The dynamic nature of the financial market, and financial variables in particular, is evidenced by the empirical data which demonstrates that financial variables typically have a non-normal distribution. The contention of this book is to demonstrate whether the normality assumption inherent in the value at risk (VaR) measurement leads to flawed risk measurement outcomes. To help determine this, a comparative analysis between the conventional VaR method and a moment corrections method (MCM) was undertaken to assess the information effects of inter-day volatility on selected financial variables. The book then concludes by recommending which of these two approaches is more suited to identifying and thus, controlling for, risk in the financial markets. ····· 1036120550

This phenomenon is particularly interesting in transition economies, such as Russia, where local governments have promoted the establishment of JVs due to a belief that local firms can benefit from acquisition of foreign firms technological and managerial knowledge. However, the JV literature to date lacks empirical evidence of performance implications of learning through a JV for local parent firms in transition economies. Rather, it mainly concentrates on understanding learning outcomes at the JV level. Moreover, the comprehensive empirical tools allowing the full range of these implications to be captured are still underdeveloped. At the same time, companies seeking lean implementation should better think of lean as a management philosophy and not as a set of tools. Consequently, managers should continuously search for ways to surpass any obstacle hindering their motivation to implement the lean philosophy. Simultaneously, management accountants should also develop ways to tailor their current management accounting tools to meet their lean needs. This book proposes a framework that suggests the implementation of activity-based costing to cost products in lean firms in conditions where some shared resources are still available. This is in attempt to draw management accountants` attention to the idea that having a condition of shared resources shall not lead them to back off from implementing a lean manufacturing system nor shall it lead them to compute distorted product unit costs. However, the use of activity-based costing may even yield various positive implications that enhances the competitive stand of their companies. ····· 1036120358

Previous studies indicate that many studies have been carried out by selecting only two or three cultural variables and the situation in developing countries is often not clear. The study found that gender and education have significant impact on citizenship performance (CP). While collectivism, future orientation, and uncertainty avoidance are found to be positively related to CP, power distance and masculinity values are negatively correlated with CP. It is also evident that the same cultural value orientation can have both positive and negative impacts on CP, depending on the particular aspect of CP. The findings also reveal that developing countries are not totally different from developed countries as far as the impact of cultural values on CP is concerned. A highly visible and researched change is concerning the process by which firms shift business activities across national borders. While the process theory of internationalization helps carve the path of a firm`s international expansion, the point of departure of the theory is the boundary of the firm. Thus it fails to capture the depth of the internal turmoil SMEs experience. This boundary creates a virtual black box that encapsulates the entities and activities, the very essence of the firm. To date, the black box of the firm is an enigma that research finds difficult to penetrate. The concept of dynamic capability provides a framework for capturing what happens internally when firms experience change. Through use of this perspective, the purpose of this theoretical thesis is to elucidate the internal transitions SMEs endure as they go through the process of internationalization. In order to describe this process conceptual models have been constructed which can be applied throughout the value chain of any SME during any stage of international expansion. ····· 1036119948· 1 · ::::: · 51 ·· 52 ·· 53 ·· 54 ·· 55 ·· 56 ·· 57 · ::::: · 64 ·
