····· 10361116725

Risk Factors of Female Breast Cancer in Kelantan Malaysia

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in women. There was an increasing trend of breast cancer incidence and mortality in Malaysia because of the increasing life-expectancy, unhealthy diet and life-styles and increasing prevalence of reproductive risk factors. This study was aimed to identify the profile and risk factors of breast cancer. A matched case-control study was carried out at hospitals in Kelantan. We interview 147 cases and 147 controls. The mean (SD) age of breast cancer patients was 46.3 (9.3) years. The most common histological type was infiltrative ductal carcinoma (73%). The presentation at stage III and VI was 60%. The profile of breast cancers in this study such as age and stage distributions was different from other western studies. Factors contributing towards increased risk of breast cancer were nulliparity, having one or two children, family history of breast cancer and ever taken oral contraceptives. This study reconfirmed that similar risk factors identified in western population were responsible for the occurrence of breast cancer in Kelantan. It also supported the theory that breast cancer occurrence was related to oestrogen exposure and familial factors. ····· 10361116238

Modulation of HIV Co-Receptor Expression on Cells by Anti-Virals

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
It is the cell surface molecule receptor CD4 and the two chemokine co-receptors CCR5 and CXCR4 that allow the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) to enter and infect target cells these are the direct or indirect targets of anti-retroviral drugs (ARV) currently being tested in clinical trials. No characterisation of the potential effect of these drugs on the level of expression of the receptor and/or co-receptors on the cell surface has, as of yet been performed. This is despite the existence of heterologous modulation of at least CCR5 by compounds which are structurally similar to some ARV drugs. We investigated whether candidate microbicides could modulate the expression of CD4, CCR5 and/or CXCR4 on the cell surface membrane of various cell types. Cell lines expressing different or unknown levels of co-receptors were incubated with entry inhibitors, reverse transcriptase inhibitors and protease inhibitors in a time course mode before assessment by flow cytometry. ····· 10361116168

A cross sectional study was conducted among 404 female nurses working in a teaching hospital in Kelantan, Malaysia to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its associated factors. Data were collected using a proforma consisted of sociodemographic data, occupational history, physical activity and DASS 42 questionnaire (validated Malay version). Anthropometric, blood pressure measurement and fasting venous blood were taken from each subject for fasting lipid profile and blood sugar. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 24.3% (95% CI: 20.1, 28.4). The significant factors associated with metabolic syndrome were total duration of employment (years) and one way commuting time to work (minutes). High prevalence of metabolic syndrome indicates that nurses are occupational high risk group for CHD. Occupational factors which significantly associated with metabolic syndrome in this study are total duration of employment and one way commuting time to work, however there is no significant relationship between metabolic syndrome and shift work as well as self-perceived job stress. ····· 10361116022

TRANSCUTANEOUS BILIRUBINOMETRY IN NEONATES

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Most of newborn infants develop hyperbilirubinemia in the first week of life. Moreover, jaundice is the most common cause of neonatal rehospitalization. Excessive hyperbilirubinemia may lead to irreversible bilirubin-induced neurologic dysfunction. Early identification of infants with high bilirubin levels requiring intervention is the key issue in the management of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Transcutaneous measurement of bilirubin concentration is an objective, noninvasive method, which provides real-time results and avoids pain due to blood sampling. It is a screening test for identifying the need for laboratory assessment of total serum bilirubin concentration. This book provides overview of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and its management, and possibilities of noninvasive assessment of jaundice. The presented study evaluates the accuracy of a bilirubinometer with two optical paths in European newborn infants, and assesses the effect of gestational age, phototherapy and measurement site on reliability of transcutaneous measurements. Reproductive health concerns: jeopardised age groups

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Preservation of reproductive health is critically important, meaning the ability of fecundity, uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery, the appliance of proper contraception and the recurrence of fertility after stopping contraception. The avoidance of abortion, ectopic pregnancy and pathologic conceiving can contribute to reproductive health. Approximately 910,000 conceptions befall worldwide each year, of which about the half are unplanned and about one quarter are unwanted. In total, 53 million pregnancies end with termination each year. In western countries, the time of pregnancy has been shifting towards advanced ages due to career and financial reasons. Furthermore, the rate of unwanted pregnancy among teenagers has significantly increased recently. The age groups at the highest risk concerning reproductive health are: teens and women with advanced age (women over 40 and primiparous women over 35). Generally, both groups are often unaware of their fertility during the menstrual cycle and it is typical that they do not have any regular sexual activity. Their ages lead to difficulties in fitting contraceptives. ····· 10361115897

The dimorphic opportunistic pathogen,Candida albicans is normally a commensal organism in humans, but in immunocompromised individual,as in AIDS,organ transplant, diabetes, cancer patients,it results in systemic or invasive mycoses.Continuous exposure to antifungals has led to the emergence of drug resistance by a phenomenon termed as Multidrug Resistance (MDR).Much progress has been accomplished towards identification and understanding of drug resistance mechansisms that could make better antifungal agents. However, the need for understanding novel molecular mechanisms for MDR is indisputable in these clinically challenging infections by C.albicans. Although the importance of iron during C.albicans infection is known, mechanisms correlating about the influence of iron availability on MDR in this fungus are not reported yet. Since, MDR is a multifactorial phenomenon, iron mediated novel MDR mechanisms described in this book for pathogenic fungi clearly hold promise to be new potential drug regulatory mechanism so that it may facilitate the development of better antifungal strategies and thereby efficiently control the human infectious diseases. ····· 10361115576

Chronic kidney disease has a continuously increasing prevalence, associated with multiple comorbidities, that in an increased proportion of patients shows a progressive evolution. Knowing the factors involved in the progression of the chronic kidney disease can impose different therapeutic strategies. The final common pathway for almost all forms of renal disease is renal fibrosis. In order to better understand the progression of chronic kidney disease, it is mandatory to present the mechanisms of fibrogenesis, both at glomerular and at the tubulo-interstitial level, and also to find out which treatment targets can be used in order to prevent or reverse this process. After showing data regarding fibrosis, the following chapters will present the main factors involved in the progression of renal disease: arterial hypertension and the renin- angiotensin- aldosterone system, proteinuria, metabolic disorders, anemia, smoking, salt intake and the protective effect of alkali therapy. For an evidence- based approach the results from the main clinical trials that involve these progression factors are also be briefly presented. ····· 10361115502

Neural tube defect (NTD) is not uncommon in Bangladesh. Among the nutritional factors related to neural tube defects, in addition to Folate, low level of serum zinc has been described by many authors in the recent time. This study was conducted with the objective of finding the relationship of serum zinc with NTD in a Bangladeshi population. This case control study was conducted between in BSMMU, Dhaka. Newborns with neural tube defects and their mothers were considered as cases and normal babies and their mothers were taken as controls. Mothers taking zinc supplements in any part of pregnancy were excluded from the study. Venous blood specimens from mothers and newborns were obtained at or within one week of delivery. Serum zinc concentration was determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. Low level of serum zinc in the mothers and newborns were found to be associated with neural tube defects, which is consistent with some other studies. However, it is also evident that some other factors (maternal parity etc) could significantly be associated with this defect. To confirm these findings, a further study with a larger sample size is recommended. ····· 10361115399

Acromioclavicular separations are one of the most common shoulder injuries seen in young athletes. They usually result as a direct blow to the shoulder. Several ligaments stabilize the clavicle to the scapula. The anterior, posterior, inferior, and superior acromioclavicular ligaments stabilize the clavicle to the acromion, with the superior ligament being most important. The coracoclavicular ligaments, the conoid and trapezoid, are strong ligaments which stabilize the clavicle to the coracoid process of the scapula. Separations are divided into 6 types (Rockwood, 1984), and treatment is decided upon on the basis of the type of separation. ····· 10361115392

Human immunodeficiency virus related kidney disease is one of the leading causes of death and affects predominantly people of black descen. A cohort study was carried out at the Nylon District Hospital Douala, Cameroon to investigate the Kidney function trends amongst HIV seropositive individuals. Kidney function tests like serum urea, serum creatinine, creatinine clearance, proteinuria and urine chemistry was measured amongst 329 participants amongst whom 30.4% were HIV negative and 69.6% were HIV positive. The age range of the study population was 18 to 60 years. There were 94(28.6%) males and 235 (71.5%) females. The percentage of HIV seropositivity was higher in females than in males. Although, Serum creatinine, creatinine clearance and proteinuria were significantly higher in the control group than in the HIV infected subjects, these values were not indicative of renal pathology. Considering only HIV positive individuals the mean serum creatinine was significantly higher in the Antiretoviral treatment (ART) naïve group when compared to those who were already on ART. These findings indicate that renal function is not affected by the seropositivity status of individuals. ····· 10361115222
