Genotoxicity of fluoride: Modulation of endogenous glutathione level

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Fluoride (F) toxicity has become a global problem today and needs great concern.F contaminated drinking water could be injurious to bone marrow cells (BMCs) evidenced by chromosomal aberrations (CAs),reduced rate of cell division and induction of apoptosis. As little as 3.4 mg F ion/L in the drinking water F found to be genotoxic, whereas higher concentrations seemed to be less toxic. It results depletion of GSH level and increase in GST activity,MDA production as well as expression of Hsp 70.The tissue-specific pattern of Hsp synthesis may provide a useful toxicological signature to characterize F toxicity.Depletion of endogenous GSH by BSO significantly enhanced the frequency of aberrations.NAC pre-treatment not only led to significant increase in GSH level but also significantly decreased the NaF induced CAs.These indicate the involvement of endogenous GSH in determining F-induced genotoxicity in mouse BMCs.Supply of safe water may be a simpler way to tackle the F-toxicity in large F-endemic population. This book may draw a general concern on the safety level of F contamination and help to better understand the mechanism of action of its genotoxicity and concomitant GSH metabolism. ····· 10361576

Toxocariasis

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Toxocariasis is a public health problem. Man acts as an unnatural host in which Toxocara larvae does not develop but migrate and survive for a long time. The mode of transmission to humans is by oral ingestion of infective Toxocara eggs from contaminated soil (sapro-zoonoses), unwashed hands or consumption of raw vegetables. Some infections may occur from ingestion of larvae in undercooked organs and muscle tissues of infected paratenic hosts such as chickens, cattle and sheep. Transmission to the second generation is theoretically possible by infective larvae of canine ascarid nematode Toxocara canis, a ubiquitous parasite of dogs in temperate and warm climates. This book give a brief overview of Toxocariasis and presents a detailed study of the zoonotic disease in human populations of the valley of Kashmir. ····· 10361451

Ecto and Endo Parasites of Malaysian Rodents

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Rodents are the most widely distributed and largest groups of small mammals worldwide. They have been implicated to transmit zoonotic diseases which have played havoc in human society in the past. Today rodents still remains a threat to human and animal health. The current changes in the global climate may alter the ecology of the rodents which enable new rodents foci to be formed and rodent-borne zoonotic vectors to proliferate. This study reports the findings of rodents trapped in four distinct habitats in Peninsula Malaysia and the prevalence and distribution of their ecto and endoparasites. The zoonotic implications of the findings is also discussed with color pictures of some of the rodent parasites isolated. An overview of the biology and descriptions of the rodents examined is also included. This report provides valuable information for ecological parasitologists, biologists, researchers and students on the ecto and endoparasites of rodents in tropical Malaysia. ····· 10361340

Impact of Habitat Destruction on the Population of Amphibians

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The present study included the impact of habitat destruction on the population of amphibians with reference to status of frogs and toads in Karachi and Thatta districts of Sindh. Four species of frogs, Common Skittering Frog, Tiger Frog, Indian Burrowing Frog and Indian Cricket Frog, and two toad species, Marbled Toad and Common Asian Toad were recorded. On the basis of present study, it is concluded that the permanent habitat alternation, destruction of habitat, use of indiscriminate toxic material such as pesticides, chemical fertilizers and increase of human population, three species Hoplobatrachus tigerinus, Tomopterna breviceps and Limnonectes limnocharis are declined and rated as threatened species in Thatta district, while two species Hoplobatrachus tigerinus and Tomopterna breviceps were rated as rare in Karachi district. The research techniques and information are helpful for graduate and research students of wildlife, National Parks managers, wildlife biologists, wildlife conservation organizations etc. ····· 10361317

Phylogeography of Dusky Fruit Bat (Penthetor lucasi) in Malaysia

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Both molecular and morphological analysis showed no congruency when the genetic analysis were not able to separate the specimens accordingly to their geographical population. However, it was efficiently distinguished and observable from the canonical variate scatter plot that each individual were grouped accordingly to their population. It was suggested that the incongruence could have been resulted from the different forces affecting the parameters used in current study. Morphological characters are known to be more sensitive towards its environment compared to their genetic properties. Different evolutionary path and evolutionary clock calibration could also be the standing factor in explaining the conflicting results of both approaches. Additional of samples towards the north of Peninsular Malaysia and downward to the southern of Borneo could provide a better insight on such phenomenon observed from current population study of P. lucasi. Availability of specimens from each point connecting the possible gene flow bridge between locations around Borneo could be the answer to the current state of knowledge of P. lucasi. ····· 10361155

Aquatic Vertebrates of Haleji and Keenjhar Lakes

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
In the present study, the effects of environmental pollution on aquatic vertebrates of two Ramsar Sites viz. Haleji and Keenjhar Lakes were noted and inventories of the vertebrate fauna were prepared. In the water samples taken from Haleji Lake, the pesticides of organophosphate (OP) and organochlorine (OC) groups were estimated above the Maximum Acceptable Concentrations (MAC). These concentrations were much higher in muscles and fat contents than other tissues of birds. All water samples from Keenjhar Lake contained pesticides below the MAC level. A total of 22 species of mammals, 228 species of birds, 32 species of reptiles, 2 species of amphibia, 37 species of fishes and 33 species of plants were recorded from Haleji Lake, while, 25 species of mammals, 121 species of birds, 29 species of reptiles, 2 species of amphibia, 54 species of fishes and 258 floral species were recorded from the Keenjhar Lake. The research techniques and information are helpful for graduate and research students of Biological Sciences, Environment Science and wetlands managers. ····· 1036124
