Expressions of Angiogenic and Apoptotic Markers in Soft Tissue Sarcoma

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Angiogenic and apoptotic activity plays an important role in the development and progression of soft tissue sarcoma. Both anti-apoptotic and pro-apoptotic activity are directly associated in tumor cells and endothelial cells in this study supporting the role of endothelial cells in survival and regression of tumor cells in tumoregenesis. Thus, the inhibition of endothelial cell survival factor or activation of endothelial cell death is a promising prospect as a candidate for tumor therapy. We also demonstrate that anti-apoptotic activity is associated with tumor histologic subtypes which are commonly seen in synovial sarcoma. In addition, there is also diversity seen in angiogenesis and pro-apoptotic activity amongst the various histologic subtypes of STS eventhough it is not statistically significant. This indicates the potential of the above protein expression as a useful marker for diagnosis of specific histologic subtypes. We also have shown that high angiogenic activity is correlated with weak apoptotic activity. This indicates that increased angiogenic activity may inhibit apoptotic tumor cells death which leads to cell proliferation. ····· 1036199751

Cigarette smoking has led to epidemic level increase in the progression of atherosclerosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiovascular disorders and cancer. The effects of smoking on human health have been investigated for the last hundred years, but the exact pathophysiological mechanisms responsible are yet to be completely elucidated. In the present study, effects of smoking on hematological parameters, inflammatory markers, antioxidants, markers of hemostasis and fibrinolysis were investigated among chronic smokers and compared with nonsmokers and ex-smokers. The results of present study indicate oxidative-antioxidants imbalance, low grade inflammatory response alterations in the markers of reheology, coagulation and endothelial functions, which increase the chances of cardiovascular disorders among smokers. Although these smoking induced effects may persist for many years most of these alterations return back to normal values within 2-5 years of smoking cessation. Therefore immediate smoking cessation is strongly recommended to smokers as quitting smoking increases life expectancy by reducing the health care risks. ····· 1036199709

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Progesterone is a hormone normally secreted by the body in pregnancy is required for the viability of the pregnancy. High dose progesterone is known to cause neural tube defects (NTDs) in certain animals. In humans, exogenous high dose progesterone may be administered during in-vitro fertilization and in Intracytoplasmic sperm injection treatment. Studies on the teratogenic effects of progesterone have dealt mostly with the possible masculinising effect on the female fetus. Other abnormalities that have been described with the use of progesterone are cardiac malformations, the effects on the central nervous system, like neural tube defects and development of Amelia. Around the world, there are hundreds of thousands of pregnancies affected each year by NTDs, with some fetal demise through spontaneous or induced losses. Based on animal studies, epidemiologic studies and intervention trials, maternal folic acid (vitamin B9) is known to be protective for NTDs, primarily spina bifida and anencephalus. The purpose of the present study was to describe the effect of HDP alone, or in combination with folic acid, on occurrence of NTDs in chick embryo. ····· 1036199595

Cholelithiasis & its complications are the leading cause of surgical entry into the peritoneal cavity in Northern India. So rife is this disease in this part of the world that Cholecystectomy is perhaps the single most commonly performed routine surgical procedure. Throughout the recent history of modern surgery, the one general surgical technique that has generated immense excitement & rapidly percolated into mainstream of surgical practice, is none other than-Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. The technique thou born in secrecy & developed under an atmosphere of skepticism & hostility, has triumphed the world & mind of surgeons. This technique has become the treatment of choice & gold standard for the management of gall stone disease. But like Shakespeare`s famous phrase Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown , this technique too has some associated fallacies. Alteration in serum liver enzymes induced by laparoscopy has been largely underestimated, and the aim of this study is to compare & evaluate hepatic function in traditional Open vs Laproscopic Cholecystectomy. ····· 1036199536

During the past 50 years, more than 100 000 compounds have been screened but only seven plant-derived anticancer drugs have received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for clinical application. Identification of agents that are pharmacologically active against human cancer has depended largely on the screening of natural products and their analogs. Many anticancer drugs have been discovered fortuitously through random investigation of organisms indeed, serendipity remains important in anticancer drug discovery. Although it is broadly accepted that cancers comprise an evolutionary microcosm, this idea has not been advanced to understand and control carcinogenic progression. Development of high throughput isolation of components from a crude natural product extract using highly automated separation techniques has enabled chemists to speed up the isolation, purification and characterization process. These modern techniques coupled with high throughput screening systems are expected to yield a lot more number of lead structures in the near future ····· 1036199438

Rapid Signaling Of Estrogen To Neuronal Dendrite Spine Formation

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Estrogens are important regulators of neuronal cell morphology and this is thought to be critical for gender-specific differences in brain function and dysfunction. Dendritic spine formation is dependent on actin remodeling by WAVE1 protein, which controls actin polymerization through the Arp-2/3 complex. We show that 17-estradiol (E2) administration leads to phosphorylation and redistribution of WAVE1 at sites of dendritic spine formation. WAVE1 phosphorylation is found to be triggered by a G i/G protein-dependent, rapid extranuclear signaling of ER to Src/Rac1/Cdk5 that directly phosphorylates WAVE1. After WAVE1 phosphorylation, the Arp-2/3 complex concentrates at sites of spine formation, where it triggers the local reorganization of actin fibers. In parallel, E2 recruits a G 13-dependent pathway to RhoA and ROCK-2, leading to activation of actin remodeling via moesin. Silencing of WAVE1 or of moesin abrogates the increase in dendritic spines induced by E2. In conclusion, our findings indicate that the control of actin polymerization and branching via moesin or WAVE1 is a key function of ER in neurons, which may be particularly relevant for the regulation of dendritic spines. ····· 1036199417

Diabetes is a common disease prevalent in both developed and developing countries associated with morbidity and mortality. In India the prevalence of diabetes is 12- 17% in urban and 2.5% in the rural population. Onset of type II diabetes occurs at a younger age among Indians, thereby giving ample time for development of the chronic vascular complications. Prevalence of the complications is higher in low socio-economic groups due to lack of glycemic control. Bacterial infections of the foot are commonly encountered in diabetic patients in clinical practice. Early recognition of lesions and prompt initiation of appropriate antimicrobial therapy is essential for controlling the infection and preventing morbidity. Diabetic foot infections are the leading cause (85%) for non traumatic lower extremity amputations. The sensitivity of organisms to drugs change over time, due to development of resistance and hence periodic surveillance studies will provide data for management of diabetic foot infections. This will benefit the postgraduate students and physicians in clinical settings. ····· 1036199331

Essential hypertension is a major health hazard, if left undetected and untreated can lead to cardiovascular abnormalities with increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Hence it becomes necessary to identify the possible risk factors, detect at an early age and take suitable measures to reduce the cardiovascular complications. The study was done to evaluate the autonomic functions in normotensive children of hypertensive parents. Normotensive children of hypertensive and normotensive parents in the age group of 15 to 25 years were included in the study. Autonomic functions were evaluated by standardized methods. The results were analyzed using suitable statistical method. There was a demonstrable alteration in the autonomic function with reduced parasympathetic response coupled with enhanced sympathetic response in children of hypertensive parents. It was also evident that alteration in autonomic functions sets in during early adulthood in asymptomatic children of hypertensive parents. The autonomic function test can be used as a screening tool in later part of childhood and also during adulthood to detect the possibility of developing essential hypertension. ····· 1036199296

The birth of a child with malformation gives rise to a mixture of strong feelings and often makes us search for an explanation for its occurrence. Since human reproduction is a complex process, congenital abnormalities can occur due to errors at any stage of embryogenesis. This book discusses the classification of malformations and incidence of malformations of the different systems. It gives a clear description of its etiology and also discusses the genetic aspect of the malformations. Various methodologies for holistic evaluation of congenital malformations include epidemiological studies, cytogenetic evaluation and animal experimentation. The present study shows that many human malformations arise because of the interplay of precisely timed genetic and environmental interactions, though some of them may be solely genetically determined. Based on the results and analyses of the present study management strategies are recommended to prevent, diagnose or treat the congenital malformations. ····· 1036199253
