The epidemiology of bovine trypanosomosis in northwest Ethiopia revealed that tsetse transmited trypanosomosis have a paramount importance by limiting the crop-livestock production system practiced long time in the study areas. Trypanosoma vivax and T. congolense were the species of trypanosome investigated during the study period. Both cyclical (Glossina morsitasns submorsitans) and non-cyclical (Tabanus, Stomoxysis and others) vectors of trypanosomes were identified. The prophylactic and curative doses of trypanocidal drugs locally used by farmers were found to be poor efficacy based on field methods of drug resistance detection indicating the presence of drug resistance. There was seasonal varation in the prevalence of trypanosomosis and fly density with higher prevalenc e and higher fly density just after rainy season than during the dry period. Therefore integrated and stratagic control program against the parasite and the vector is essential for improved productivity of livestock and agricultural activities in the study areas. ····· 1036188778

Sero-prevalence of Toxoplasmosis in Sheep and Goats in Pakistan

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Toxoplasmosis is a widespread zoonosis caused by the coccidian protozoan Toxoplasma (T.) gondii. It is an important cause of abortion, stillbirth and neonatal mortality in sheep and goats. The parasite is transmitted to human mainly by ingesting food or water contaminated with oocysts shed by cats or by eating undercooked or raw meat containing tissue cysts. All mammals, including man and birds are intermediate hosts, whereas Felidae act both as intermediate and definitive hosts. Therefore, it is particularly beneficial to ensure the prevalence of this parasite in animal species destined for human consumption. Results of the current study will be helpful in developing appropriate countermeasures against Toxoplasmosis in human beings. ····· 1036188766

The HIV/AIDS pandemic has led to an increased incidence of severe opportunistic infections, including zoonoses and other animal-related hazards. People with HIV/AIDS are much more susceptible in general, to zoonotic diseases caused by certain bacteria, virus, fungi and protozoa. The predominant causes of morbidity and mortality among HIV/AIDS patients are opportunistic infections. Hence, this book reviews our current understanding of the major zoonotic and animal-associated opportunistic infections playing a pivotal role in the epidemiology of AIDS and it reviews on the role of animals in the disease transmission and the role of veterinarians in zoonotic opportunistic infections prevention. Besides, it offers practical suggestions designed to reduce the risks posed by animals due to opportunistic pathogens thereby fills the gap which is left by physicians. Therefore, this book will serve as a reference to farmers and pet owners who are living with HIV/AIDS, veterinarians and physicians and anyone else who is involved in HIV/AIDS research. ····· 1036188652

The Epidemiology and Control of Caseous Lymphadenitis in Sheep

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
This research aimed to better understand the epidemiology of caseous lymphadenitis (CLA) and its economic effects on the Australian sheep industries. The work also sought to apply this knowledge to better understand how to control the disease in Australian sheep flocks. It was found that sheep produce approximately five per cent less clean wool in the year in which they are infected. The main routes for the spread of CLA were from sheep with lung abscesses to those with skin cuts and through dips, rather than from an environment contaminated with Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis bacteria. A survey of sheep producers found that the prevalence of CLA had decreased from over 50% in the 1970s to approximately 20% in the late 1990s. It also found that current vaccines were being used inefficiently. Large increases in the efficiency of control can be achieved by approximately 70 per cent of producers by using commercially available vaccines and the recommended vaccination programs of two doses to lambs and annual boosters to adult sheep. ····· 1036188518

Eupatorium adenophorum (Sticky snakeroot) Toxicity

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Eupatorium adenophorum is considered to be a serious weed in agriculture, especially in rangelands where it often replaces either the more-desirable vegetation or native species, but also in forests. Grazing animals get accidentally exposed to the plant under scarcity conditions. A considerable variation between the animal species exists in terms of susceptibility to toxicity due to E. adenophorum. It is generally unpalatable to grazing animals, but goats graze on this plant infrequently. It is fatally toxic to horses and causes the blowing disease in Hawaii and Numinbah disease or Tollebudgera horse disease in Australia. Toxicopathological studies were taken up in Swiss albino mice, as a model and the effects of the plant extract on hematological, biochemical, gross pathological and histopathological parameters were recorded. The plant extract was found to be highly hepatotoxic in mice as evidenced by the changes in blood-biochemical, liver enzyme activities, gross and histopathology of liver. The results of the study suggest that the consumption of the extract of E. adenophorum as medicinal purposes without proper dosing may produce hepatotoxicity in humans. ····· 1036188502

The objective of the study was to estimate the occurrence and distribution of important Garm-negative bacteria from the kidney and intestine of fish, their aquatic environment and carcasses of filleted fish in Lake Tana, Ethiopia. From a total of 510 swabs taken from the kidney and intestine of 255 apparently healthy fish, different bacterial species, which belong to the family Aeromonadaceae, Vibrionaceae and Enterobacteriaceae were bacteriologically isolated and identified. Out of 62 water samples, 47 (75.8%) were positive for Aeromonadeceae and Enterobacteriaceae. Therefore from the results obtained it was concluded that the Isolation of similar types of bacteria from the fish, filleted fish and their aquatic environment has been recorded during the study period. The detection of similar bacterial species both in the fish and the water samples has some implications on the relationship between the fish and their aquatic environment. Furthermore, the recovery of various organisms, which are potentially pathogenic to humans, in the fish alimentary tract suggest that fish either improperly handled, undercooked or consumed raw may cause various diseases to susceptible individuals. ····· 1036187781

Rumen digesta causes water pollution by entering into the rivers, streams, and local water sources. Rumen digesta also causes environmental pollution by its conversion into methane and carbon dioxide. We can save our environment from rumen digesta pollution by recycling of rumen digesta. One of the best methods to recycle rumen digesta is making silage with crop residue because rumen digesta is good source of beneficial micro-organism and as well as good source of partially digested feed material of high nutritive value. We know, in developing countries agro-industrial wastes contribute huge feed resource for ruminants. These feed resources are high in poorly digestible fiber, low in carbohydrate and protein. Ensiling of rumen digesta with agro-industrial by products not only helps to improve the nutritional value agro-industrial by products like improving protein contents and reducing pH, fiber contents and lignin. Furthermore, the ensilation of rumen digesta with agro-industrial by products increases their digestibility. So, by ensilation of rumen with crop residue we can save our environment and at same time we can fulfill the nutritional requirement of the ruminants in developi ····· 1036187454

This MSc thesis is all about working donkeys, horses and mules in different altitudinal locations of central Ethiopia around 200 km radios from the capital Addis Ababa. As very well recommended by several reports, determination of body parameters for all domestic and wild animals is very important for clinical diagnosis of pathological conditions with reference to these normal physiologic parameters. Therefore this study was meant to study how the profiles of working equids of Ethiopia look like in their apparently healthy state. The study also tried to evaluate the effects of some basic factors which are believed to be incriminated to affect these profiles. Among these factors age, sex and altitudinal differences were the major ones included in this study. It is recommended by the author that using these references values as basic reference data to diagnose day to day clinical cases in Ethiopia and other tropical veterinary clinics can help the veterinarians and other veterinary clinic workers to be reasonable in their diagnosis than using the already used to be Europe based reference limits of the temperate zones. ····· 1036187311

Diagnostic Approaches for detection of BVDV Persistency in Dairy Herds

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Bovine viral diarrhea is a major disease of cattle which is causing continuous economic losses to the cattle industry primarily due to decreased reproductive performance. Without doubt, direct contact between BVDV persistently infected, and susceptible animals is the most important transmission route of virus. All control programs which are in use in many countries of the world, mainly depend upon the detection of PI animals, eliminating them and preventing their return into the herds. Therefore, in this study diagnostic suitability of ear notch biopsies and serum samples were compared for the detection of PI animals, as well as proficiency of various diagnostic approaches like VI, AC-ELISA, IHC and Real time RT-PCR were evaluated using ear notch biopsies. It is generally recognized, and we have also confirmed in our experiments, that Real time RT-PCR is more sensitive for BVDV detection than the other methods employed in the study period. However, use of Real time RT-PCR for screening of individual animal cases is cost prohibited. AC-ELISA while relatively less sensitive was shown to has sufficient sensitivity for cost effective identification of PI in ear notch biopsies. ····· 1036187233

Transfection via Nucleofection is one of the most efficient non- viral method of introducing a foreign gene in to the host cell. Cell-type specific combinations of electrical current and solutions make this technology unique in its ability to transfer polyanionic macromolecules directly into the nucleus. Therefore, even cells with limited potential to divide are made accessible for efficient gene transfer. This monograph shows various optimization parameters and protocols for standardizing nucleofection protocol in goat fibroblast cells using bovine IFN- tagged with EGFP as the model gene construct. This technique can be utilized effectively for the production of animals with better production performances. In addition to the brief protocols of various biotechniques, this book offers a general review of the literatures dealing with the different ways of transfection ,assay of transfection, with the hope that it will give compact information to the researchers and students involved in the reproductive biotechnology. ····· 1036187029

Leukemia is a broad term covering a spectrum of diseases. It is a part of the even broader group of diseases called hematological neoplasm. This study was undertaken to clarify the hematological and biochemical changes accompanied with leukemia induced experimentally in rats with benzene administration and its treatment using certain anticancer drugs such as Methotrexate and Doxorubicin. The biochemical parameters were widely investigated. The obtained results illustrated that some chemicals have a toxic effect on blood cells, bone marrow and body organs. such as liver, kidney and heart. Uses of anticancer drugs such as Methotrexate and Aldoxeirobsin in the treatment of blood cancer lead to liver toxicity and adverse effect on heart and increased rates of kidney functions, increase in some types of fat, lower rates for other natural and a lack of hemoglobin and increased oxidation of fat. Therefore we recommend avoiding toxic chemicals, especially benzene as possible and the work of analysis to complete blood sugar and liver function, kidney and fat and cardiac enzymes and analysis of the thyroid on a regular basis for patients with leukemia and cancer. ····· 1036187018

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of bovine somatotropin hormone (bST) and dietary Enzose on nutrient intake and digestibility, milk performance and nitrogen (N) balance of mid lactating lactating Nili-Ravi buffaloes (n=12). bST significantly increased DM, CP, NDF and ADF intakes. Significant improvement in ADF/NDF digestibility and milk yield was observed by bST injection whereas milk composition was not affected. High dietary Enzose (40% of TMR) significantly decreased DM, CP, NDF and ADF intakes and milk yield. Lower digestibility of ADF/NDF was noticed in diets having 40% Enzose. Administration of bST increased N-intake, %N retention and N excretion from milk. High dietary Enzose level (40%) decreased N intake and fecal N. While this high Enzose level improved %N retention in body as well as N excretion in milk as a percentage of intake. Therefore, overall N balance was not affected either by bST or any dietary Enzose level. It is, therefore, concluded that 20% of dietary Enzose in combination with bST at 250 mg/14 days is beneficial for overall performance of Nili-Ravi buffaloes. ····· 1036186984

Post operative pain is induced by peripheral and central sensitization of structures involved in nociception. Pain can be minimized by the use of analgesic drugs prior to pain stimulation such as surgery. Inhibition of cyclooxygenase -2 (cox - 2) activity leads to reduction in prostaglandin production and its effect in inflammation and pain. In this book an experimental study was done on the inhibition of fracture healing possibly resulting from cyclooxygenase - 2 inhibition by Celecoxib. The orthopaedic community embraced the coxibs as a result of their effectiveness and favorable side effect profile. The coxibs have proved valuable in the treatment of post operative pain as well as pain associated with knee and hip ostheoarthritis. Studies have raised concern that coxib may delay fracture healing and tendon healing. This study however confirms that inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes impairs fracture healing and that the effects are dependent on the dose. ····· 1036186559

Bangladesh has one of the highest densities of livestock in the world with 145 large ruminants per square kilometer. Dairy is the most important sector of livestock industry in Bangladesh that provides greater part of animal source protein for human consumption. Lifetime productivity of cows largely depends on their individual reproductive performance. In most countries, the primary objective of a reproductive control program in a dairy herd is to have each cow calve and produce a live calf in every 12 months. Like in many other countries, poor reproductive efficiency has been considered to be the major limiting factors in medium and large scale market oriented dairying in Bangladesh for achieving this goal. This book highlighted the overall reproductive efficiency in main milk pocket area of Bangladesh combining both traditional and recent measures of reproductive indexes. ····· 1036186556
