····· 10361107304

They reside in top aerobic zone of soil and utilize atmospheric as well as endogenous methane produced from anaerobic zone in the deep soil. Methane consumption ability of soil is supposed to be directly related to the number of methanotrophic bacterial population size. Tropical dry deciduous forests of Vindhyan region, a strong methane sink, were selected for the study of population dynamics of culturable methanotrophs in relation to available nutrients and soil moisture regime. In addition to this, influence of topographcal variations on methanotrophic population was also studied at hill slope of Panchamarhi in central India. Thirty different geographical locations were selected across the India and influence of geographical variation and impact of agriculture practice was evaluated. This progress is dependent on several factors such as applied technique, plant material preparation and medium composition, especially, plant growth regulators. Successful micropropagation of apple using pre-existing meristems (culture of apical buds or nodal segments) is influenced by several internal (physiological state, genotype), and external (medium composition, technique, in vitro conditions) factors. Different stages of apple micropropagation such as shoot multiplication, rooting of microshoots and acclimatization were strongly dependent upon medium composition. In this book, mainly impact of medium composition (plant growth regulators, mineral nutrients, organic and gelling agents) on growth asects such as: multiplication rate, shoot elongation, bud formation, leaf development, callusing and rooting of different apple genotypes cultured on gelled basal Murashige-Skoog (MS) medium are discussed in details. ····· 10361100989

Therefore, if we can control the interactions between proteins, as a result, we can control some functionality of cells. Main functionality of a protein is carried out by its domains. So, domain is a structural or/and functional unit of protein. Behind protein-protein interactions there exist some domain-domain interactions. Therefore, under standing protein-protein interaction at domain level gives a global view of protein-protein interaction network. In this book, we have made an attempt to infer domain-domain interactions from interacting and non-interacting protein pairs then we have predicted protein-protein interactions based on inferred domain-domain interactions. ····· 1036199546

This is where molecular markers will be handy in determining genetic diversity and this will help in predicting hybrid performance. An essential assumption underlying the use of DNA markers for predicting hybrid performance is that a strong linear correlation exists between heterozygosity and heterosis (Singh et al., 2006). Hence, the investigation of correlation existed between `Molecular marker polymorphism and hybrid performance was undertaken in terminal water stress condition in pearl millet for yield and drought resistance traits. We have tried to investigate the above assumption by using molecular markers (RAPD & SSR) diversion and morphological diversion (Mahalanobis`s D2 clustering ) and its correlation with heterosis (MPH, BPH) in pearl millet. The predominantly vertical flow in the unsaturated zone is governing the processes of groundwater recharge as well as the input of any kind of waterborn substances that may be transported from the surface through the unsaturated zone into the groundwater body. The book focusses on analyzing the transport of water and solutes in unsaturated-saturated porous media with special emphasis on macropore effects due to plant roots - a significant effect in agricultural areas. Another specific strength of the present book is to be seen in the fact that a unique set of relatively large soil column tests has been conducted in a field setup, in which the effect of decayed plant roots channels on solute transport processes was investigated. These intensive field tests and the new results derived from the experiments provide a significant step forward in our understanding and quantification of the role of macropores connected with plant root channels. ····· 1036199136

It has the slowest early growth and the lowest nutrient uptake initially which increases rapidly afterwards. Approximately the uptake of 76% of total N, 86% of P and 82% of K take place in cotton between 49-99 days after planting. Broadcasting of fertilizers, especially P and K, produces fixation problems due to more soil contact. Nearly 58-71%, 30-40% and less than 2% of total cotton growing roots are located in the top 20, 20-40 and below 40cm soil depth, respectively. Further, it is feasible to grow cotton with reduced tillage. The reduced-tillage production methods results into decrease in the number of tractor operations by 41% to 53%, fuel use by 48% to 62% and overall production costs by 14% to 18%. A tractor operated cotton precision planter was developed and evaluated for differential rate application of fertilizers at different depths along rows of seed placement under reduced tillage conditions. The approach has been applied in Tabernas (Almería, Southeast Spain), a representative area of the Mediterranean region where a combination of extreme environmental conditions and modifications of the land-use pattern that occurred in the last decades have led to increase the risk of desertification. The approach is based on multi temporal records of remotely sensed data and field survey. Sets of aerial photographs of the fifties, the eighties and the nineties in combination to satellite images and other thematic data were used to map land use and cover in the three periods. During the past five decades 32% of dry farming has changed into irrigation, abandoned land and activities of none-vegetation cover. The new uses have exerted pressure on the environment that lead to an increase in desertification processes. In addition to the anthropogenic processes, the relationship between desertification and geological processes is also analysed in this work. ····· 1036191722

Over a number of years, various transmembrane region predictors has been developed using computational approach. In this book, a connectionist (ANN-Artificial Neural Network) model has been developed for prediction of alpha helical transmembrane region using amino acid properties rather than using the traditional hydrophobicity approach. The best connectionist model developed in this book, achieved an accuracy of 73.31%, which seems to be relatively better than the methods developed earlier by different researchers.
