Mercury induced stress in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) plants

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Worldwide, wheat is a staple food of man kind. To evaluate the phytotoxicity of different concentrations (0.0, 2.5, 5.0, 10 and 25 µM) of mercury (Hg) parameters like growth, biomass, total protein and chlorophyll content were determined. Hg induced oxidative damage was analysed by the measurement of electrolytic leakage, H2O2 and MDA content. Further, to investigate antioxidative defense mechanism induced by Hg, the level of non enzymatic antioxidants such as CAR, ASC and the activity of enzymatic antioxidants CAT, POX, APX, and SOD have been measured. Wheat plants exposed to lower concentrations of Hg (2.5 and 5 µM) did not experience any oxidative stress. However, treatment with 10 µM of Hg, the roots and leaves of wheat plants responded differently. Both the leaves and roots of plants treated with higher concentration of Hg (25 µM) were subjected to comparatively greater oxidative damage demonstrating that the antioxidant components were not able to remove the Hg stress at higher concentration in Triticum aestivum. ····· 10361101282

The Groucho (Gro)/Transducin-like-enhancer of split (TLE) family of corepressors plays a significant role in the regulation of many cellular processes. Having no intrinsic DNA-binding activity, Gro/TLE interacts with various DNA-bound repressor proteins to repress transcription. Gro/TLE possesses a conserved region known as the Q-domain, and this region has been shown to direct the oligomerization of Gro/TLE, which is required for repression. Although the Q-domain is required for oligomerization, its structural properties have never been fully characterized. Here, the Q-domain was tagged with a small ubiquitin-related modifier protein (SUMO) to alleviate aggregation observed with the untagged Q-domain. Size exclusion chromatography (Gel Filtration) and analytical ultracentrifugations were performed. Results show that SUMO-Q oligomerizes predominantly as a tetramer. However, significant heterogeneity is observed at high salt concentrations. Analysis of the hydrodynamic data suggest a markedly non-spherical structure. ····· 10361101141

THE UPTAKE AND DEPLETION OF TOCOPHEROLS

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
As an important chain-breaking antioxidant, the role of Vitamin E has attracted attentions from all over the world. Alpha-Tocopherol and gamma-tocopherol are two of the eight different forms of vitamin E. The dietary intake of gamma-tocopherol is generally higher than that of alpha-tocopherol. However, the levels of alpha-tocopherol in human blood have consistently been shown to be higher than those of gamma-tocopherol. This could be due, in part, to a differential cellular uptake of the two tocopherol forms. We sought to resolve this question by studying the uptake and depletion of both alpha-tocopherol and gamma-tocopherol in RAW 264.7 macrophages. The results indicate that a faster uptake and depletion of gamma-tocopherol compared with alpha-tocopherol. The presence of gamma-tocopherol can promote the uptake of alpha-tocopherol by macrophages. The metabolism of alpha-tocopherol was faster than gamma-tocopherol. These results implied the existence of a hypothetical transport protein, which can preferentially select gamma-tocopherol over alpha-tocopherol. The affinity of this transport protein for alpha-tocopherol could be increased by the presence of gamma-tocopherol. ····· 10361101130

Oxidative stress has been implicated as the major causative factor in the etiology of life-threatning diseases namely atherosclerosis, cancer and the like. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) released during this condition bring about peroxidation of lipid which in turn lead to a cascade of destructive mechanisms ultimately leading to cell death. Although internally present enzymes and externally supplied synthesis antioxidants are capable of counteracting this condition, their short comings include restricted turnover and undesired side- effects, respectively. Thus, the role of n-3 PUFA in combination with naturally present phytochemicals was evaluated in alleviating conditions of oxidative stress in animal models-rats as well as gerbils, whose lipid metabolism mechanism is close to humans when compared to rats. This book will prove to be a good read for academicians, researchers and even entrepreneurs involved in the field of nutrition & medicine, not withstanding biochemistry. ····· 10361101025

Molecular and Cellular Effects of LLLT in Diabetic Wound Healing

für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Wound healing is a complex procedure involving a variety of cells, cytokines and growth factors. Disregulation of this procedure leads to chronic, slow-to-heal wounds, a complication commonly found in diabetes. Diabetes results in hyperglycemia which in turn damage blood vessels and nerves, leading to delayed wound healing that often requires lower limb amputation. Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), commonly known as phototherapy, has emerged as an alternative treatment it abates the inflammatory reaction and stimulates wound healing. Despite the advocacy of this treatment, there has been a reluctance to accept it due to a lack of an understanding of the underlying mechanisms of action. The effect of wavelength, beam type, energy output, energy level, energy intensity and exposure regime remain unexplained, and no therapeutic window for dosimetry and mechanism of action has been determined at the level of individual cells types. Both clinicians and researchers will find this book helpful as it provides a basic understanding of the cellular and molecular effects of laser irradiation on diabetic wounded cells in vitro. ····· 10361100764

Diabetes is a major global health problem, currently affecting an estimated 246 million people worldwide, with a doubling of this prevalence expected in the next30 yr. Diabetes mellitus is one of the commonest endocrine disorders encountered in clinical practice. It is characterized by hyperglycaemia due to an absolute or relative lack of insulin and/or insulin resistance. Noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) Type 2occurs at any age, but is more common between 40 80 years of age and also has a strong genetic component. Compared with people without diabetes, affected individuals are at increased risk for both cardiovascular events and kidney disease. As the number of persons with diabetes increases, the development of microvascular complications like retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy also rises. These microvascular complications are linked to the duration of diabetes mellitus, poor glycemic control and systolic hypertension. Poor glycemic control and long duration of diabetes had impact on progression of microalbuminuria to macroalbuminuria (coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease and stroke). ····· 10361100291

Lignocellulosic biomass is abundant and a renewable resource for the production of biofuel (bioethanol) by using fermentative organisms (Sacchromyces cervesiae & Fusarium oxysporum). The conversion of biomass into maximum yield of glucose is an important step for the bioethanol production but it requires optimum dilute acid treatment. Bio-Ethanol production include various steps like acid hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis, recovery of glucose and fermentation. The tremendous amounts of cellulose are available as municipal and vegetable wastes that can be used for the production of ethanol. Thus, there is great interest in the use of cellulosic biomass as a renewable source of energy through breakdown of sugars that further can be converted to liquid fuel through fermentation process.I am looking forward to work in a professional and competitive environment where I can put my best efforts, hard work and skills to bring up the organization and myself too. Gram-negative bacteria have evolved an array of secretion systems for protein transport across their membranes. The ability to secrete a diverse set of proteins to their target of choice provides bacteria with a menacing tool for pathogenesis. This work aims to enhance our understanding of bacterial pathogenesis by characterizing key aspects of bacterial secretion systems using mass spectrometry. Chapter 1 provides a general introduction of protein secretion pathways in Gran-negative bacteria, with a special emphasis on type III and type VI secretion systems. Chapter 2 highlights chemical cross-linking and mass spectrometry (CXMS) as a technique for studying protein-protein interactions in large molecular complexes. Chapter 3 describes a novel pipeline for acquisition and analysis of CXMS data. In Chapter 4, key interactions between the basal components of type III secretion systems (T3SS) are identified, and used to create a model of the core structure of T3SS. In Chapter 5, secretome of T6SS in P. aeruginosa is profiled to identify three novel substrates of the system. Evidence of the involvement of one of these substrates in inter-bacterial interactions is presented. ····· 1036199667

Pigeonpea is an important high protein grain legume of the semi-arid tropics and caters to the protein requirement all over the world. Improvement of pigeonpea cultivars possessing resistance to pests and diseases, tolerance to abiotic stresses and low allergenic proteins in seeds is desirable. The use of transformation techniques for producing new breeding materials that would not be available in the germplasm among cross-compatible species holds much promise in attaining this goal. Genetic improvement of this crop through biotechnological methods has not yet been achieved mainly due to non-availability of standardized transformation techniques. To develop transgenic plants, standardizing methods of regeneration is equally important. Keeping this in view, in vitro regeneration techniques were standardized employing three different genotypes of pigeonpea and different explants of pigeonpea. Agrobacterium mediated transfer was used in transformation studies with different explants of all three genotypes. ····· 1036199610
