The pulping processes produce huge amounts of lignin from its lignocellulosic waste. One of the applications of lignin could be corrosion inhibitor. Initial corrosion studies on native soda lignin and Kraft lignin without any treatments have shown good inhibition on mild steel in 3.5% of sodium chloride solutions. The inhibitive efficiencies increased with the increase in concentrations. Both lignins can adsorb onto the metal surface physically and then react chemically with iron ions to form a protective film that hinders further corroding process. Electrochemical tests were performed on three lignin monomers namely p-Cumaric acid, Ferulic acid and Hydroxybenzaldehyde on mild steel. A full factorial method was used to study the main and interaction effects on these monomers. Ferric-lignin complex formation on steel surface as a protective layer was found to be the main reaction that gives good thermal stability. The adequate correlation between ferric-lignin formation and good inhibition efficiency resulted from the corrosion studies show that lignin can be a potential inhibitor on steel surface. ····· 1036192403

Most of the research, either in laboratory or full-scale studies showed that US significantly improved the aerobic and anaerobic digestibility. The increased interfacial interaction between chemically bonded and physically intertwined components of these hybrids restricts the segmental motion of polymer and thus by slowing down the diffusion of oxygen in the matrix reduces the oxidative decomposition of the polymer. Such hybrids offered much better mechanical properties than the hybrids with unmodified silica. The dielectric properties of hybrids with imide-modified silica are less dependent on the applied frequency therefore these may be used over a relatively wide frequency range. In this study, the quality of virgin coconut oil (VCO) produced from the water soluble materials and centrifugation method of coconut milk from freshly harvested coconuts was investigated and the Separation and filtration of the oil from the cream after centrifugation. Analysis was carried out by HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). The oil recovery was about 25-30% of the volume of coconut milk. The oil was colourless, had natural sweet taste, and free from turbidity and rancidity. Its acid value (0.26-0.43 mg KOH/g oil), and refractive index at 40 oC (1.448-1.449) indicated good quality. Comparison of the fatty acid profile between VCNO and commercial grade edible coconut oil showed that VCNO had higher concentration of short and medium chain fatty acids and lower concentrations of long chain fatty acids than the commercial grade edible coconut oil. ····· 1036191464
