Crop yields in the Pothwar plateau, Punjab Province Pakistan mostly depend upon the availability of rain water and fertilizer applied nutrients. Erratic rainfall, run-off losses, erosion, imbalance and low rate of nutrient application results very very low yield than the potential yield. Instead of conventional practices of farming, higher yields of wheat and maize can be obtained by integrated approach of soil water conservation and fertility management practices. After characterization of eroded lands of Pothwar plateau, water conservation and fertility management practices were adopted according to severity of erosion and fertility status of that lands. Profitability analysis of rain water conservation and soil fertility management for wheat-maize cropping system gave higher net income than conventional farmer`s practices. While in dry land, higher sorghum yields and water use efficiency was obtained with integrated nutrient management and mulch application. This study will help students, teachers and professions who are involved with research in soil and water conservation. Role of Gap Junction in Retina Circadian Rhythms

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The hypothesis was gap junction communication also plays a role in coordinating transcript rhythms of the circadian-regulated genes in chicken retina. To test this hypothesis, a chicken embryonic retinal explant culture was established. The robust, self-sustaining, and light-entrainable iodopsin and Arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase (AANAT) mRNA rhythms were observed under different lighting conditions. This observation supports use of the explant cultures to test effects of gap junction blockers on gene expression rhythms in retina. The two reversible gap junction blockers, 18-alpha glycyrrhetnic acid-3-hemisuccinate and 18-beta glycyrrhetnic acid, were applied to the explant cultures. Both blockers produced a rapid and persistent reduction in iodopsin and AANAT mRNA levels. Upon removal of the blockers, the transcript rhythms of both genes reappeared within a 24 hrs. These data suggest that the change in iodopsin mRNA levels was not due to disruption of function or phase of the circadian oscillators driving the transcript rhythms. The blockers may either uncouple the circadian oscillators and the transcription of these two genes or alter stability of both transcripts. ····· 10361100392

The effect of lasers of 3 wavelengths in the visible region - 476, 488 & 514 nm on mitotic & meiotic cell divisions, growth, yield & activity of specific enzymes were studied in two taxonomically diverse plant species - Allium cepa L. & Vicia faba. The effect of laser exposures was compared with the effect of two physical mutagens (gamma & UV radiations) and two chemical mutagens (Ethyl Methane Sulphonate and Hydroxyl amine EMS & HA). The study indicated that lasers could be mutagenic causing aberrations in the mitotic & meiotic cell divisions & producing changes in the growth & yield of the plants. Lasers of higher wavelengths 488 & 514 nm caused aberrations in the early stages of mitotic cell division whereas lasers of lower wavelengths (476 nm) caused more aberrations in later stages. Laser exposure of 488 nm wavelength at power density 400 mW induced higher mitotic & meiotic aberrations & also induced higher pollen sterility than lasers of 476 & 514 nm. The frequency of mitotic aberrations induced by lasers was less than that caused by gamma-irradiation but comparable to that induced by EMS & HA. Lasers also stimulated growth & yield. Lasers cause more mutation than UV. ····· 10361100279

Discharge of heavy metals from metal processing industries is known to have unfavorable effects on the environment. Conventional treatment technologies for removal of heavy metals from aqueous solution are not economical and generate huge quantity of toxic chemical sludge. Biosorption of heavy metals is an innovative and alternative technology for removal of these pollutants from aqueous solution. The study was aimed to quantify the Cr (VI) sorption ability of Baker s yeast at the best operating conditions. The optimum pH for biosorption of Cr (VI) ions was found to be 3.0. The percentage removal Cr (VI) ions from solution was decreased with increase in concentration from 10 to 50 mg/L whereas, uptake capacity was increased with increase in concentration of Cr (VI) ions from 10 to 50 mg/L. The percentage removal and biosorption capacity increased with increases time from 3-24 hrs then become constant. Uptake capacity q (mg/g) of Cr (VI) ions decreased with increased biosorbent dose. Higher value of correlation coefficient (R2 0.90) indicates that adsorption data are best fitted in both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms model. ····· 10361100174

Functions of orthologs may diverge during evolution either due to alteration of cis-regulatory elements or changes in the coding regions. The STMADS11 superclade MADS-box genes play diverse roles in plants implicated in vegetative development, phase transition, floral meristem identity, male fertility and inflated calyx. Phylogenetic reconstruction revealed three distinct clades comprising MPF1-like, MPF2-like and SVP-like. Expression analysis indicated inter and intra-clade expression divergence with regard to their expression in vegetative and floral tissues. The MADS-domain HCTs were predominantly located in the promoter regions. These MADS-domain HCTs are located in the vicinity of the TSS seemed to be involved in regulating expression in sepal, particularly in case of MPF2-like clade. Phylogenetic foot printing of -2kb STMADS11 promoter sequences highlighted two conserve regions immediately upstream of TSS site and proximal to TSS. These regions have evolved under negative selection. A comprehensive understanding of the role of STMADS11 cis-regulatory elements in expression divergence is though enigmatic, this study highlights the significance of cis-regulatory elements. ····· 10361100049

EPS8 and E3B1 Proteins in Human Cancers

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
EPS8 protein has been known to be involved in the signaling pathway of different cancers, and protein E3B1 is considered to be a downstream target for EPS8. By participating in the formation of various macromolecular complexes, E3B1 has been found to mediate a number of signal pathways related to cancer cell proliferation. We carried out expression analysis studies of EPS8 in esophageal, stomach and lung carcinomas, and observed increased expression of the protein in esophageal and stomach cancers, whereas, the observed expression of this protein in lung cancers was fairly equal. Likewise, the expression of E3B1 was studied in esophageal, breast, gastro-eophageal junction, stomach and colorectal cancers, and observed a consistent decrease in all these cancers except for breast cancers where no change in expression was observed. Our data supports a novel cancer-specific role of the two proteins in the mentioned cancers and suggest EPS8 and E3B1 could have a pivotal role in the progression of these cancers. ····· 1036199945
