The findings suggest that many African women experience violence in partner relationships. They sustain physical, emotional and economic abuse. Neben der Tatsache, dass es bislang kein Mentoring gab, das sich ausdrücklich an Akademikerinnen richtet, die mit einer Behinderung leben, ist ein weiteres Spezifikum des Konzepts dessen sehr offene Gestaltung. Die Teilnehmenden selbst sind aufgefordert, in sogenannten Tandems miteinander auszuhandeln, welche Unterstützungswünsche eine Mentee hat und wie eine Mentorin oder ein Mentor sie über das Jahr hinweg am besten begleiten kann. Das Konzept setzt ausdrücklich bei den Stärken und den persönlichen Bedürfnissen der beteiligten Personen an. Mit diesem Ansatz unterscheidet sich das Mentoring von gängigen, zumeist speziell auf den Karriereaspekt fokussierten Programmen. Das vorliegende Buch fasst zentrale Ergebnisse der im März 2013 abgeschlossenen Studie zusammen.Zunächst wird ein kurzer Überblick über die Forschungslandschaft zu Mentoring, mit besonderem Augenmerk auf geschlechtertheoretische Ansätze, gegeben.
