To accommodate a single cell`s large number of users, each running a different application on its mobile terminal, optimization of limited resources is critical. The transmission path from the base station to the mobile terminal is the downlink. In the downlink, feedback of mobile user`s condition to the base-station is essential for optimal allocation of limited resources, however, it is a system design challenge. Mobile user`s condition is comprised of its wireless channel condition, among multiple other such system metrics. This book explores optimal resource allocation, with partial knowledge of a mobile user`s condition at the base station. It shows the right feedback information is application dependent. The set of techniques explored improve the performance and bandwidth efficiency of future wireless systems. The work should be very useful to industry professionals in wireless networks, academicians - professors or graduate students or anyone else with an interest in wireless communications. ····· 10361102945

The former has sinusoidal airgap flux and the back EMF, thus has to be supplied with sinusoidal current to produce constant torque. The PMBDCM has the trapezoidal back EMF, so the rectangular current waveform in its armature winding is required to obtain the low torque ripple. Generally, the magnets with parallel magnetization are used in the PMSM while the magnets with radial magnetization are suitable for the BDCM. The interior PM (IPM) synchronous machine is being studied as a promising candidate for high-power starter/alternator in future internal combustion engine vehicles. The other many popular applications of IPM machine are traction, machine tool, spindle drives, air conditioning compressors and electrical vehicles. Torque ripple minimization in PM motors is conventionally obtained by either good motor design or appropriate control strategies. In design optimization programs, a reliable and detailed analysis of the torque and back-EMF of the machine should be performed. ····· 10361102898

Approaching the design of these networks through the medium access control (MAC) layer, analytical expressions are derived for the outage probability, which is defined as the probability of receiving messages erroneously. Moreover, the impact of various ad hoc network characteristics (such as fading and bounded region) is investigated. Having established an understanding of the behavior of ad hoc networks, we propose MAC layer techniques to improve the performance. Three schemes are proposed: 1) optimization of the sensing threshold in CSMA, 2) enhanced decision making ability of CSMA, and 3) introduction of bandwidth partitioning. Finally, we step into the domain of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communications. The performance of MIMO networks with no transmitter channel state information (CSIT) is analyzed, and different transmission schemes are proposed to achieve the best usage of transmit antennas. With the addition of CSIT, we consider various interference management schemes, and propose a distributed binary power control scheme that ensures an increase in the sum rate of MIMO networks. ····· 10361102808

In the past few years, the industry has managed to overcome the SPE barrier for more storage capacity. Thermal-assisted atomic force microscope (AFM) based data storage is a new attractive potential solution to supersede magnetic hard disks. This book familiarizes readers to this new data storage technology. Thermal transport in the AFM based data storage system is one of the key factors affecting this technology to successfully transfer to commercial products. Thus the emphasis of this book is placed on the issue of thermal transport in the system using atomic/molecular scale simulations. On the other hand, developments in power semiconductors have been tremendous. Using new state of the art components, traditional topologies can be used more efficiently and for much higher power levels. The recent efforts in the field of semiconductors are especially interesting for high power and high voltage applications, where the voltage blocking capability of components has always been a major issue. In order to achieve the needed voltage blocking capability traditionally many low voltage components are connected in series but, as a result, the number of components and the complexity of a system will increase, which reduces the efficiency and overall reliability of the converter. Using new high-voltage IGBTs the efficiency and power density of converters and thus, the feasibility of the whole system can be enhanced. Linear Dispersion Codes are one group of Space-Time Codes with different design methods which are used in MIMO systems. Among them, PSBLLSTCs can provide various data rate and reliable performance in uncorrelated channels. In this book, the influence of unavoidable correlation in MIMO channels on the performance of PSBLLSTCs is studied. It is shown that by applying the optimal phase shifts among transmitted symbols in one layer or between different layers, performance degradation can be reduced. It has also been shown that the optimal phase shifts achieved for uncorrelated systems would not change in presence of correlation. In studying the performance of PSBLLSTCs, high decoding complexity of Maximum Likelihood detection was noticed. In this book, the method of Polar Sphere Decoding is exploited to simplify the decoding process and to provide the possibility of using Sphere Decoding in non-lattice configuration at the receiver side for PSBLLSTCs. It was found that a high gain value of the PSS slightly negatively affected the initial oscillations after the fault application. The initial oscillations have higher amplitudes due to the high gains. It is also suggested that the optimal locations of the PSS be considered within the optimization, especially for a Multi-machine systems. ····· 10361102237

To get the best performance from any recording or transmission medium requires that some passages that are close to the maximum permissible level, and that they may momentarily or unpredictably exceed it. In such cases, the danger of frequency distortion is replaced by controlled (and usually less noticeable) distortion of dynamics.
