By revealing the undeniable role of personality in rape myth acceptance, this study aims at elucidating some of the complexities of rape myth acceptance and at urging future research to examine rape myth acceptance through the lens of personality theory in order to find new and better methods of rape prevention. ····· 1036187542

It is important to understand the socio-cultural, as well as behavioural factors that are associated with such sexual problems. The aim of the study was to explore the socio-cultural influences in decision making involving sexual behaviour among adolescents in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Social influences such as peer influence, low socio-economic status, alcohol use and lack of parental supervision were found to play a role in adolescents risky sexual behaviour. Cultural beliefs, cultural myths and social norms were identified as socio-cultural influences that endorsed issues such as gender disparities, which made adolescent mothers vulnerable. These findings point out the need to prioritize adolescents in intervention programmes in environments such as school, church, at home and community at large with emphasis on awareness and enrich adolescents knowledge on prevention of both HIV/AIDS and unplanned pregnancies. Emphasis should be on changing cultural beliefs and norms that disapprovingly influence adolescents sexual behaviour. ····· 1036187527

It is estimated that a large majority (83%) of college students use alcohol (Johnston, O Malley, Bachman, & Schulenberg, 2008). The negative consequences of alcohol consumption range broadly in both domain and degree of harm to the individual and society. Protective behavioral strategies (PBS) can be utilized to reduce the degree of negative consequences of alcohol consumption when people choose to drink. Anxiety sensitivity is the fear of the symptoms of anxiety including the fear of somatic symptoms, the fear of social consequences of anxiety, and the fear of losing control mentally (Reiss, Peterson, & Gursky, 1988). The study examined the relationships among alcohol consumption, anxiety sensitivity, PBS and the negative consequences of alcohol consumption among 706 college student drinkers in the southeastern United States. A weak positive correlation was found between anxiety sensitivity and PBS use. Amount of alcohol consumed emerged as a predictor of the negative consequences of alcohol consumption. PBS use emerged as a predictor of the negative consequences of alcohol consumption. ····· 1036187281

Coaches work with athletes on improving mental toughness because they believe it can help them to become better. However, some of them might believe that long hours of hard practice is all it takes to become mentally tough. Therefore, relaxation is often omitted in athlete s schedule. This book portrays a study that was designed to clarify the relationship between mental toughness and relaxation activities as well as sleep. The main intent was to determine whether athletes who were more mentally tough engaged in more relaxation activities and sleep compared to athletes who were less mentally tough. In addition, the relationship was examined across athletes at different skill levels as it was hypothesized that athletes at higher skill level would (a) be more mentally tough, (b) engage more in relaxation activities, and (c) get more sleep than athletes at lower skill levels. The results confirmed some of the hypotheses and thus may indicate the importance of relaxation activities and sleep in sports. ····· 1036187180

Written from a social constructionist perspective, the analysis draws mainly on the psychological, sociological, and historical literature on and relevant to American men. It is also based on interviews, conducted in 1994, of 10 fairly representative participants in the Chicago branch of the New Warriors (since renamed the ManKind Project). The central thesis is that the mythopoetic men`s movement represents a mass therapeutic response to the contemporary crisis of male identity and to two problems of traditional male experience, namely, fathers` relative underinvolvement in child rearing and men`s relative lack of emotional intimacy in interpersonal relationships, especially with each other. ····· 1036186930

A broad range of variables have been found to be predictive of outcome after brain injury, but the nature of the relationship between predictors and outcome is unclear. This work aimed to include the majority of variables that have been reported as predictors when predicting and explaining multidimensional long term outcome. 131 brain injured participants that were over 10 years post injury, were interviewed and neuropsychologically assessed. Results suggested that long term outcome can be good in this population, specifically in terms of quality of life and emotional adjustment. However, other outcomes, such as employment and community integration, were more severely compromised. Predictors varied between dimensions, however, good self-concept, low neuroticism and high self-efficacy were found to be the most consistent significant variables when predicting all outcomes, and they also contributed the most to predictive models. ····· 1036186614
