According to register data mortality rate was 38-fold higher among cases than controls. The risk for violent or accidental death was increased. Positive result for PCR was considered when there was presence of this amplified target sequence in both primer pairs F1,R2 and F3,R4. A statistical diagnostic test revealed that the PCR has a sensitivity of 90.9% and a specificity of 94.7% to detect fungal pathogen in microbial keratitis.
