The quality of life on earth is depends on overall quality of the environment. Due to unregimented population increased and industrial development added millions of tones of hazardous wastes to the soil and water during the 20th century. For centuries, we believe that atmospheric, terrestrial and aquatic systems were sufficient to absorb and breakdown wastage from population centre, industry and farming. At present, there are two fundamental problems: (i) how do we dispose of these large quantities of wastage that are continually being processed (ii) How do we remove the toxic compounds that have been accumulating at dump site, in the soil and in the water system over the large few decades This book will be introduce to the students about the environmental problems and solution of these problems by he help of microorganisms, improvement and development of new techniques for removal of the pollutant from the environment. ····· 10361113590

Cartilage is a connective tissue integral to the functioning of joints. A promising step in treating defective cartilage is the implantation of autologous bone marrow stem cells at the defect site. When carried by an appropriate scaffold to provide chondrogenic signals, bone marrow stem cells can differentiate into cartilage. Previous studies show that cells seeded in hydrogels without the inclusion of fibers experience cell-mediated contraction that leads swiftly to cell mediated death the fibers are also considered key to improving mechanical strength of hydrogels. However, after three weeks in vitro in a collagen gel 3-D matrix, cells seeded in gels without fibers did not have significantly different cell viability percentages than cells seeded in gels with flat fibers or round fibers. Additionally, compressive testing at 10% strain indicated that the equilibrium stresses of gels with no fibers was significantly higher than equilibrium stresses of gels containing flat fibers. Therefore, the inclusion of fibers and the use of compressive stimulation conditioning may not be any more effective than simple tissue engineered constructs of cell-seeded collagen gels. ····· 10361113557

Response of late-sown wheat to nitrogen

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Wheat crop being the world`s leading cereal crop has the major role in the hunger reduction from the mushrooming world population. With the development of high yielding varieties and new technologies, the production and productivity since late 1970s has increased significantly up to this date. Still there are various yield limiting factors and one of them is the late-sowing condition especially in the agro-zones where rice-wheat system prevails. In the recent context of climate change and global warming, the production practices of many crops have been pushed to gradually change. In the rice-wheat system of cropping pattern, late sowing of wheat is becoming a common phenomenon and for any reason of late sowing, suitable variety/genotype selection with proper fertilization especially only nitrogen management can be the boon to greatly boost up the production and net returns from wheat cultivation. This book is especially important to those who are willing to conduct research activity in the field of crop science & wheat agronomy, farmers, students, academicians and development professionals. ····· 10361113413

Natural opportunities and Parkinson`s disease

Parkinson`s disease is a progressive, neurodegenerative disorder that affects movement, muscle control, and balance as well as numerous other functions. It is currently believed that Parkinson s disease is caused not only by genetic, but also, to a large extent, by environmental factors of which pesticides may play an important role. One of the pesticides which may be involved in the development of Parkinson s disease is rotenone. where rotenone is a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial complex I and caused oxidative damage which is strongly implied in the neurodegeneration of dopaminergic neurons. The principal goal of this book is to evaluate the ameliorative effect of some medicinal plants as pumpkin seed oil, grape seed extract and ginkgo extract against rotenone induced neurotoxicity in adult male albino rats. This book clearly demonstrated that the selected medicinal plant extracts could play a potent role in management of Parkinson`s disease. The protective effect of the different studied plants was in the following order : Ginkgo Grape seed Pumpkin seed. ····· 10361113305

Grasses are the plants (C4) which contain most extensive, much needed and familiar component of range vegetation especially in extreme climates of the range areas. Grasses are more easily accessible, better in taste and quicker in digestion than shrubs and trees. Ecosystems having rather less extreme climate have typical perennial grasses. These grasses have a quality of quick resprouting because they have special ecological features and moderate grazing. Natural flora of Pakistan contains some very good forage grasses. Need of time is to propagate them through artificial seeding and stump planting. This study was conducted to ascertain the nutritional value, mineral profile, gross energy and in situ digestion kinetics of 10 different irrigated grasses (Malai grass, Barru grass, Mott grass, Khas Khas grass or Vetiver, Lemon grass, Dhaman grass grass, Kallar grass, Rhodes grass, Khabal grass or Bermuda grass and Swank grass having botanical names as Panicum antidotale, Sorghum halepense, Pennisetum purpureum, Vetiveria zizanioides, Cymbopogon citrates, Cenchrus ciliaris, Leptochloa fusca, Chloris gayana, Cynodon dactylon and Panicum colunum respectively). ····· 10361113049

····· 10361112663

Time-Shift Technique for Particle Characterization in Sprays

für 129.00€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The characterization of droplets and particles in a flow is of primary interest for many industrial processes. Not infrequently, well-known and commercialized measurement techniques must be improved and developed, since they are incapable of covering the very wide spectrum of applications. The goal of this work is the development of a measurement technique for the characterization of individual transparent and non-transparent particles and droplets as well as suspension or emulsion droplets in a flow. In the present study, the already known time-shift technique has been further developed and its optical configuration simplified. The improvements allow the time-shift technique to perform measurements in situations with limited optical access and also realize a highly compact design of the instrument for industrial use. Furthermore, a variety of optical configurations have been discussed and their advantages and disadvantages elucidated. The range of applications and the physical limitations of the time-shift technique in respect to the optical configurations and optical properties of particles and droplets to be characterized are quantified. In this study new validation criteria have been developed in order to use the time-shift technique for the reliable and simultaneous measurement of the size and the velocity as well as the relative refractive index of individual particles or droplets in a flow. The example measurements demonstrate the reliability and the accuracy of the time-shift technique for characterizing transparent particles and suspension or emulsion droplets. ····· 10361111385

····· 10361107243

Function Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) provides recording of humain brain activity at high spatial resolution. It measures the changes in blood dynamics related to the neural activity. While most fMRI analysis methods assume a very simple linear relationship between neural activity and this hemodynamic response, it is not clear whether actually more physiologically-based models are needed to extract exact information, or allow complex analysis such as the fusion between fMRI and EEG data. This is the general question asked in this book. On the one hand, a new methodology is set for the analysis of fMRI data and for EEG-fMRI fusion, based on physiological models. On the other hand, this methodology, and more experimental investigations based on Optical Imaging recording of the cerebral blood flow, volume, and oxygenation, are used to determine which models should be used, and whether their linear approximation is acceptable. The critical physiological question treated in this work, but also the rich developments of algorithms, such as fMRI-EEG fusion and red blood cell tracking, make it an important contribution to brain imaging science. ····· 10361102728
