The spray droplets were deposited over a rotating copper substrate to achieve a disc shape preform. The thickness uniformity of the preform was found to depend on the preform distance from the nozzle, preform offset distance from the axis of the atomizer and inclination of the preform from the horizontal plane. Mathematical equations were developed to represent the thickness variation of the preform with aforementioned parameters. The porosity, hardness, strength, wear and microstructural studies of the Al-Si-Pb spray deposited alloys were conducted for different lead content, top to bottom distance of the deposit and the distance from centre to periphery of the deposit. Overspray and worn debris particles were also analyzed. Particles/droplets of two different types were observed to deposit on the substrate. This work aims at investigating the kinematics and dynamics of six degrees of freedom micro-robot intended for surgery applications. The kinematic equations of motion were obtained using Denavit-Hartemberg representation. The workspace of the robot was investigated based on the kinematic equations as well as the physical limit of each joint. The dynamic equations of motion, which are important for the proper design of robot controller, were first derived using the Lagrangian-Euler technique. Then the required hub torque to move each joint was calculated for the motor selection. The trajectory planning was derived using four different methods of trajectory planning. These methods are the third-order polynomial, fifth-order polynomial, linear segments with parabolic blends and soft motion trajectory planning. In the first part of this work, the impact of gravity on transitional and turbulent jet flames is investigated through Direct and Large Eddy Simulations (LES). It is shown that in the absence of gravity, combustion damps the flow instability hence reduces turbulence production and jet growth. However, in the finite-gravity conditions, combustion generated density variations may promote turbulence and enhance both the mixing and combustion through buoyancy effects. In the second part, the LES/FMDF model is extended towards multi-step chemistry with realistic thermodynamic properties, such that the predictions could be compared with laboratory flame measurements. The consistency of the Eulerian and the Lagrangian solutions are discussed, and an efficient algorithm for parallelization of the hybrid code is presented. Comparisons with the Sandia s piloted methane jet flames (flame D and F) are performed and good agreements in the case of the near-equilibrium flame D have been achieved with a flamelet-based chemistry model, as well as with multi-step kinetics. ····· 1036120035

Hybrid vehicles have been developed to increase the fuel economy of existing vehicles. A common issue in hybrid vehicles is the additional vibration and vibration-caused noise. This vibration is primarily caused by the switching of power modes, i.e. from the conventional gasoline engine to the electric or hydraulic motor. In certain cases, this vibration, due to the wide frequency range characteristics, cannot effectively be isolated through the use of conventional isolation technologies. In this work, a mixed mode magnetorheological mount has been investigated to mitigate this and similar wide-frequency vibration. A parametric analysis has been performed on one of the main components of the mount, the elastomeric top. Three different parameters were the focus of this investigation. The rubber thickness (by two means) and height were studied. It was found that varying the mount diameter (thickness) is the most influential parameter that was investigated. The initial analyses to validate the finite element model showed at most a ~5% difference. Of these, lithography-based techniques have proven effective at manufacturing large fields of deterministic microasperities and microcavities on planar and cylindrical substrates. The present study focuses on adapting UV-lithography to a more complex substrate. Machined from stainless steel, a conical mold insert introduces an interesting geometry designed for the injection molding of radial lip seal elastomer. The distinct shape of this mold insert poises unique challenges to a conventional lithography procedure. Modifications to the process are incorporated into a three-day manufacturing treatment, and results are obtained through optical microscopy and light interferometry. By applying Design of Experiments (DOE) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), significant process variables are indentified. The equation that is used to represent the diffusion phenomena in the GDL is solved using the Finite Difference Method. The main environmental factors for the deterioration of GFRP sandwich composites are temperature, sunshine, water/moisture, alkalinity and load. In this an experimental investigation has been carried out to study combined effect of chosen parameters moisture and temperature & also to study the rate & magnitude of damage of GFRP sandwich structure composites under hygrothermal loading conditions. The sandwich structure composed of E-glass fibre, polystyrene (thermocol core) and epoxy resin were subjected to three point bending test to assess bending strength. Two thermocol cores with different thickness (8mm and 16mm) were investigated. It has been observed that the sandwich structure with higher core thickness withstand a higher bending load show less flexural stress and flexure modulus when compared with low core thickness. Higher percent bending pre-loads lead to higher degradation in maximum flexure load as well as flexure modulus and flexure stress. ····· 1036119701

1- This study shows the ability to successfully cold-spray 316L stainless steel using nitrogen and helium as a propellant gas. The microstructure was characterized with low porosity and fine grain structure. In addition, after post-processing heat treatment, the microstructure became denser (i.e. lower porosity). The microhardness did not change with 400°C annealing temperature but decreased significantly at 800°C, which can be explained by the recrystallization that occurs during cold-spraying. Both the ductility and strength were improved after annealing at 1100°C, in particular. 2- This study shows the ability to successfully cold-spray composite 316L-CoCr using nitrogen as a propellant gas with Co-Cr volume fractions (i.e. 25%, 33.3%). The deposition efficiency decreased with increasing the amount of Co-Cr. The microstructure is characterized by low porosity level in the first two mixes. At 50% as mixed Co-Cr and 316L, the actual as coated material was 33% Co-Cr, due to difficulties in bonding Co-Cr particles to each other. Thus, the porosity was high at the 50% mixture and cracks were also apparent. ····· 1036119533
