Because observations take precedence over all our understanding, clearly, our theories must be at fault somehow. We revisit our understanding of the radiation problem at its most fundamental and basic level and demonstrate that indeed, we have misunderstood the matters at hand. We show that if we use the Azimuthally Symmetric Theory of Gravitation (ASTG), this problem is solved. This doctoral thesis reports analytical and numerical results for the electrostatic response of a dusty plasma to a moving test charge. Two important physical aspects of dusty plasmas, namely grain size distribution and grain charging dynamics were taken into account. It appears that the dynamical charging of the grains in a dusty plasma enhances the shielding of a test charge. To clarify the physics, a separate study is made where the charging is approximated by using a time delay. The resulting potential shows the delayed shielding effect explicitly. was observed that the grain charging dynamics leads to a spatial damping and a phase shift in the potential response. Finally, combining these two physical aspects, generalized results for the electrostatic potential were found incorporating the terms from both grain size distribution and grain charging dynamics. The generalized results contain the previous work where these two effects were studied separately and which can now be found as special limiting cases. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are one of the most interesting new materials discovered in recent years. Considerable theoretical and experimental efforts have already focused on predicting and measuring the properties of various classes of tubes. In this book, the electronic transport of CNT networks is studied by two techniques, scanning-tunnelling microscope (STM) and mechanically controllable break junction (MCBJ). The effect of contact potential on the conductivity of CNTs is investigated using different metallic substrates at ambient conditions by an STM method. The effect of electric field on electronic transport of CNT networks is investigated by MCBJ method. The conductance histograms of CNTs show that the features close to integer values of quantum conductance are independent of contact potential, electric field, and measurement technique. Hence, the electronic transport of CNTs is quantized and ballistic. The non-integer peaks are measured by the two methods in different ambient conditions. A possible explanation for these non-integer peaks is elastic scattering of the electrons at defects. These features are interpreted by series connection model. ····· 10361101361

This work studies propagation of different SH-SAWs treating various configurations using the cubic crystals Bi12SiO20 and Bi12GeO20, which possess strong piezoelectric effect. Possible cuts for the wave propagation are treated when an even-order symmetry axis of a crystal is perpendicular to the sagittal plane, and when some analytical solutions can be obtained studying propagation direction [101] in the crystals. Calculations of the phase velocity and the CEMC versus the layer thickness were carried out. Numerical results on propagation of the seven-partial Love type waves were also introduced for different electrical boundary conditions: metallized and non-metallized surfaces. Also, new dispersive SAW possessing single mode was discovered concerning direction [101] in various layered systems consisting of the cubic crystals. Shallow p-type junctions with high active dopant concentrations are needed. The F capability in helping the B confinement in Si is widely recognized, even if there is not a general consensus on the physical mechanisms acting. Different mechanisms have been proposed: a chemical bonding between F and B or a F interaction with point defects, through the formation of F-I (interstitial) or F-V (vacancy) complexes. This thesis investigates the F behaviour in pre-amorphized Si, opening a new route towards the F profile engineering. F is shown to strongly modify Is and Vs population, inducing an Is undersaturation or a Vs supersaturation. Such effect is transient, because strictly correlated to the transient presence of F in the Si samples. Our results allow a point defect engineering by means of F, ruling out the F-B chemical bonding as the responsible for B diffusion reduction by F, and suggesting the F-V bonding as the key mechanism governing the F behaviour in pre-amorphized Si and its capability in controlling the point defect population. ····· 10361101126

Lastly, we make use of the observed 511 keV annihilation flux line at the Milky Way center to constrain properties of sterile neutrinos of MeV mass scale. The use of the observational properties of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) to constrain the presence of different components in the universe, which perturb the background metric, is nowadays a well-established methodology in Cosmology. In this thesis the methodology is applied to three cases: primordial magnetic fields, a hypothetical electric charge asymmetry in the universe, and the inflaton field. The main part of the thesis deals with the problem of cosmic magnetic fields: assuming that they were formed in the early universe, we derive upper bounds on their intensity and analyse the imprint of a helical magnetic field on the CMB. We also study the effect of a global electric charge asymmetry, and deduce upper limits on the charge of some fundamental particles, partly improving the current ones from laboratory experiments.
