····· 10361136839

Intraspecific Diversity of Scorpion Venoms

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The present work Intraspecific diversity of scorpions venom and its implication on the pathophysiological effects explores the concept of microevolution within a single species of scorpion, that of Scorpio maurus palmatus. This work is divided into the following main parts: part one examines morphological differences between four, geographically separated populations of the scorpion Scorpio maurus palmatus and some aspects of their ecology. Part two measures intraspecific variation in the individual protein patterns for each venom using SDS-PAGE techniques. Moreover, modern molecular techniques (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD), Restriction Length Fragment Polymorphism (RLFP), nucleotide sequencing) are used to tease out differences in the DNA of the four populations of scorpions. Part three is associated with the variability in the pathophysiological effects of the crude venom from each location on the insect cells, as this venom is particularly insect directed rather than mammalian directed. ····· 10361135996

Moreover, the cooking of rice in an excess of water showed maximum reduction on the levels of AFB1 and OTA in contaminated basmati rice samples than normal cooking and microwave oven cooking. ····· 10361135516

Dynamics of branched actin filaments in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
De novo formation of actin filaments from the side of mother filaments plays crucial roles at the leading edge of motile cells and in endocytosis. The seven-subunit Arp2/3 complex initiates these actin filament branches. Fission yeast S. pombe has been used as a genetic model organism on studying the mechanism of endocytosis and cytokinesis. However, there is a gap between microscopic observations in pombe cells and in vitro biochemistry because most of the biochemical and biophyscical properties of the fission yeast actin binding proteins have been done with muscle skeletal actin for matters of convenience. I filled the gap with the newly developed protocols for the purification and characterization of active pombe actin by affinity chromatography with C-terminal half of mouse gelsolin (G4-6). I also showed one Arp2/3 complex binds two VCAs and described the intriguing interactions of Arp2/3 complex s two VCA binding sites with VCAs and actin filaments. Our crystal structure showed the N-terminal tryptophan of CA located at Arp3, and we surmised this is the low affinity site 2. My fission yeast genetic results verified the importance of this binding site on cell viability. ····· 10361134478

Biophysical Analysis of an Essential Regulator of the Immune System

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The human adaptive immune system serves as the primary defense against pathogens. While the human adaptive immune response is powered by many components, the Major Histocompatibility Class II (MHCII) molecules lie at the heart of the machinery of the immune system. MHCII display of antigens triggers a cascade of events leading to the immune response. Lack of MHCII expression causes severe immunodeficiency disorders, whereas overproduction of these molecules can cause a variety of autoimmune diseases. The production of MHCII molecules is regulated by a multi-protein complex that includes the Regulatory Factor X (RFX) protein complex, which is comprised of three subunits, RFX5, RFXAP, and RFXB. Mutations or deletions in any RFX subunit that prevents the formation of the MHCII enhanceosome abolishes MHCII expression. A better understanding of how the RFX complex assembles will provide insight into the rational design of novel immunosuppressive therapeutic agents. Our structural analysis of the RFX complex elucidates this complex formation, in efforts to move towards this therapeutic goal. ····· 10361134453

Fibroblast-derived matrix: Regulation of type I collagen synthesis

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Three dimensional cultures of cells have been used extensively to study cell-matrix interactions. These have included the use of hydrogels, sponges and mixtures of reconstituted matrix proteins such as laminin and fibronectin. The use of artificial matrices consisting of purified matrix proteins does not truly reflect the in vivo micro-environments that contain many other proteins mixed in a defined ratio. A novel in vitro model in use of late involves the use of a natural, cell-derived 3-D matrix that closely mimics the native tissue. As illustrated in this work, which investigated the interaction between fibroblasts and their matrix, there is continuous crosstalk between the two and this has an effect on type I collagen synthesis. Cell-matrix interactions are important in organogenesis, cancer, regenerative medicine as well as in fundamental cell biology. This book provides a comprehensive and systematic investigation into the regulation of type I collagen synthesis and provides evidence that the matrix is not an idle bystander in tissue but is an active participant in cellular processes. ····· 10361134370

Physiology of Cell

The cell is the functional basic unit of life. It was discovered by Robert Hooke and is the functional unit of all known living organisms. The word cell comes from the Latin cellula, meaning, a small room. There are millions of different types of cells. There are cells that are organisms onto themselves, such as microscopic amoeba and bacteria cells. And there are cells that only function when part of a larger organism, such as the cells that make up your body. The cell is the smallest unit of life in our bodies. In the body, there are brain cells, skin cells, liver cells, stomach cells, and the list goes on. All of these cells have unique functions and features. And all have some recognizable similarities. Organisms contain many different types of cells that perform many different functions. Knowing the components of cells and how cells work is fundamental to all biological sciences. Appreciating the similarities and differences between cell types is particularly important to the fields of cell and molecular biology as well as to biomedical fields such as cancer research and developmental biology. ····· 10361134315

The intricacies of the TonB complex in Gram-negative bacteria

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
The controversial world of bacterial iron uptake is explored within these pages as a combination of literature review and academic research. Iron, being the most abundant metal on earth, is a necessary component of most biological functions in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Because of its potent reactivity within biological systems, iron tends to be sequestered in large protein complexes, making free iron unavailable for prokaryotic scavengers. Bacteria have developed specialized systems to extract iron from host proteins and capture it in iron-chelating compounds such as heme or siderophores. In Gram-negative bacteria, iron internalization is dependent on the TonB complex (composed of ExbB, ExbD and TonB proteins) where the activity of the TonB protein ensures energy production, siderophore uptake and ultimately, bacterial survival. Techniques such as site-directed mutagenesis and NMR are used to investigate the interaction between the TonB protein and the TonB-box sequences of Gram-negative outer membrane transporters and colicins. Step-by-step models of iron uptake are reviewed and a proposed model of TonB activity is investigated throughout. ····· 10361133182

Deciphering the role of Yap4 phosphorylation under stress conditions

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Yap4 is a phosphoprotein highly induced upon the different stress conditions previously shown to increase the transcription of its gene (osmotic and oxidative stress, heat, arsenate exposure, etc) as well as during stationary phase. Yap4 is downstream the HOG Pathway and the General Stress Response and its phosphorylation is PKA-dependent. Mutation of Yap4 residues T192 and S196 abolishes its phosphorylation, but not its nuclear localization or ability to partially rescue the hog1 severe osmosensitivity phenotype. Phosphorylation seems, however, to affect Yap4 stability as the non-phosphorylated form has a shorter half-life compared to the phosphorylated one. Removal of Yap4 leucine zipper abolishes its nuclear localization, suggesting that Yap4 dimerization could precede its nuclear import. This mechanism, however, does not involve the importin Pse1, previously shown to be responsible for Yap1 import into the nucleus. Future studies will clarify the mechanisms involved in Yap4 nuclear localization as well as its precise role in the yeast stress response. ····· 10361133032

In saline soils, banana suffered from salt injury with the external symptoms. The caroteniod content was decreased in all the treated plants except in control. In all the NaCl treated plants the chlorophyll pigments was significantly reduced. In abscissic acid(ABA), treated plants chlorophyll content was significantly increased. Membrane Stability Index(MSI) was decreased when the salt stress period increased. In case of Cholorophyll Stability Index(CSI) and Membrane Stability Index(MSI), the butylated hydroxyl toluene(BHT) increased over the other chemicals treated in NaCl stress, where as in acetyl salicylic acid (ASA) increased MSI only. The ASA capable of inducing more ascorbic acid production in more NaCl stressed plants. Peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities were decreased significantly over the period of stress increases. In BHT treated salt stressed plants observed significantly higher nitrate redcutase activity. The persent investigation showed that the abscissic acid(ABA), acetyl salicylic acid (ASA) and butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT) have the potential to reverse the effect of salinity in Grandnain banana plants. ····· 10361132482

Over the years, the disease diabetes has evoked landmark findings which have facilitated its management. Yet till now, medical science knows only in part about this. Despite the many hypoglycemic agents so far in use, there are reports of high profile side-effects and increased inefficacy after initial response. Continued reliance on such conventional therapies is hence gloomy. Phytotherapy shows comparative advantage, as botanicals having diverse secondary metabolites, can exert multiple interventions at various stages of the disease, and besides, bear reduced economic burden. This underscores the global herbal renaissance on diabetes therapy. Rigorous investigations to confirm its excellence over the existing therapies is thus necessary. Very few time-tested researches have been carried out in this regards. This research-based monograph on synergistic action of bitter leaf and neem used traditionally in Africa and Asia respectively, fills the gap.
