für 71.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Tea is the most popular and inexpensive beverage produced from the young shoots of tea plant. Tea is grown in more than 50 countries, mostly in plantations. A large number of pathogenic organisms are specialized in attacking different parts of the plant. The crop loss in tea due to pests and diseases is around 10-15%. Among the stem diseases, collar/Phomopsis canker is very important. The disease is caused by the fungus Phomosis theae Petch, belongs to the Deuteromycetes. Although phomopsis canker is known for over 40 years in south India, the disease has become a major problem only in recent years as the estates now resort to large scale replanting infilling and inter row planting to increase production and productivity. Unfortunately, majority of the clones used for this are susceptible to the disease. Despite its importance, no effective measures have been worked out to control the disease. The biology of the pathogen and the etiology of the disease are also not known. It is in this scenario, the present investigation has been taken up. The clonal susceptibility, nature of the pathogen, it s life cycle, host parasite interaction and control measures were studied. ····· 1036120326

Epidemiology of Klebsiella infections

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Different Klebsiella species may be responsible for various infections which may also differ with the site of the infection. These species may also present with different antimicrobial sensitivity patterns. However, the identification of Klebsiella to species level is not practiced in most of our hospitals, during bacteriological diagnosis, because of time constraints and labour. In view of these, antibiotics are normally administered to treat Klebsiella infections without considering the type of species responsible for that particular infection, or site of isolation of the Klebsiella species. This book therefore highlights the Klebsiella species responsible for causing infections, their sensitivity patterns to the commonly used antimicrobial agents and the effectiveness of empirical treatment based on sound laboratory research and a thorough study of literature. ····· 1036120134

Bioremediation Of Heavy Metals

für 44.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Heavy metals are widespread pollutants of great concern as they are non degradable and thus persistent. These metals are used in various industries from which effluents are consequently discharged into the environment. Introduction of metals in various forms into the environment can produce numerous modifications of microbial communities and affect their activities. In order to survive in heavy-metal polluted environments, many micro-organisms have developed means of resistance to toxic metal ions.At higher concentrations, however, heavy-metal ions form unspecific complex compounds in the cell, which leads to toxic effects. Some heavy-metal cations, e.g. Hg2+, Cd2+and Ag+, form strong toxic complexes, which makes them too dangerous for any physiological function. Microbiological processes can either solubilize metals, thereby increasing their bioavailability and potential toxicity, or immobilize them, and thereby reduce the bioavailability of metals. These biotransformations are important components of biogeochemical cycles of metals. ····· 1036120057

Characterization of Bacteriocins Produced from Lactic Acid Bacteria

für 53.10€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
In spite of modern technologies and safety concepts such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point system (HACCP), the reported numbers of food-borne illnesses and intoxications are still on the increase. In addition, in recent years, the consumer demand towards high quality and safe foods is growing. These, in turn, have increased the need for using the protective cultures and associated antagonistic compounds (biopreservation) as additional factors to support good manufacturing practices, thereby reducing risks of growth and survival of pathogens and spoilage microorganisms. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have traditionally been used in food processing because of their ability to improve the organoleptic characteristics and healthiness of foodstuffs. Bacteriocins produced by LAB have received considerable attention in recent years because of their possible use as biopreservatives in food processing with resultant reduction in the use of chemical preservatives. Therefore, the main aim of the present study is evaluating the application of bacteriocin-producing LAB or their bacteriocins as biopreservatives. ····· 1036119679

Poliovirus Tissue and Host Tropism and Its Impact on Neurovirulence

für 61.20€ kaufen ···· Rheinberg-Buch.de - Bücher, eBooks, DVD & Blu-ray
Using two different approaches, light was shed on the role of some of post-entry determinants in the PV tissue-host tropism. In the first approach, a chimeric virus PV1(RIPO), utilizing the cognate IRES of human rhinovirus type 2 (HRV2) was used to study the potential contribution of the IRES element toward the cell tropism. Experiments were performed to shed light on the mechanism by which this variant expresses its remarkably attenuated phenotype in poliovirus-sensitive CD155 transgenic (tg) mice. The second approach was designed to study the PV tropism in a cell line known as MDCKCD155 , which is a first known example of CD155 expressing mammalian cell line that cannot be infected by wild type PV. The results indicate that once the virus is inside the cell, the IRES driven translation of viral RNA is fully functional but the cells either fail to support or actively prevent the viral RNA replication resulting in nonproductive infection. This work demonstrates that poliovirus tissue and host tropism is also governed at a stage after the entry of the viral RNA in the cells either at the translational level or at the replication level of viral RNA. ····· 1036119665
