Five hundred and fifty- six isolates obtained using the DDC method were assigned to 37 multi-membered (451 isolates) and 105 single-membered colour groups. In addition, 51 isolates derived from tumble shaking procedure were assigned to 7 multi-membered (42 isolates) and 9 single-membered colour groups. The properties of these multi-membered colour groups were identical to those shown by corresponding colour groups that encompassed strains derived from the DDC procedure. Representatives of 31 out of 37 multi-membered had chemical and morphological properties consistent with their classification in the genus Streptomyces. The generic assignment of these organisms was underpinned by 16S rDNA sequence data which also suggested that most of the strains represented new centres of taxonomic variation. The taxonomic data indicate that diverse populations of streptomycetes are associated with the roots of Paraserianthes falcataria. ····· 10361113962

This is leading to the introduction of several probiotic and prebiotic containing foods in the marketplace. New practices are now being adopted by the food industry to develop and promote these types of functional foods with a greater shelf life. Prebiotics (inulin, gum acacia and honey) are foods or supplements that encourage the growth of `good` or `friendly` bacteria i.e. Lactobacillus which have beneficial effects during conditions like aging, gastrointestinal disorders, yeast infections, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, immune system slumps, and may be even colon cancer risk. In the human body, prebiotics nourish the microflora (probiotics) and encourage them to work more efficiently, keeping the human body healthy and strong. This monograph recapitulated practical approaches related to prebiotics as potential substrates for lactic cultures. The future of prebiotics remains extremely positive, with many sectors now reaping the benefits. ····· 10361113448

One such blood stage candidate is the 19 kDa C-terminus of merozoite surface protein-1 (MSP-1C). MSP-1C has been shown to induce both inhibitory as well as blocking antibodies, the latter blocking the protective effects of the former. Inhibitory antibodies will bind to MSP-1C and inhibit merozoite invasion of red blood cell but the binding of blocking antibodies can prevent binding of inhibitory antibodies thereby allowing the parasite to invade an erythrocyte. This book provides some information regarding the development of blood-stage malaria vaccine based on mutated version of MSP-1C which induces inhibitory antibodies against malarial parasite. The use of live recombinant Mycobacterium bovis bacille Calmette Guerin as a vaccine vehicle was also described in this book. The rBCG expressing the mutated version of MSP-1C was found to induce some level of protections against P. falciparum thus paving the way for the rational use of rBCG as a blood-stage malaria vaccine candidate. ····· 10361113397

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray Biofilms have always been known for resistance to antibiotic treatment. There are many reasons for this ability to survive. Some bacteria, once they infect a host, elect to take on a planktonic`, or nomadic, lifestyle in order to maximize nutrient availability. Others, however, elect to congregate with other microorganisms, settling in one area and creating a single sessile` organism in order to provide mutual protection for the entire colony. In fact, the act of collecting many different bacteria into a single organism makes the entire colony about 500 times more resistant to antibacterial agents (Costerton, et al.) than a single planktonic bacterium that simply settles on a surface. The main reason that biofilm is so much more resistant to antibiotic treatment than its planktonic counterpart is that biofilm microorganisms tend to specialize in each others` functions, allowing for reduced antibiotic penetration, the expression of biofilm-specific genes, and the specialization of certain cells into a more dormant form of existence called persister cells (Lewis). ····· 10361112970
Its principles and objectives are achieving good crop yiels by using techniques which minimize the human impact on the environment. If intensive agriculture could allow big yields, the large quantities of pesticides and other chemicals used are known to negatively impact the ecosystems. Moreover, the practice of intensive farming is out of the reach of poor resource farmers in the tropics.
