Modern image search engines retrieve the images based on their visual contents, commonly referred to as Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) systems. Typical CBIR systems can organize and retrieve images from image databases, automatically by extracting some features such as color, texture, shape from images and looking for similar images which have similar feature. One problem of this approach is reliance on visual similarity to judge semantic similarity, which creates problems due to semantic gap between low-level content and high level concepts. Even with the subsistence of this problem, if aggressive attempts are made CBIR can be used for real life applications. For example in spite of the open problems like robust text understanding, Google and Yahoo have become most popular for searching. The work presented here mainly focuses on efficient CBIR methods with help of representation of converting the visual content of images in feature vector using proposed techniques. The proposed CBIR methods using Colour, Transformed Image, Texture and Shape content are proved to be better and faster using test bed of 1000 variable size images spread across 11 image categories. ····· 10361615

Design of an Automobile Theft Deterrent System

This book gives you an overview of Designing and implementing a cost effective Automobile Theft Deterrent System (ATDS). The design talks about merging a ublox GPS unit and a Wavecom GSM module which can be of good support to design a fleet management system as well. The main feature of the ATDS is to deactivate the vehicle when the unit receives a specific command from the authenticated mobile unit. The deactivation technique is based on interrupting the ground connection to the Power Distribution Centre (PDC) by providing an activation message from the users mobile unit. Once the PDC is disconnected the Auto ShutDown Relay (ASD) is latched this in return kills the engine and the complete electronic Control units (ECUs) present in the vehicle. Further the vehicle is tracked through GPS. The GPS data is written to the company database and transferred to the GIS to provide the user with the location on the map. The design talks about interfacing a MEMS sensor for speed detection. This book focuses on the creation of an interactive ATDS. The ATDS is designed using OpenAT OS. ····· 10361601

In recent years neural computing has emerged as a practical technology, with successful applications in many fields. The use of neural networks in pattern classification is becoming increasingly widespread, with applications in signal processing areas such as signal detection and classification. In this book, the signals concerned include sonar and radar ionosphere databases from the research literature. These two data sets are intentionally chosen, because they contain high dimensionality, small sample sized problem and complex decision boundaries due to overlapping clusters. Learning from small sample sized dataset is typically a very difficult problem in the theory of complexity. It is a challenging task even for neural network. We have investigated the neural network based design of an optimal classifier and attempt is made to suggest suitable model by comparative analysis of the designed classifier for pattern classification on standard benchmark databases of sonar and radar ionosphere from the real world systems. ····· 10361537

Satellite-based rainfall estimation technology has rapidly developed in the last few decades but this technology is still in its infancy in most of the Himalayan countries. A clear understanding of the satellite rainfall methods and products are a prerequisite to apply satellite rainfall estimates (SRE) for flood prediction. This research focuses on three broad objectives (i) evaluation of accuracy of SRE over the Central Himalayas of Nepal (ii) improvement of the SRE with bias adjustment (iii) improvement in the flood prediction by applying bias-adjustment. The verification of SRE was conducted at three levels, considering the whole country, at various physiographic regions and at river basin level. The application of SRE in the hydrological model indicated the need for bias-adjustment which when applied significantly improved the flood prediction. This book should help researchers, academicians as well as practitioners to better understand the performance of SRE over the Himalayas and its application for flood prediction. ····· 10361515

Ion Implantation in alumina for improved biocompatibility

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Among the most important challenges of modern material engineering is to repair ill or damaged organs of the human body. Ceramic materials have various superior characteristics in mechanical properties, heat resistance and chemical stability. Therefore, ceramics have been considered as the candidate for biomaterials used for tooth root and artificial bone. Among the ceramics, alumina is being widely used as hard tissue replacement. Despite having the assets for its effective use as hard tissue implant materials, it has some major drawbacks. Though alumina is inert, but it is corrodible in body solution, which may lead to failure of the implant. Another major drawback is its rigidity and brittleness. In this work, we have tried to improve the properties of alumina by nitrogen ion implantation for its use as potential hard tissue replacement. Ion implantation offers an unrivalled tool for tailoring of the surface properties, making possible to design new biocompatible materials characterized by superior mechanical and biological properties. In this work we have improved the surface properties of alumina without changing the bulk properties by nitrogen ion implantation. ····· 10361306

Solid and Hollow Section RC Bridge Piers under Uniaxial Loading

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Hollow section reinforced concrete columns (HRC) have been used as piers for bridges and form of supports for heavy structures where compression load is critical. HRC in comparison with equivalent solid section provides high load-carrying capacity, torsional stiffness, and large reduction in self-weight, high strength-mass ratio, stiffness-mass ratio, and reduction in mass contribution to seismic response. It is also used (not often) in buildings to allow internal passage of sewer or utility pipes (improved aesthetics). Several works has shown that the Hollow section reinforced (HRC) column has greater load capacity than the equivalent solid section even when the area of concrete is equal. Therefore, the conventional load capacity formula for solid section column may not be appropriate to predict the capacity of HRC of an equal area of concrete. Empirical formula is proposed to predict the capacity of HRC based on the conventional load capacity of an equivalent solid section. ····· 10361132

Reduction of Total Dissolved Solids From Tannery Effluent

Raw hides and skins serve as the raw material for leather making industries. The main constituent of these raw material are proteins with about 70% of moisture and they are susceptible to microbial attack. Because of this, it is essential to preserve the protein matrix of skin/hide before converting it into leather. Though the preservation of skin/hide by using common salt to an extent of 30 50% (w/w) is widely practiced, this method generates a huge amount of pollution in the form of total dissolved solids (TDS) and chlorides (Cl) during leather processing. Therefore various investigating groups have been involved in alternative curing systems. In this book sodium sulphate is used as preservation salt wholly or partially with the common salt for pollution abatement. Rigorous laboratory experimentation were made on volatile nitrogen, moisture content, bacteria count and hydrothermal stability of the skin, and sodium sulphate (30%w/w) as well as sodium sulphate (20%w/w) with sodium chloride (i.e. 10% w/w ) proved as most preferable option for curing of sheep skins which gives effective preservation. The pollution load study provides sodium sulphate as viable alternative. ····· 10361108

The studies were conducted to produce bioethanol fuel from dates fruit biomass using different parameters. The effects of duration, pH, temperatures, enzyme concentration and components of dates waste on bioethanol production were investigated. The optimum yield of bioethanol at different parameters was evaluated. Viscosity, acid value and some metal content were found within the limits described by the American Standards for Testing Material (ASTM). The produced bioethanol was analyzed and found that there was no toxic elements and acceptable for transportation fuel and maintained the quality of ASTM standard. Fuel consumption was found less in 10% bioethanol than 5% bioethanol and 100% gasoline. Greenhouse gas emissions like NOx, CO2, CO, SOx, and HC were reduced by using bioethanol as fuel. This bioethanol from dates fruit biomass (waste dates/non-food materials) was of good quality which generated the petrol engine(Gen -2 car engine, Malaysia) . Besides, waste can be managed and renewed energy as well as recyclng process can be done by using this bioconversion and waste management technology. ····· 1036134
