The technology is of special application where microbial exoenzymes, the cells and their products are to be retained within the produce. This book describes importance of several locally isolated bacteria in improving nutritional status of fish feed, promoting the growth of cultured Rohu fingerlings. Moreover, the probiotics reported in this work qualify the status of controlling bacterial fish diseases. It is hoped that the probiotics will find increasing application in the promotion and development of aquaculture. While formulating fish feed a major cost incurring ingredient is protein source. The probiotics while fermenting low cost agriwastes increase protein content in the form of exoenzymes and single cell protein. This aspect is likely to bring new fish feed formulations. ····· 1036119318

Serious infections due to these organisms currently necessitate use of non- -lactam antibacterial therapy. For this reason, accurate detection of methicillin or oxacillin resistance among staphylococci is of great importance, consequently several techniques have been applied to this task, including agar plate screening, and disk diffusion tests. There are many lab methods for detection of methicillin resistance in S.aureus. The gold standard, for antimicrobial susceptibility testing has been the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). In recent years MIC methods has been replaced by molecular methods that detect mecA gene. However, the use of these assay is largely restricted to reference centers, and they are not currently available in most routine diagnostic labs. This book provides comparing several methods, including traditional and commercial methods for the detection of methicillin resistance in S. aureus with reference to the presence of mecA gene as the standard. ····· 1036118976

Because Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is one of the causal factors in cervical cancer, understanding the epidemiology of this infection is an important step towards developing strategies for prevention. The aim of the present study was to examine the HPV prevalence and distribution of high risk HPV 16 and HPV 18 in cervical smears in a sample of Kashmiri women attending a gynecological outpatient Department at Lal Ded Hospital Srinagar and also to explore the determinants of the infection. The samples that were positive for HPV DNA were subsequently assessed for high-risk consensus primers, types 16 and 18. The overall HPV prevalence as observed in our study was 13.8% among our sample of Kashmiri females. The high risk HPV types 16 and 18 were detected in 10.5% of the entire sample. HPV-16 was the more common type detected than HPV18). The prevalence of HPV infection in Kashmiri women is similar as observed in other states of India. The main challenge to the DW industry is to deliver a product that is microbiologically and chemically safe, aesthetically pleasing and adequate in quantity and delivery pressure. The DW that leaves a treatment station has quality, but its quality decreases along the drinking water distribution systems (DWDS). It is well known that biofilms constitute one of the major microbial problems in DWDS that most contributes to the deterioration of water quality. The main goal of this work is to provide a contribution to better understand the biological and ecological mechanisms (adhesion, coaggregation, microbial diversity and interactions, antimicrobial resistance) involved in biofilm formation in DWDS, with intent to control and prevent their formation, in order to improve DW quality. This work reveals that A. calcoaceticus had high ability to adhere to surfaces, coaggregate with partner bacteria and provide resistance to control. Their presence in the synthetic consortium represented a colonization advantage. Also, microbial diversity and interactions increased biofilm resistance and resilience. ····· 1036118957

It is produced by alkaline deacetylation of chitin. Today, Chitin and chitosan have many applications in the biomedical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological fields. Chitosan production from microbial origin has many advantages over traditional productions from crustaceans shells since it avoids limited and seasonal supply, processing complexity and waste removal difficulties. Currently, industrial production for chitin and chitosan is from the shell wastes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of chitin and chitosan from fungal sources.
