This thesis examines the implemenation of the new curriculum in Namibia with an emphasis on the new Junior Secondary Accounting Syllabus (JSAS) and its uptake by teachers. This was a small-scale study which sought to establish the meanings that teachers have constructed, that is how they make sense of the new JSAS both in their practice and in their pedagogical understandings. It hopes to add to the information about the importance of the teachers in the process of policy making and policy implementation. It also acknowledges the needs to take implementing agents`(teachers) sense-making into account in the process of educational change. This could help to bridge the gap between policy makers and policy implementers. The question is, can teachers simply understand and incoporate new ideas in their existing knowledge structures In fact, Could they actually implement what is required from them as stated in the the revised JSAS This thesis aimed to provide insight to these questions. ····· 10361147395

It is argued that the principal must adopt reflective practice that combines constant observation, study, implementation and continuous adaptation. His/her influence on the institution he/she leads will be determined largely by his/her awareness of his/her external situation and his/her role perception. Potential academic leaders come in many forms, with numerous styles. Some find their strength in eloquence, some in judgment and some in courage. As academics, we should expose the oncoming generation of educational leaders to the range of normative leadership styles and models that are conceived, crystallized and field-tested around the world. The choice, of course, must be left to each individual head as he/she strives to balance the demands on him/her and his/her resources. ····· 10361147303

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are seen as the major driving force of the future economies of countries around the world. While complexities of the society are enforcing the need for more education, ICTs are increasingly expanding the reach and range of educational institutions by making it possible to access any course from anywhere in the world and at anytime. They offer the possibility of drawing students from many countries who are studying the same course together at the same time. They also serve both, the `free market` (i.e. those markets where people are able and are prepared to pay the full cost of accessing services) and the `social market` (i.e. those in need of on-demand education and training and do not have the resources to access or pay for such services, but who for reasons of both social justice and long term national economic development, need basic education, upgrading or retraining). ····· 10361147300

This study investigates how variation theory can be used in designing multiple examples for elementary students to learn the mathematical concept altitude of a triangle. The study has three major findings. First, the discernment of the critical aspects should be the focus in example design. Second, patterns of variation and invariance according to variation theory provided a systematic effective method for determining the similarity or difference among examples. Third, students with different levels of prior knowledge perceived different aspects as critical for their learning, and thus benefited differently from the identical instruction. The study concludes that in order for students to develop a complete understanding of the knowledge, they should have an opportunity to separately discern all critical aspects before experiencing simultaneous variation of these aspects. In addition, instruction should be tailored to individual students critical aspects for learning. ····· 10361147224

The aim of this book is to evaluate and analyze the effectiveness of autonomy as a strategy to deliver quality service at LCE. In carrying out an analysis of autonomy strategy, Pearce / Robinson theoretical strategic decision-making process model is used. The situation analysis of LCE is carried out through the use of SWOT and macro and micro-environmental analysis. A quality service model by Zeithaml and Bitner is used to analyze quality service at the autonomous institution. The analysis carried out indicates that autonomy may be a suitable ad acceptable strategy to pursue in order to deliver quality service to students, but the effective implementation of the strategy needs both financial and dedicated human resources. As a result, autonomy strategy may be suitable and acceptable but not feasible as LEC lacks financial ad human resources necessary to fulfill the necessary requirements for implementing autonomy. ····· 10361147180

The Internet as a means of communication and interaction seems to have had a tremendous contribution to the economic, social, educational growth and other sectors of society in the world for the past two decades (Bon,2007). In a world with a global population of 6.767 billion people, Internet users alone are 1.733 billion with a growth rate of 380.3% between 2000 and 2009(Internet World Stats,2009). This growth rate shows the extent to which the Internet is being used. The various studies from the literature review reveal that the Internet has been used by lecturers and students to motivate, collaborate, facilitate and communicate with each other and this has led to improved teaching and learning (Cottrill,2005 Pritchard,2004 Egarievwe, et al.,2000 Meyer, Cronje & Eloff,2007). The findings of this study reveal that the usage of the Internet has helped lecturers & students to improve communication and interaction through sharing of ideas, opinions and thoughts using discussion forums, team work & live chat. ····· 10361146896
