They present a reinforced concrete frame structure, which infillwalls of masonry bricks, although the later could only be limitedly taken into account inthis study. However, the method used remains perfectly valid.To determine the impacts of strong ground motion on a certain type of buildings, severalapproaches have been applied:- the static pushover curve analysis- displacement based dynamic time-history analysis- stress-strain approach based on the dynamic time-history analysisThese simulation types have been applied first to simple models, reproducing what in anexperimentallaboratory might be tested, then to models of progressivelly morecomplicated buildings, from regular frame structures, to real building models, which allthe irregularities usual in the building practice in that time. The methodology adoptedincluded use of several computer support tools, beginning with software for convertingaccelerograms, fibre based finite elements, spread shet and database programs.A further step in testing the general validity has been the use of the same methodologyfor simplified models of real buildings which have been found to be of the same typologyas the models studied more extenisivelly. This examination has shown that themethodology proposed is perfectly valid for them. The integration within the generalframe of assessment of structural performance has been made comparing the computeddamages with real damage types. For this purpose a matrix of damages suffered by`interwar` buildings, previously developed by the author, has been used. It proved again,that the predictions for the buildings with the same geometrical characteristics as thosewhich have been object of this study were close to the reality.The innovative part of this study relies in the stress-strain based approach applied tobuilding models of this size. Such an analysis allows not only description of failure modeand determination of limit states eventually reached by the building, but also the specificdetermination of the number and, if necessary, position of structural members sufferingdifferent types of damage. This kind of output can build the input for otherinterdisciplinary studies. Of interest for the author is the economic study regarding theretrofit/repair needs of damaged elements as opposed to preventive retrofit. New concepts and strategies of regional policy have been the subject of much debate since the mid-1990s. First formulated at the EU-level in the `Cork Declaration` (1996), the concept of integrated rural development is particularly important. Integrated development stands for an approach based on a consistent use of endogenous potentials, a multi-sector regional and local implementation level, the participation of those affected, the development and use of network structures and partnerships, as well as the implementation of regional management and capacity building.In view of the far-reaching structural changes, the classic steering instruments of the national authorities have proven to be insufficient. Other levels appear to be more appropriate to address many of the current issues. Responsibilities of the nation state are transferred either `upstream`, that is to higher-level authorities, e.g. the European Union, or `downstream` to regional and local authorities. At the same time, the relationship of public administration, economy and civil society is being reformed especially at the regional level, which can be summarised under the term of regional governance.The above sets the context for this study, which analyses new concepts, strategies and instruments in regional development policy, their implementation at the regional and local levels and finally, their relevance for the development perspectives of rural peripheries. The study rests upon three qualitative case studies, carried out in three different European regions: the Western Isles and Skye & Lochalsh (Scotland), the province Jämtland (Sweden) and the region Eisenwurzen (Austria). The detailed evaluation of the case studies, leads on to a comparative analysis of the examined national and regional and/or local concepts, as well as the employed strategies and instruments for regional development. For these studies a high number of different apple cultivars were selected and screened for their amount of bioactive components. Some cultivars were stored for different periods under various conditions. Mechanisms leading to Mal d 1 synthesis during storage have not been unveiled thus far. In this work the effect of 1-MCP, as an ethylene inhibitor, on Mal d 1 synthesis during storage was evaluated. The choose of cultivar, any agronomical practices and proper storage conditions might give the possibility to provide apple fruit with high amounts of health promoting substances and at the same time low amounts of the allergen Mal d 1. The results can be summarized as follows:A high content of polyphenols and antioxidants can be maintained by optimal storage conditions. No differences between cold storage and storage under controlled atmosphere could be detected, whereas shelf life led to lower content in antioxidants. Pearson`s coefficient of correlation showed a positive correlation between polyphenols and antioxidant capacity. Cultivar had a strong effect on the amount of secondary plant metabolites.Mal d 1 content was quantified by Sandwich-ELISA. The apple cultivars differ in Mal d 1 concentrations. We determined a high variability in Mal d 1 content within one cultivar and between two orchards, Klein-Altendorf and Bavendorf. This shows that environmental conditions had a great impact on Mal d 1 synthesis. In most cases integrated produced fruit showed higher Mal d 1 amounts in comparison to fruit from organic cultivation. During storage a significant increase in Mal d 1 content was observed.Harvest maturity did not influence polyphenol content, ascorbic acid content and antioxidant capacity at harvest as well as storability of apple fruit in regard to polyphenols. Genetic differences between the cultivars seem to have a higher impact than stage of ripeness. Phytochemicals can be maintained during storage in a cold chamber. This especially counts for polyphenols and for ascorbic acid to a lesser extend.Fruit of different apple cultivars were screened for their content of health-promoting substances as well as Mal d 1 at harvest and different terms of postharvest storage. The stage of ripeness seems to have no impact on storability in regard to Mal d 1 content and polyphenoloxidase activity. Mal d 1 content increased during storage whereas polyphenoloxidase activity remained on a high level. No relationships were found between Mal d 1 content and PPO activity and polyphenol content, respectively.1-MCP-treatment decelerated Mal d 1 synthesis in stored ¿Golden Delicious` fruit. This could especially be seen during the first 8 weeks of storage. Mal d 1 synthesis started again if the fruit were further stored. Nach dem Fall der Mauer wurden Regionalparks in Brandenburg geplant und neue Parks in Berlin angelegt. Die IGA 2017 setzte diese Entwicklung fort. Bereits 1990 hatte die vorindustrielle Berlin-Potsdamer Parklandschaft das Prädikat `Weltkulturerbe` erhalten. Heute stellt sich angesichts des Wachstums Berlins und der sich zuspitzenden Herausforderungen durch Klimawandel, Arten- und Ressourcenschutz die Frage nach einer wünschenswerten Balance von Stein und Grün in neuer Weise. Das Buch stellt deshalb ausschließlich aus der Fußgängerperspektive fotografierte historische Stadträume und den heutigen Zustand desselben Ortes gegenüber. Die Vergleiche machen eindrucksvoll deutlich, welche Wiedergewinnungspotentiale im Berliner Stadtkern vorhanden sind - die historische Mitte ist eine Stadt auf Augenhöhe. This complicates the implementation of different measures in existing social, economical and ecological systems and also restricts the estimation of future risks. Since systematic and periodical surveys in the sense of a census concept are mostly unrealistic, a method is needed to produce sufficiently adequate estimations of processes by random samples and indicators.This case study aims at developing a method on the basis of the combination of the representative samples and the indicator-based approaches for analyzing space relevant socioeconomic and ecological processes in Benin. In total we identified three main processes in the coastal area of Benin: the migration into coastal zone, the environment changes (land use, climate change and natural risks) and the vulnerability of local residents.Method consisted to two types of surveys: the interrogation of responsible persons in public office (32 semi-structured interviews) and of the population groups (667 structured interviews). These groups were distinguished according to ethnicity, gender, age as well as location of the dwelling place (rural or urban zone). In total, 262 women and 405 men belonging to the ethnic groups Fon, Yoruba, Houedah, Xla, Toffinou, Wéménou and Gun were interviewed. Members of each ethnic group were grouped according to sex (men and women), marital status and age (young adults, adults and elderly persons).For the data analysis, we used the log (x+1), the analysis variance using 4 factors, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the Factor Analysis (AFC) and Log-linear analysis. Multivariate analysis was applied to define the spatial variability of the vulnerability in the area of investigation.Results showed that: (1) the coastal area of Benin have the highest population density in the country, which can be attributed to migration and an increase in population, (2) there is a relationship between ethnicity and incidence of occupation as well as between religious affiliation and incidence of occupation, (3) the coastal area experiences numerous environmental problems and the effects of climate change, (4) all this has an impact on the socioeconomic components of the coastal area and increase the vulnerability of the coastal inhabitants, (5) this leads to the marginalization of actor groups and social problems, (6) the local population has certain patterns to explain natural and coastal risks and of vulnerability, (7) therefore, their reasoning of possible actions in response to issues which arise differs markedly from that of public administration, (8) taking into account this rationality is crucial in the participative coastal zone management.The method used is applicable for the analysis of regional processes when dealing with insufficient data. In addition it is transferable to other tropical coastal regions with a similar set of data problems. Therewith, the conducted methodology has successfully proven to be a suitable alternative under the specified conditions. In the end the new approach to detect spatially relevant processes with heterogeneous data sets, combing remote sensing, GIS and socioeconomic surveys for further research is identified to overcome the limitations of the achieved results that still exist. ····· 10361164465

Die Ergebnisse zeigen eine deutlich differenzierte diurnale wie saisonale Partitionierung der turbulenten Wärmeflussdichten, die eine deutliche Abhängigkeit von den Standortcharakteristika sowie von meteorologischen Faktoren (u. a. Globalstrahlung, Lufttemperatur) aufweist. Eine positive human-biometeorologische Wirksamkeit (innerstädtischer) Grünflächen konnte nachgewiesen werden. Die Messung wurde über eine Länge von 704 m in einem typischen Ausschnitt der Essener Innenstadt zwischen einem Universitätsgebäude und dem Essener Rathaus über einen Zeitraum von einem Jahr erfasst. Zusätzlich wurden Punktmessungen auf verschiedenen Höhenniveaus sowohl in der Stadt als auch im Umland durchgeführt, um Vor- und Nachteile der beiden Methoden gegenüberzustellen. Die temporär wechselnden Verhältnisse anthropogener Einflussfaktoren im Zusammenspiel mit den meteorologischen Bedingungen während des Messzeitraumes bewirkten einen ausgeprägten Jahres-, Tages- und Wochengang der CO2-Konzentration am Stadtstandort, jedoch nicht am Vergleichsstandort im Umland. Neben zahlreichen resultierenden signifikanten Abhängigkeiten der CO2-Konzentration von meteorologischen Elementen zeigen die Ergebnisse auch, dass konventionelle Punktmessungen sehr stark durch lokale Quellen beeinflusst werden können. Having different magnitude at the industrial, traffic and background areas for different air pollutants these changes made the main aim of the given study to analyse the historical development of air pollutants at the different kind of stations distributed within the state. The sharpest decrease in air pollution between 1983-2007 was observed in CO, NO and SO2 concentrations whereas insignificant changes in NO2 (15-20 %) were registered, because of the fact that catalytic filters in vehicles favour emissions of NO2 as a primary pollutant. Changes in NO/NO2 ratio together with increased temperature favoured enhanced ozone concentrations (20 %), which appears to be the indicator of summer smog. Hence, smog episodes in 2003 and 2006 have also been clearly observed in regard to maximum temperature change at industrial and background stations, showing that though ozone forming potential is higher at background stations. The results of Fourier transformation showed clearly defined 7-days cycles at industrial, traffic and urban background stations, which was not the case at the pure background stations.
