While investigations of the K and B systems have and will continue to play a central role in this field of research, in depth examinations of the D mesons sector have yet to be performed with enough precision, leaving a gap in our knowledge. This book describes a search for CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed neutral D decays to two charged pions or kaons performed using the proton-antiproton collisions recorded at the Fermilab`s TeVatron collider by the CDF experiment during February 2002 and January 2010. The result is the current most accurate determination of CP-violating asymmetries in these decays and represents a pioneering measurement of high precision CP violation in the charm sector at hadron colliders that has been of inspiration for the similar studies which are now ongoing at the CERN`s Large Hadron Collider. ····· 1036120664

As the ions drift upward along geomagnetic flux tubes, they move from collision-dominated (ion barosphere) to collision less (ion exosphere) regions. A transition layer is embedded between these two regions where the ion characteristics change rapidly. So, this thesis deals with modeling of major ions outflow in the polar cap at altitudes higher than 400km. Different ion outflow models are numerical investigated and the pros and cons of these models are discussed. Observations are crucial for model validations. In this work we have used Akebono Satellite observations, which showed that between 5000 and 9000km altitudes H+ and 0+ can have higher outflow velocities in the day-side region that on the night-side. classical polar wind model cannot explain fully these observations. Two famous mathematicians, Von Neumann and R. D. Richtmyer, working at Los Alamos, addressed the issue by including an artificial viscosity to smooth the shock transition. In general, numerical solutions of hydrodynamic problems make use of two different grid points to represent the relevant variables, namely the Eulerian and Lagrangian representations. The arbitrariness related to the selection of grid points, ad hoc, is examined in detail in this book, as well as the reasons subjacent to the need to introduce an artificial viscosity. A new approach to Hydrodynamics is presented in which the specification of grid points is considered an intrinsic part of the dynamic problem and in which the discontinuities are taken into account in its own formulation. Based only in the Hamilton s Principle a set of differential equations is deduced for both dynamic variables and grid points. The formalism is applied to the study and analysis of supernova explosions. ····· 1036120304

For a given ensemble of non-abelian gauge theory vacuum extremal black holes carrying a nonzero pair of gauge charge and cosmological constant, we study the Gaussian fluctuations over an equilibrium ensemble and determine the criteria for the well-defined, non-degenerate, curved and regular state-space and chemical surfaces. From the notion of the fluctuation theory, we show for the extremal black hole ensembles that the global stability and phase transition curves algebraically reduce to a set of finite polynomials, as the function of the charge. A thorough assessment of a pre-existing method to quantify theoretical approach for low-dimensional systems is performed. The procedure to such method is implemented and used to predict the electrical response to an external electric field of finite 1D chains. This is relevant not just as a test of the method but also for understanding real materials, whose electrical response can be mimicked in terms of Hubbard model. The 1D case, in particular, can provide important insights into the nonlinear optical properties of polymers. Additionally, this book introduced and implemented a novel extension of the existing method in magnetic field. This is successfully applied to investigating magnetic properties of systems involving large ensemble averages. It also investigates the magnetic behavior of several systems using the computationally efficient atomic self-interaction correction scheme in density functional theory. ····· 1036120149

In the specific the background contribution coming from the materials used for the detector realization has to be minimized. Moreover the net reduction of the background produced by the bulk part of the apparatus has raised concerns about the background contribution coming from the surfaces. Many procedures and techniques were developed to minimize the presence of possible contaminants on detector surfaces. To succeed in this strategy a big effort was put in defining all possible mechanisms that lead to surface contaminations. The presence in air and gases of possible radioactive elements that can stick on the detector surfaces can lead to a recontamination process that will vanish all the applied cleaning procedures. An investigation on the evolution of the ion-surface interaction along the trajectory of the moving particle away from the metal surface is highlighted. Accordingly, the charge exchange process between the emitted secondary particle and the solid surface is studied through out two mainly derived treatments, namely the semiclassical probability rate equation (based on the electron tunneling model) and the configurations interaction treatment. In the semiclassical probability rate equation we assumed that the occupation of the atomic level of the emitted secondary ions on leaving the solid surface can be changed following two competing processes of resonance charge exchange while all the electronics excitations are assumed to dissipate rapidly. ····· 1036120010

However, there is evidence from neutrino physics and astrophysical cosmology which is at odds with the SM framework. It appears likely that the validity of the SM will be compromised at energy scales of a few TeV. A more fundamental theory will certainly be required, and such development is already motivated by the existing dark matter and neutrino data. We confirm the viability of the Supersymmetric B-L extension of the SM as a natural Supersymmetric SM extension which resolves the neutrino mass problem, the dark matter problem, and the hierarchy problem, and which has the ability to explain the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe. When we include quantum corrections to the Higgs potential of the model, we find that Radiative B-L symmetry breaking occurs through the interplay between large Majorana Yukawa couplings and SUSY breaking masses. This realization shows that B-L symmetry breaking naturally occurs at the TeV scale. ····· 1036119885

For this purpose second-order approximate symmetries of the system of geodesic equations for the Reissner-Nordström, Kerr, Kerr-Newman and GW spacetimes are studied. It is shown that in the second-order approximation, energy must be rescaled for these spacetimes. Since GW spacetimes are time-varying vacuum solutions of Einstein`s equations, there is no unambiguous means to define their energy content. Here a definition, using slightly broken symmetries is proposed. A problem is noted with the use of the proposal for pp waves. To attain a better understanding of the implications of this proposal we also use an artificially constructed time-varying non-vacuum plane symmetric metric and evaluate its Weyl and stress-energy tensors so as to obtain the gravitational and matter components separately and compare them with the energy content obtained by our proposal. The procedure is also used for cylindrical GWs. The usefulness of the definition is demonstrated by the fact that it leads to a result on whether GWs suffer self-damping. ····· 1036119700

The particles of the model featured herein exist as general-relativistically-compatible solitons, in and of an otherwise undistorted space-time continuum. The book emphasizes their geometry and topology and the symmetries of their taxonomical combination. What is achieved is, in effect, an amalgamation of two of the major responses to the particle explosion that bedeviled mid-century physicists, one the non-reductionist Sakata model and the other the Gell-Mann/Zwieg introduction of quarks. The linear dispersion properties of such perturbation modes in such a plasma system has been first examined by the normal mode analysis. The possibility for the formation of nonlinear coherent structures (viz. solitary waves and double layers) associated with such waves in the plasma system (under consideration) has been theoretically investigated. The reductive perturbation method, which is valid for small amplitude limit, and pseudopotential approach, which is valid for arbitrary amplitude waves, has been applied to study the basic features of solitary waves (SWs) and double layers (DLs). The co-existence of positive and negative SWs, and existence of either positive or negative DLs have been observed for certain range of different plasma parameters. The basic features and the underlying physics of the non-linear waves (SWs and DLs), which are relevant to some astrophysical compact objects (e.g. white dwarfs, neutron stars, etc.), have been pin-pointed and critically discussed. ····· 1036119600· 1 · ::::: · 20 ·· 21 ·· 22 ·· 23 ·· 24 ·· 25 ·· 26 · ::::: · 27 ·
