Recent Trends in Microbial Biotechnology

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Microbiology is the study of microorganisms that is the organisms which are of microscopic dimensions. These organisms are too small to be clearly perceived by the unaided human eye. If an object has a diameter of less than 0.1 mm, the eye can not perceive (or more correctly resolve) it at all, and very little detail can be perceived in an object with a diameter of I mm. Roughly speaking organisms with a diameter of 1 mm or less are microorganisms and fall into the broad domain of microbiology. Since most microorganisms are only a few thousandths of a millimeter in size. They can only be seen with the aid of microscope. As a direct consequence of the invisibility of microbes to the naked eye and the need for special techniques to study them. ····· 10361102648

In this research, Dr Mohamed Dawo shows how cross breeding common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) of different growth habits (determinate and indeterminate) can result in producing genotypes capable of far out-yielding their parents. The research shows that indeterminate bean genotypes generally produce more seeds but smaller in size and the determinate ones produce bigger but fewer seeds. Key features of this research include: 1. Maize-bean intercropping using Nancis maize, a fodder plant and Carioca (a Mesoamerican Type III indeterminate Phaseolus bean) at different sowing dates. 2. The effect of planting density of maize and beans on final yield. 3. The yield and quality of fresh and ensiled plant material from intercropped maize (Zea mays) and common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). 4. Below ground interactions of maize and beans in a fertilized and unfertilized area, showing how nodule number and the nodule mass per bean plant and mycorrhizal colonization in the maize roots is much higher in the unfertilized area than the fertilized one and why. 5. Analysing fresh and ensiled plant material for their nutritional value as animal feed for livestock. ····· 10361102594

The experimental treatments were laid down in a split plot design with three replications to determine the effects of sowing date, seeding rate& varieties on the yield & yield components of rice. Three sowing date treatments were assigned to main plots while factorial combinations of three seeding rates & three rice varieties (X-Jigna, Gumara and Superica- 1) were randomly allocated to subplots. Variety X- Jigna produced significantly higher number of panicles/0.5 m row than Gumara & Superica-1, whereas Superica-1 & X-Jigna produce comparable number of spiklets per panicle which was significantly greater than that of Gumara. The third sowing date gave the highest harvest index than the other two sowing dates. Compared to the other varieties X-Jigna exhibited the highest harvest index. Similarly 75kg/ha seeding rate gave the highest harvest index compared with the remaining two seeding rates. Based upon the present study findings it may be tentatively recommended that variety Supereica-1 should be planted 10 days after the farmers planting time. On the 3rd sowing date, both X-Jigna & Gumara resulted in higher grain yields at a seeding rate of 75kg/ha. ····· 10361102575

Proteomics is the most promising field to address any biological queries more accurately. The word proteome is derived from PROTEins expressed by a genOME, and it refers to all the proteins produced by an organism, much like the genome is the entire set of genes. Proteomic technologies play an important role in drug discovery, diagnostics and molecular medicine because of the link between genes, proteins and disease. As researchers study defective proteins that cause particular diseases with the help of advanced technologies, their findings will help to develop new drugs that either alter the shape of a defective protein or mimic a missing one. In the current study, technology behind proteome study is elaborately discussed and a few fields of the proteomics` applications have been addressed. ····· 10361102502

An important property of sound is its variation as a function of time. This variation of acoustic properties overtime is important in analyzing the meaning of a sound. In spite of its perceptual importance, much is still unknown of how temporal information is analyzed and represented in the auditory system. Normal temporal processing is important for us to be able to understand speech in quiet and in background noise. Decline in the temporal processing abilities specifically gap detection in noise with the age is well documented in the literature. However, less attention has been paid to effect of age on other temporal process and its relation to speech perception. The present study was undertaken to document effect of age on different temporal process in normal hearing listeners from 17-70 years of age.Temporal processes that were measured were modulation detection, backward masking, duration discrimination, duration pattern and gap detection.Apart from this speech perception in noise and speech perception with vocoded signal was also measured. Natural products, especially those produced by edible and medicinal plant species, are currently under special investigation as food additives due to their usefulness, accessibility and non-toxic nature. The present study was designed to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of Psidium guajava L. leaves. P. guajava exhibited a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity since it was active against all Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria and fungi thus supporting folkloric use in the treatment of some infectious diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. A strong correlation was observed between antioxidant activity and total phenol content. Among the different solvent extracts and fractions, the acetone extract was the most potent extract, even better than that of the standard. The results obtained indicate the strong antioxidant properties of the Psidium guajava which may be attributed to the presence of high phenolic content. Therefore, it is worthwhile to consider the utilization of this plant for the production of functional food ingredients or phytochemicals for medicinal exploration. ····· 10361102326

Nasal route for drug administration has an advantage of introducing the drug directly into the systemic circulation without passing through the liver so it eliminates the first pass effect. In addition to its high absorptive surface, rich circulation which increases both rate and extend of drug absorption. Bioadhesive gel is an ideal dosage form for the nasal route as it keeps the drug in contact with the nasal mucosa for prolonged time by decreasing the nasal mucocillary clearance so elongates the nasal residence time allowing for increased absorption and increased bioavailability. Bioadhesive suppositories ensure the adhesion and placement of the suppositories in the lower part of the rectum. The aim of this work is trying to increase Verapamil HCl bioavailability by avoiding its first pass effect in a rapid manner this is achieved by formulating bioadhesive nasal gels formulae and bioadhesive suppository formulae. ····· 10361102101

The objective of present study was to improve broiler performance in high fiber poultry diet by increasing availability of metabolizable energy (ME) to the birds. The fiber or non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) cannot be digested by the endogenous enzymes of poultry and can have anti-nutritive effects. These NSPs absorb large amount of water and cause an increase in intestinal viscosity which results in sticky droppings problem. To solve this problem, enzyme preparation (Natuzyme) composed of xylanase, -glucanase, - amylase, phytase, pectinase, protease and cellulase is added in diets containing high fiber and low energy. ····· 10361102089

Urea treated wheat straw ensiled with CSL on an average increased two-fold wheat straw nitrogen. It has also increased feed intake, DM and NDF degradations and their ruminal disappearance rates. The concentrations of total ruminal VFA and acetate were also higher in animals fed CSL diets than those fed diets without CSL. Thus, the urea treatment of wheat straw ensiled with CSL not only improved its nutritional worth but its NPN is also more effectively utilized by animals than urea treated wheat straw ensiled in the absence of CSL. Feeding of urea treated wheat straw ensiled with 9% CSL had no adverse effect on the milk yield and its composition. However, digestibility and ruminal data from short term trials are considered reliable, but lactation performance should be tested in continuous lactation trial (s) for long enough time to determine actual effects of formulating diets using fairly high (65%) level of urea treated wheat straw ensiled with CSL on milk yield and its composition, body weight loss and feed efficiency. Therefore, more information is needed before these diets should be recommended for use by the dairy farming community. ····· 10361101761

EFFECT OF STRAIN AND STIFFNESS ON MATRIX REMODELLING GENES

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The detail of how mechanical forces are transmitted to cells is poorly understood at present and represents a key missing link in Tissue Engineering. As cells attach to the fibrils in fibroblast-seeded 3D collagen scaffolds they generate contractile forces to levels, which depend on cell type, attachment, density, growth factors and matrix stiffness. The aim here was to use external applied strain to increase matrix stiffness in collagen constructs. Embedded resident cells (from three different sites) were then subjected to specific mechanical loading regimes in scaffolds of increasing stiffness and matrix remodelling genes quantified as markers of mechanoregulatory cellular response. A strong co-relation between substrate stiffness, mechanical loading and regulation of key ECM turnover genes was identified. This knowledge is crucial to successful tissue engineering outcomes. The differential lineage dependent response is a key finding and will have to be tailored depending on cell source and specific outcomes desired. ····· 10361101642
