This study is aimed to assess the all market and non-market values of floral diversity to provide a picture for the policy makers that how much value the society should achieve for the loss of floral diversity from proposed open cast coal mining activities in Dinajpur, Bangladesh. To assess the floral diversity of the study area list-count quadrant method was applied. Then economic theory was set under an integrated valuation framework for each benefit depending upon its value characterization. The counting TEV of the floral diversity of the study area was found as 1824375.736 thousand Tk/year. Among the total value, direct use value is 1652372.122 (90%), indirect use value is 158724.434 (9%), and non-use value is 13279.180 (1%) thousand Tk/year.This study founds that 19% values of such types are ignored most of the time into the policy-making process. This ignorance ultimately hampers the marginal social benefit and in some cases provides marginal private benefit. ····· 1036192507

These include the changes of animal and plant communities, as well as the changes in hydrology and hydrochemical regimes. Sarobetsu Mire, a raised bog in northern Hokkaido, Japan, is a case in point. Its ecosystem is gradually losing its natural state because of human perturbations at the surrounding area, causing the water level to decrease and threatening a change in the entire mire ecosystem. Some early signs for the change were a reduction of water levels and an invasion of an exotic plant, Sasa spp., at the western part of the mire. The restoration of the ecosystem was attempted through the restoration of water chemistry regimes. The status of water chemistry maintains a well deserved place of importance for the conservation of raised mire ecosystems. The poor-nutrient status will enhance the growth of blanket bog bryophytes, which will further develop this peat-forming habitat. The stable and high water level is the condition that will support this development. ····· 1036192264

The more obvious impacts are deforestation, changes in soil and water regimes and enhanced rates of erosion. Mining operations alter ecosystem structure and function of both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Environmental problems associated with mining have been felt severely because of the region s fragile ecosystems and rich biological and cultural diversity. Large scale denudation of forest cover, scarcity of water, pollution of air, water and soil and degradation of agricultural lands are some of the conspicuous environmental implications of coal mining. Besides, a vast area have become physically disfigured due to haphazard dumping of overburden, caving in of the ground, and subsidence of land. Trees were deciduous and fruits were available all the year round. Leaf shedding and production was highly correlated with rainfall. A total of seven mammalian species was found feeding on figs of this Ficus species which is 21% of total mammal species in Lawachara National Park. Very few species of birds were found to use this Ficus species for different purposes but no one ate figs. Of the total mammal assemblage observed in the tree, four species were globally threatened, representing 3 primate and 1 squirrel species. Globally endangered Hoolock Gibbon (Hoolock hoolock) was found to be most frequent in this tree (29%) while Pharey s Langur (Trachypithecus phayrei) was least frequent (4%). Bangladesh makes an ideal case study for this question due to its geographical location and geo-morphological conditions. The nation`s susceptibility to floods, tropical cyclones, storm surges and droughts pose threats to health even without the added threat of climate change. To analyze health vulnerability methodologies, it is essential to critically examine the different assessment methodologies. This book ventures such an assessment, providing a framework on which to develop a health adaptation strategy. Based on a review of published research and the insights offered by stakeholders, this book presents the components of methodologies relevant to developing countries like Bangladesh. It concludes by identifying the need for climate change health vulnerability assessments and components of methodologies, particularly for developing countries, and points out the importance of assessment methodologies for developing health adaptation strategies. ····· 1036191967

The taxonomic composition showed better relationship in Ken and Paisuni, while patchy distribution in Tons. Only few taxa show clear-cut trend of longitudinal increase or decrease. The characteristic taxa varied at each station within the river and also among the rivers. Substratum was most important factor for variation in taxonomic composition at various station in the Ken and Tons, while current velocity in the Paisuni. The environmental variables differed at larger scale (river), landuse in the Ken, current velocity in the Paisuni and substratum in the Tons. In the Ken two type of food chains were evident in upper and lower part i.e.grazing and detritus type. However, only detritus food chain was dominant in Paisuni and Tons. ····· 1036191947

Everest of Nepal. I use the vigilance behavior of tahr to infer the status of their predator, the snow leopard, and confirm that snow leopards have returned to Mt. Everest following their disappearance some 40 years ago. I model how animals should select their habitats under predation-risk and partition time between competing fitness enhancing activities. In the former, I examine the consequence of animal s habitat selection under the threat of predation as an additional factor. In the later, I develop a game theory model, and suggest that group size effect on vigilance behavior is contingent upon the strength of interacting effects of many eyes, dilution and predator attraction effects. In examining ecological theories, I track how top predators may structure biological communities. Furthermore, I examine a few major ecological paradigms in light of biodiversity conservation. ····· 1036191765

During 2005-2009, the densities and biomass of game species were determined in order to assess the impact of subsistence hunting by Tikuna people in the Amacayacu National Park, Colombia. The results suggest that eight game species, which are highly important in the Tikuna diet, are overharvested with subsequent impacts on their long-term survival. This study highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach when designing management strategies of natural resources where protected areas and indigenous territories overlap. It also provides sustainable alternatives for the conservation of the overharvested species. Ultimately, the implementation of the proposed management strategy is only possible if local stakeholders are willing to take action. The plants of Parthenium were collected from dry tropical regions of India, during the rainy and winter season. Root, stem and leaf were separated from the plant and used for chemical analysis. Chlorophyll was estimated in fresh leaf, pH and EC were determined by crushing the fresh parts of the plants. Plant parts were dried and ground. Individuals that were studied on-exhibit and off-exhibit exhibited higher levels of stereotypic behaviour off-exhibit and higher levels of activity behaviour on-exhibit. The presence of visitors also had a detrimental influence on the behaviour repertoire of captive leopards. The utilisation of space differed between singly and group-housed leopards. Most of the leopards utilised the `edges` of their enclosure for stereotypic pacing. In enclosures that were structurally enriched with sleeping platforms, sheds or trees, leopards utilised the `enrich` zone of the enclosure for resting. Enclosures having logs and snags, the `enrich` zones is utilised to exhibit activity behaviour.
