The study was to know the mycorrhizal status of different crops & the role of mycorrhiza on crops growth in arsenic amended soil. Tomato, radish & garlic were grown in arsenic amended soil with or without mycorrhizal inoculation. The arsenic concentrations 10, 100 & 500 ppm were used. At higher concentration the seed germination was affected. A positive germination response to AMF inoculation was observed in all crops. In garlic seed germination & growth was higher at 500ppm & lower in other two crops. In tomato & radish the studied parameters were higher in AMF inoculated pots in comparison to their respective treatments and decreased significantly with the increase rate of arsenic concentrations. Higher nutrient uptake and less arsenic content were recorded in mycorrhiza inoculated plants. Among the treatments, highest percentage of shoot regeneration (93.75 % and 75.00%) from filament and anther were observed in MS + 4mgL-1 BAP + 1.0mgL-1 NAA (T3). BARI Sarisha-7 and Tori-7 showed better result (79.17 % & 62.50 % and 72.92% & 56.25% from filament and anther, respectively) followed by Agrani (64.58% and 47.92%) and Daulat (58.33% and 41.67%) in shoot regeneration. Highest percentage of root induction (87.50% and 75%) from filament and anther were observed in half MS + 1.0 mgL-1 IBA + 0.5mgL-1 NAA (T1). Low capitalization, price fluctuation and inefficiencies of resource allocation and input combination are the identified problems of low maize production in Nigeria. Data generated from questionnaires were analyzed using Stochastic Frontier cost and production functions. Parameters of estimate for cost function indicated a positive relationship at 1 % significant level for fertilizer, seed and hired labour. Also, parameters of estimate for production function indicated positive relationship at 1 % significant level for fertilizer and family labour. Mean economic efficiency was 0.90. This work however recommended a 10 % improvement on the farmers` economic efficiency level by adopting the recommended management practices for maize production. ····· 10361146197
