Eugenol and its derivatives against growth and pathogenicity of Candida

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Candida is an opportunistic commensal of the human oral, gastrointestinal, vaginal, cutaneous and mucosal surfaces. Risk factors that increase incidence of Candida infections are associated with compromised immunity. The currently available drugs have low efficacy, high toxicity and frequently lead to drug resistance. There is thus a critical need to develop more effective therapies to deal with such infections and natural products offer a safer alternative. Another useful strategy would be to improve the efficacy of the existing antifungal drugs using combinational therapy. Plant essential oils possess a broad spectrum of antimicrobial properties due to the presence of bioactive natural molecules. Eugenol, methyl eugenol, thymol and carvacrol are four such natural products. The present study is an attempt to examine the antifungal and antioxidant activity of these structurally related compounds. Combinational studies were also performed to investigate the use of chemo-sensitization by eugenol and derivatives to augment the efficacy of conventional antifungal drugs. Present study encourages the use of eugenol and its derivatives for the treatment and prevention of candidiasis. ····· 10361135418

Progress in phytopathogenic bacteria

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Phytopathogenic bacteria contribute to a world-wide crop loss of roughly 12-15 % annually. Plant pathogenic bacteria impact innumerable and valuable agricultural crops, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damage each year. Plant pathogenic bacteria lead to hunger disasters of great part of populations. Basic knowledge of the diseases of plants and their cause are therefore important for everyone handling foods. Pathogenic bacteria affecting plant health are a major and chronic threat to food production and ecosystem stability worldwide. These bacteria are highly specialized to circumvent plant defenses and to efficiently invade tissues. As a result of infection process, nutrient materials are elaborated which the pathogen is able to utilize. Once invasion of host tissues takes place, secondary responses are initiated in the plant and constitute manifestations of the disease symptoms. One current area of the priority in the field of plant-pathogen interactions is the identification and characterization of pathogen. Understanding their evolution is paramount to establishing and effecting practical disease management strategies to reduce or prevent their reproduction and spread ····· 10361134442

Production of bio-based microbial polyhydroxyalkanoates

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) is a type of biodegradable polymer derived from microbial fermentation. It has gained much attention as a potential substitute for some petrochemical-based polymers because of its similar material properties. PHA serves as intracellular energy storage material and the key enzyme involved in PHA biosynthesis is PHA synthase (PhaC). The life cycle of PHA is sustainable since it is primarily produced from renewable bio-based carbon sources. Global consumption of PHA is still a challenge due to the high production cost involved. Ongoing researches often include identification of cheap and renewable carbon feedstock and bacterial strains exhibiting PhaC with broad substrate specificity and ability to synthesize high concentrations of PHA. This work devotes such interest in studying the potentials of a natural PhaC belonging to the strain Chromobacterium sp. USM2. The PhaC of this strain exhibited high activity and the ability to incorporate co-monomers of 3-hydroxyvalerate and 3-hydroxyhexanoate. PHA terpolymers with interesting polymeric properties were produced using crude palm kernel oil as the main carbon source and addition of precursor substrates. ····· 10361134401

The persistent exposure of bacterial strains to a multitude of beta-lactams has led to overproduction and mutation of Beta-lactamases. These -lactamases are capable of hydrolyzing penicillins, broad-spectrum cephalosporins, monobactams, cephamycins, carbapenems, in addition to other classes of antimicrobial agents. Thus, these new -lactamases are called as extended-spectrum- -lactamases (ESBLs), AmpC -lactamases and carbapenemases. In Iraq, little attention has been paid to the genetic factors controlling production of AmpC and carbapenemases by Gram-negative bacteria. The nematode Caenorhabditis elegans was used as an infection model to screen a random plasposon mutagenesis collection of 2500 mutants, derived from either Burkholderia cenocepacia K56-2 or J2315. This work focussed on the study of the P4A1 mutant derived from B. cenocepacia K56-2, carrying a Tn5 insertion interrupting the pbr gene, encoding a putative protein 50% identical to the stringent response regulator SocE of Myxococcus xanthus. Upstream of pbr, we identified two putative genes encoding proteins 97% and 91% identical, respectively, to the PhzD and PhzF from Pseudomonas chlororaphis, involved in phenazine biosynthesis. The sequencing analysis of the chromosomal regions flanking the Tn5 interrupted genes in three attenuated mutants derived from B. cenocepacia J2315, showed that the plasposon insertion occurred, respectively, in a 5S rRNA gene, in the region between the 5S rRNA encoding gene and the 23S rRNA encoding gene, or in a putative gene, encoding a conserved hypothetical protein of unknown function, exhibiting a significant structural similarity to the LysR family of transcription regulators. ····· 10361133365

The determination of cell population, immune responses (cell and humoral mediated), FCR, overall mortality, weight of lymphoid organs etc. are good indicators of any stress conditions which may affect the broiler performance. From the findings of this research study,it was concluded that the stress factors like temperature, stocking density, feed deprivation, water restriction and light have adverse effects on the humoral and cellular immune responses of the birds. The stressed birds possessing low antibody titers are more vulnerable to challenge with the virulent strain of NDV virus birds. These stress factors did not have any effect on the overall hematology of the bird except the hetrophil/lymphocytes ratios. Moreover, the stressed birds have lesser functional lymphoid organs compared to non-stressed chickesns.Anti-stressor including Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Glucose showed positive effect on stressed birds body weight and FCR.Recommended floor space, light, temperature, Feed and Water should be provided to the broiler chicks,in view of increased cost of production in Pakistan. ····· 10361133344

The immune system is the body`s defense against infectious organisms and other invaders. Through a series of steps called the immune response, the immune system attacks organisms and substances that invade body systems and cause disease. The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body. The cells involved are white blood cells, or leukocytes, which come in two basic types that combine to seek out and destroy disease-causing organisms or substances. When antigens (foreign substances that invade the body) are detected, several types of cells work together to recognize them and respond. These cells trigger the B lymphocytes to produce antibodies, specialized proteins that lock onto specific antigens. Once produced, these antibodies continue to exist in a person`s body, so that if the same antigen is presented to the immune system again, the antibodies are already there to do their job. So if someone gets sick with a certain disease, like chickenpox, that person typically doesn`t get sick from it again. ····· 10361132927
